Many Black and Latino churches came out against it but who got the firestorm? The Mormons.

The Black and Latino churches didn’t pour money in from out of state to defeat it, though. That is what has hardened my heart against the Mormon Church in a way that I doubt will ever be softened.

There’s plenty of social conservatism of various stripes on the ‘left’. One more reason why ‘left’ and ‘right’ don’t mean that much.

For a long, long time, the only people talking about the human rights abuses in the middle east were on the ‘left’. It only became an issue for the ‘right’ after 9/11, for example. These things can shift in a very short period of time.
