I was in college at the time. Our professor heard the verdict was getting announced that afternoon and cancelled our afternoon class.

I was TDY working on the Enterprise.. I remember it like yesterday..
That night we were on Park Street in Alameda and watched the cops just follow the crowd of kids.. They were walking 3 mph and a bunch of cop cars were following at 2mph.. It was surreal..
