Agreed to some points. The problem with all alternatives is cost, efficiency and space. Most alternate solutions require large foot prints.

costs are a factor of economics, so if enough people buy solar panels the costs will be more reasonable. Of course this wouldn’t be a practical method of electric generation in Canada, but in Israel where I live it would be great (actually most houses here have solar water heating panels, which are great). Regarding space, with solar, there is space on roofs, and where solar is most practical, ie desert, there is usually lots of place (again, not so relevant for Canada). Efficiency also will improve as costs come down.
All of these will take time, so a gradual transition is necessary.
