It’s so interesting to see how many of us remember Chelsea being ripped apart. The impression that had on girls our age went so deep.
— Dahlia Adler (@MissDahlELama) July 29, 2016
For that moment, right there, she was a mom being proud of her daughter.
Let’s hope she knock it out of the park and into the stratoshphere and destroys the Sweet Meteor of Death.

Wingnuts, thanks for bringing to our attention that we needed some!!
Mrs. Clinton has always been an elegant woman. I dunno why I’ve always thought so, but even in my wingnut days when I hated the Clintons’ guts, she was always quietly elegant.

ok after all the sober answers…maybe it’s “yes, dear”
I have to say. I have so much respect for Clinton for how she put aside her disappointment with having lost in 2008 to working first for Obama’s election and then for him. This will be a friendship that will be written about in the years to come.

re: #32 The Vicious Babushka
You can call her Ma’am.
And I would if I ever met her. Although I had a family friend of mine recently take me to task because, in my excessive politeness, I referred to her as “Mrs. So-and-so” instead of by her first name.
This is history and a poignant, powerful tribute.

Trump? ME ME ME ME ME ME…
Perhaps my memory is flawed. However, coming out of Carters days, the thing about Reagan was his optimism, and the dire predictions of his worst critics.
Today feels the same but with the parties switched. The Democrats and their candidate are the party of optimism, hope and a sense of a greater America. They reject the right and the far left in the same breath. Trump just rejects all sense and sensibility.

Cool: completely missing the historic significance of a woman rising from modest means to the highest office in US: https://t.co/FZXD17DaNC
— lawhawk (@lawhawk) July 29, 2016
A lot of people think they’re being cute that they can say that they too have parents of modest means and cut Hillary down. Right wing women too.
They don’t get it. This is more than just Hillary giving her recitation of her cv. This is letting girls know that they too can grow up from Peoria to Prudhoe Bay, and be on the doorstop of being President of the US.
That’s something that until now no other woman had even been close to doing. Others have run, but no one got more than a handful of delegates. Third party runs and minor party candidates have tried, but gotten little more than an asterisk in national elections.
In just about 100 days, Hillary Clinton can receive word that she has won the popular vote and the Electoral College vote, making her Madame President Elect.
That’s huge.
And she’ll be the first - and definitely not the last.

Your friends are wrong. Just the description of the three-pitch strikeout the young Hobbs lays on a major-league slugger in a sandlot while their train is stopped is the best description of great pitching I’ve ever seen.

No, your memory isn’t flawed. Reagan’s vision was one of optimism. Even as he was tacking to the right, he was saying that America’s best days are ahead, not behind.
Trump thinks we’re fucked. And only he can save us.
Trump and I have very different ideas of this us of which you speak. Our us, that is to say you and I, and present company happen to believe in one far larger number of people than his “us”.

That’s true. I do have to say, I just don’t know how anyone can watch this and Trump and still be undecided or think they’re both just as bad.

I can’t put all the feelings I have into words right now.
Tonight clarified some things really, really well.
I live in a conservative state. My family is conservative. Some of my closest friends at work are conservative. Hell, I USED to be conservative.
I thought Obama was going to wreck us all.
I thought Hillary was evil.
And now, I am going to have to secretly vote for her, and lie about it to everyone I know, because the wars that start won’t be worth it. (Yes, this is cowardice, but I have reasons.)
I wish early ballots were available now because after that speech, seeing the Real Hillary for the first time, I agree with Bill’s story that “They elected the wrong Clinton”.
re: #373 HappyWarrior
By the way whatever disagreements you and I have had on the gun issue, I truly appreciate that you’re willing to look at the big picture on this issue. I think a lot of gun owners could learn from your example, you listen dude.
Thank you. In many ways we do agree. HRC wants to build on points of agreement, like us in our kindly corner here. Donald just wants a fight built on lies and fear and anger. Bereft of decency or hope. There is a phrase family will use for someone in the family who really turns bad. Maybe a killer or a rapist. They will say he is dead to them. I won’t say that about Donald as it sounds vaguely threatening. But he is just as out of bounds, out of what I can countenance or even consider.

re: #502 kirkspencer
Sorry for the confusion, I was actually listening to the speech, I don’t think your point counters mine. Obama is absolutely the President of all people, and he had to learn to do for them even against what they perceived to be their best interests. Hillary will be better for the Busters (the people protesting all the wrong things at the wrong time), I was saying she could not worry about navigating to scoop up that fringe. It didnt seem to me that Brian was saying anything fundamentally different than ‘Haters gon hate, you do you’. That doesn’t make her any less of a nurturer, right?

She ran over DT’s sorry behind, and then backed up the pain train to run over him again, and again. She’s had a lifetime of dealing with shitheads like him and whether she worked up the zingers and the bait-and-meme strategy herself, or if she had help… She absolutely crushed him.
Anybody who doesn’t see that is lying to themselves.

Thank you. “It is what it is” gets on my last nerve, as majii here likes to say. I always want to reply, if politeness didn’t get in the way, “Of course it is what it is. But what the fuck is it that it is?”

They always see what they want to see. Just like the NC GOP saw Tim Kaine wearing a Honduras flag pin and just like Ann Coulter thought a UAE accent was the same as an indian subcontinent one and had the “wit” to insult a father who lost his son in combat.

Thanks, SteelPH, for the updings on my dad jokes.
You know me. Always a dull moment.
I’m a woman, I don’t like political conventions, I hate speechifying, but I watched Hillary’s speech, all of it. And I thought she did a great job and hit all the right notes.
I saw what Garry Kasparov said in the tweet above, and it’s like, “but she’s not running against Putin, she’s running against Trump. Plus this is something she or her surrogates will deal with.”
I pulled out my plastic and gave money to the Clinton campaign, then checked to see how much money I can give to the campaign directly, and am thinking of raiding my savings. Because the short-fingered vulgarian CANNOT become president.

They’re shiny.

I don’t own an American flag pin. I own a DD214.

I signed in to FB tonight to drop a comment about how thrilled I was about convention week. My youngest sister was a Bernie person who didn’t think Hillary being the first female candidate was anything for her or her 10 year old daughter to find even remotely interesting. I’m not sure how over it she is yet, but I don’t feel like talking to a debbie downer right now.

I don’t blame you. My brother was in the same boat. I do want to make the point to him that this does mean something for his daughter. I really think he’s someone who could benefit from seeign waht Clinton’s actually done. He hasn’t had time for the convention due to his job hours.
