Hi, I just registered. I’ve been reading LGF for a while. I like the mix of opinions. I’ll try not to embarrass myself, or y’all. I would describe myself as a tepid liberal: fiscally conservative, socially liberal. The lefty blogs are too extreme for me.

I might as well come right out and confess that if single-payer health insurance were on the table, I would support it. It appears to me, based on cold hard numbers, that such systems get better results at lower costs than our own. (Also, I was diagnosed with cancer this year after a routine colonoscopy, which means I could not get health insurance at any price if I were to lose my job, so yes, it’s personal.)

But it’s not going to happen. Too much insurance company money against it. It is what it is. But for those who think such a health insurance approach is socialism, I would point out that the Scandanavian countries have it, yet they compete quite well in the capitalist world: IKEA, Lego, Brio, Nokia, Erickson—those are just off the top of my head.

And now I’ll go back to lurking. :)
