I’m not sure I agree with you that paying these idiots off would somehow cheapen his act of heroism. I say, pay them off…. get him back safely - then open a major can of whup-ass…..

I sday thaat if they refuse to release him unconditionally, open up a major can of whup-ass NOW - so they, or others like them, will avoid a repetition of the act for fear of a repitition of its consequences.

Taking hostages should ENDANGER one’s safety, not ENSURE it. And it should NEVER be allowed to be a way to quick and easy wealth.
