Her husband was Bobbie Troup, one of the Doctors on that show. Emergency! was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. I wanted to be a Fireman or a Paramedic so bad.

Heh, my (then) 4-year-old daughter was MADLY in love with “Roy DeSoto”.

I knew about Troup. Back in the early 50’s, her career was sputtering. Troup was a bandleader, and took her under his wing. Her career went up like a skyrocket.

I hoped against hope that “Emergency” would have a New Years episode. Camera would follow Dixie McCall into the staff lounge, with the sound of a piano growing louder and louder. There would be Dr. Early at an old upright over in the corner. Nurse McCall would walk over, lean on the piano … then …
