I presume you’re speaking of the Bible? Not everyone uses the same edition/translation. I’m not a theologian to be able to explain all the contradictions that crop up in any religion. Just accept that they believe what they believe (as you yourself believe what you believe) and for another to understand how/why is difficult especially if you’re “outside” the religion. Most people remain with the religion they were born/taught into. Relatively few change for any length of time and those, I’ve found, still retain many of the fundamental concepts they were taught whilst practicing their new religion even if they are at odds with each other.
