Uh, yes, theorhetically you’re correct. However, in the real world of politics, if the big bosses say vote, you vote. Those folks (Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader) decide who get’s what committee assignments, how big a staff, what kind of office, etc. etc. That’s why they are called “leaders” in Congress.
Some folks DID push back - privately and were slapped down by Pelosi (mostly). I wish you were right. I wish EVERY member of Congress would act in a free, normal, unfettered way, but ‘tis never been that way.
Put it another way - you finally have a job for two years, anyway. You’d kinda like to keep it for another or two or more years and then maybe try to move up to become a Senator. Pissing off your party’s leadership is not considered a “wise” political move.
