How many conversations have I been in where my interlocutor espoused something like: starve the government of tax revenue! Let us run our own lives! etc. etc.

Fine, as far as it goes. But who pays for the largest, most powerful military in world history, huh? Private enterprise?

Can’t have it both ways.

I’m not advocating starving the govt. of tax revenue, but until they break the people of their dependency on govt to provide sustinence as well as a living we will never fully recover. Of course we need to pay for defense as well as interstate highways and the like, but the social engineering programs enacted by FDR and LBJ need to be scaled down and eventually phased out altogether as they are ponzi schemes on a greater scale than Madoff ever dreamed of. Once we become self sufficient manufacturing and agriculturally we need to work at maintaining those levels and the welfare programs will be unneccessary.
