As a veteran and a manager who occasionally (but not lately) does hire..if I have 2 applicants both equal in the interview, one has a 4 year college degree and the other did 4 years in marines, navy, AF, Army..Good conduct discharge, made acceptable rank in the 4 years, lets say E-5..you know who gets the job…the former military..and I know alot of managers who are not even ex military who think this way…main reason..reliability and dependability and a degree of discipline.

Sure. I totally get that. But I’ve seen two people, each with bachelors in the same field, from two different institutions and the one with the degree from the “big name” school got the job. Not always, of course, but enough to make me raise my eyebrows. And yet I’ve talked to kids who have gone to Ivy League schools, and they were taught horribly. Some of my fellow grad students couldn’t do the work, even though that had math degrees from Ivy League schools.
