I can’t find it now, but studies have shown that your best employees will usually rate themselves the same as or slightly lower than you would, and your worst employees will always rate themselves higher.

It’s due to the ability of one person to properly evaluate his/her own abilities and talents and make adjustments (your better employees), and the lack of ability of others judge themselves accurately. This same ability (or lack thereof) to make appropriate judgments and distinctions is what leads one person to be a better employee than another.

/I rated myself higher than my boss did (avg. 1/2 point all the way).

I’m old and extremely experienced and successful at what I do, so I figured why would I rate myself below “almost” excellent if that is what their reason was in hiring me in the first place! Would never rate myself perfect..no such thing to me as being perfect (being human and all that). ;)
