I had a couple as tenants once. They were the most humorless people you could meet. One was surprised when she saw my library, and said, “I didn’t know anyone but grad students read that many books.” I stifled my comment about probable differences in the quality of our reading.

Huh. That’s weird— only because grad students do read a lot, but extremely narrowly— pretty much only in their field (while they’re actually working on their diss).

One of my profs in grad school said that the problem with grad students is that they read too much, write very little, and think even less. Pretty accurate, IMO.
