The Door Opens

And again the registration door swings open and the Turnstiles of Lizardia turn, clicking and counting away the hatchlings as they enter.

If you decide to take that momentous step and register, it’s not a bad idea to read all the rules and commit them to memory. The short version:

  • Don’t register with a proxy.
  • Don’t register with a throwaway email address.
  • Don’t register more than one account at a time from the same Internet connection.
  • Don’t be a jerk.
  • Don’t be a troll.
  • Don’t be a sock puppet. Stinky Beaumont hates sock puppets. He will find you. You don’t want Stinky mad at you.
  • If you’re registering just to post a dramatic “goodbye cruel world” comment full of insults and drool, don’t waste your time. Nobody’s going to read it. It will be immediately deleted and your account will be blocked.
  • Do play nice.

And then everything will be groovy.

UPDATE at 11/11/09 6:54:59 pm:

As doors will, the door has closed.

THE SECRET BEHIND THE NUMBER 11

1) New York City has 11 letters
2) Afghanistan has 11 letters.
3) Ramsin Yuseb has 11 letters . (The terrorist who threatened to destroy the Twin Towers in 1993)
4) George W Bush has 11 letters.

This could be a mere coincidence, but this gets more interesting:
1) New York is the 11th state.
2) The first plane crashing against the Twin Towers was flight number 11.
3) Flight 11 was carrying 92 passengers. 9 + 2 = 11
4) Flight 77 which also hit Twin Towers , was carrying 65 passengers. 6+5 = 11
5) The tragedy was on September 11, or 9/11 as it is now known. 9 + 1+ 1 =11
6) The date is equal to the US emergency services telephone number 911.

9 + 1 + 1 = 11

Sheer coincidence. .?! Read on and make up your own mind:
1) The total number of victims inside all the hi-jacked planes was 254.

2 + 5 + 4 = 11.

2) September 11 is day number 254 of the calendar year.

Again 2 + 5 + 4 = 11..

3) The Madrid bombing took place on 3/11/2004. 3 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 4 = 11.
4) The tragedy of Madrid happened 911 days after the Twin Towers incident.

Now this is where things get totally eerie:

The most recognized symbol for the US , after the Stars & Stripes, is the Eagle. The following verse is taken from the Quran, the Islamic holy book:

'For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced: for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah and there was peace.'

That verse is number 9.11 of the Quran... Unconvinced about all of this Still ?!

Try this and see how you feel afterwards, it made my hair stand on end:

Open Microsoft Word and do the following:

1. Type in capitals Q33 NY. This is the flight number of the first plane to hit one of the Twin Towers ..
2. Highlight the Q33 NY.
3. Change the font size to 48.
4. Change the actual font to the WINGDINGS 1

What happened on Sept. 11, 2001 and at Fort Hood was NOT a tragedy, it was an ATROCITY. Stop defining atrocities as 'tragedies' and call out those that do. By doing so, we are letting these atrocities be watered down. Call them what they are. Stop being politcally correct, it will get us all killed!

Tragedy = someone accidentally runs over a child backing up
Atrocity = someone gets killed due to preconceived, planned actions.

I keep hearing this theory that political correctness is dangerous. I admit that my habit of referring to 'people of color', and 'people who are developmentally disabled', and "Ichthyo-Americans" is irritating as hell to many, but I don't think it's ever gotten anyone even slightly banged up.

Just for the hell of it, Arabic names are phonetically spelled in our alphabet which means that one spelling is as good as another (depending on accents). Ramsin Yuseb can be spelled a number of ways, most of which are 11 letters but Ramzi Youssef is also a valid version, but that can't be included since it has 12 letters.

There are many other valid and significant people, events, and places connected to 9/11, but of course only those can be construed to have something adding up to 11 may be listed. /

Hi, I just registered. I've been reading LGF for a while. I like the mix of opinions. I'll try not to embarrass myself, or y'all. I would describe myself as a tepid liberal: fiscally conservative, socially liberal. The lefty blogs are too extreme for me.

I might as well come right out and confess that if single-payer health insurance were on the table, I would support it. It appears to me, based on cold hard numbers, that such systems get better results at lower costs than our own. (Also, I was diagnosed with cancer this year after a routine colonoscopy, which means I could not get health insurance at any price if I were to lose my job, so yes, it's personal.)

But it's not going to happen. Too much insurance company money against it. It is what it is. But for those who think such a health insurance approach is socialism, I would point out that the Scandanavian countries have it, yet they compete quite well in the capitalist world: IKEA, Lego, Brio, Nokia, Erickson--those are just off the top of my head.

And now I'll go back to lurking. :)

Hi all,

I'm a newbie on LGF, finally hit the registration jackpot tonight.

I've been reading for about 6 weeks. I came over initially from John Cole's Balloon Juice site. I'll be up front and say that I'm likely further left than most here. But I like to think I'm respectful of other opinions and I'm really happy to find a "right-wing" site to learn and interact with others with different political views.

I appreciate that commenters here are not anti-evolution and anti-global warming. I'm hoping to talk with people who want to help bridge the divide between Americans and not just call each other libtards and rethuglicans. I appreciate conservative values, even if I may not always agree.

I will also say upfront that health care is a huge issue for my family. My hus was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and then was laid off from his job 8 months later (he'd been there 10 years). We both know that he was let go because his presence on their insurance rolls raised everyone's rates. I was a stay at home mom at the time, so we were pretty scared. I lost one possible job opportunity when I was dumb enough to ask about health insurance benefits after they offered me a position. Shortly after that, they rescinded their offer. I think tying health insurance directly to employment makes that kind of situation a lot more common than people might think. I also think it makes us less entrepreneurial. When you have to buy health insurance on the private market you have much less choice, much higher costs, and they won't even take you if you have a pre-existing condition.

But I try to see both sides in every debate and I don't try to force my pov on anyone. If I feel that it's best I'll just shut up. *smile*

My profession is web designer/developer and trainer, mostly working with Adobe tools and Microsoft asp.NET (don't throw tomatoes at me, please) I work at a Microsoft shop so PHP isn't really an option for me. I've done Networking using UNIX so I'm not a total Microsoft loser. LOL

Anyway, thanks for the opportunity to interact and get to know everyone here.

112 Obdicut  Wed, Nov 11, 2009 7:09:04pm

Oh, and for the record:

I'm a social liberal-- government shouldn't care about what consenting adults do with each other, or by themselves, except when it poses a real threat or cost to others.

Financially, I'm pragmatic. My dream bill would be one that mandated that all future bills had to come with a testing provision: if the bill is designed to save the marshlands, the bill needs to contain a mechanism to define success, make a plan for it, and then be judged on its achievement.

I support single-payer health care, or any of the double-mandate/catastrophic subsidy plans, but I do so from the pragmatic side. We are always going to pay for the uninsured, so the easiest way to deal with it, is to not have any uninsured.

I have a bit of a temper that I'll try my darnedest to keep under control. I have been reading the site for months now, and am impressed not only by Charles' moderation but the community's self-moderation.

I work as a designer of educational children's toys-- I adore children.

Here is a story that underlines why I feel it's so very, very important to treat children well. Warning: This story will make you furious, and break your heart, but hopefully fill it again with some warmth and love.

re: #104 JoyousMN

HI! Newbie! I live in Oregon and the state has a very quietly run, un- advertised insurance program for anyone who can't get insurance coverage. I think a $1,500 deductible policy costs about $500 per month, with certain things not covered like dental. I have a catasthrophic policy from State Farm (25yr), but it doesn't cover my large med costs. So I'm looking to transfer over to the state plan, run by Blue Cross. Go to an independent health insurance broker in MN and see if MN has a similar program.

Yeah, he's great. I've had the pleasure of getting to send some toys down to the family-- because of her experience, Dani will have developmental challenges her whole life, and our toys are perfect for both keeping her entertained and helping her communicate.

The Lierows are the hands-down most wonderful family I've 'met' -- only over the phone-- in many, many a year.

I also would like to point out the police detective who made the absolutely right decision to remove Dani, even though he technically probably didn't have the authority to.

Here's their website

And I would note there's a donation button there-- the Lierows are not rich by any means, so if you are looking for a personal charity, I think Dani deserves.

Thanks for the thought. We're OK right now. As long as you keep continuous coverage you can't get tossed into the private market where you can be denied for a pre-exisiting condition. We managed to keep up with our Cobra payments for six months, then went on MinnesotaCare (for low-income families) for two months, then I transfered to my current employer.

But the really crappy thing is that at our small company the only people on the insurance plan are the owner and her family and me and my family. To insure us 8 people is about $35,000 per year. I pay $700 per month, my company pays the other half. Every year for the past three years insurance costs have gone up 20%. So I pay out 10% and they pay the other 10%, which means pay raises have been non-existent.

Getting back to Veteran's Day... my father served in WW2, in Patton's army. He was part of that surge across France and Germany. He rarely talked about it. He had to be pretty lubricated when he did. We used to ask him, "What was the hardest thing you did in the war?" His answer: swimming across rivers at night. Specifically, the Saar. He saw his best friend killed by a mortar, but I only remember him talking about that once, and he was very drunk at the time. We owe a debt to those who came before.
