Fiscal conservatism emerges of necessity. Four more years of Carter would have steered the US (and therefor much of the world) into ruin.

I’m Canadian. I’ve seen first-hand how these policies play out “in the lab”. In the early 1990s the province of Ontario elected a left-wing premier very similar to Obama. Within his four year mandate he managed to reduce Ontario from an AAA bond rating to a diminished A (they don’t rate states or quasi states below A). In other words he single-handedly collapsed the economy. Almost 30 years later Ontario is starting to recover.

Here’s the lesson:

1. Building a viable economy takes decades.

2. An elected socialist can undo 20 years of progress in 6 weeks
