Cinnamon is just part of the Baharat and other middle Eastern/Mediterranean blends.

Chocolate is the real secret ingredient in Cincinnati chili.

My ex hated it when I would put cinnamon and chocolate in when I made the chili.

Beans, corn, ground beef, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, a bit of catsup or vinegar, chili powder, cumin, paprika, chocolate, cinnamon. I did not go for high heat levels, I preferred a mellower flavor that warmed you not boiled you.
