That's because these are weakling factory raised turkeys. Wild Turkeys can be quite aggressive. They also taste much better, or so I'm told. I'd like to buy a cleaned and dressed wild turkey and then see what my mother could be with it. That would probably be a true feast (my mother is a great cook).

We boggies are a hair folk
Who like to eat until we choke
Loving all like friend and brother
And hardly ever eat each other
Sing Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble
Boggies gather round the table
Eat as much as you are able
Gorge yourself from noon to moon
And don't forget your plate and spoon
Sing Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble
Anything edible, we've got dibs on
And we hope we die with our bibs on
Ever gay, we'll never grow up
Come, and sing and dance and throw up
Sing Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble
(All the useless trash I remember, like this)

Meanwhile on the other side of the animal kingdom:
Sea lion mates himself to death
A randy sea lion named Mike died of exhaustion after a marathon mating session at a zoo.
The whiskery beast had been enjoying a morning romp with his harem Farah, Tiffy and Soda when keepers noticed something was wrong.
The dad of 12 was so exhausted that he could not even get out of his pool - and had to be pulled clear by staff.
Despite receiving treatment from a vet, the 45-stone "good natured" sea lion died from acute heart failure.
ExhaustingA spokesman for Nuremberg animal park in Germany said on Tuesday: "Mating season is a common time for fatalities when bulls often stop eating for days to devote themselves fully to mating.
"For sea lion bulls with a harem this is the most exhausting time."
California-born Mike was 19 - two years older than the average life expectancy.
The spokesman added: "He will be remembered fondly."

WA State doesn't allow for that, so lots of active duty military members here let the coverage lapse when deployed.

Good but sad find, it just goes to show you where this administration is coming from.
It explains this story.
Obama fails to name anti-Semitism envoy
The Obama administration has failed to name an envoy for monitoring and combating anti-Semitism around the world as mandated by US law since the previous ambassador was relieved of his duties at the start of the president's term more than six months ago, officials said Thursday.
The failure to name a new envoy for the post raises questions about the importance the new administration attaches to the fight against anti-Semitism, said Rafael Medoff, director of the Washington DC-based David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies.
"Foot-dragging on the selection sends a message that anti-Semitism is not of great importance to the United States," Medoff wrote in a monograph to be published by the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs titled "The Politics of the American Response to Global Anti-Semitism."
According to Medoff, "At a time when anti-Semitism remains a staple of government propaganda in the Middle East, when violent anti-Semitic incidents are reported almost daily throughout Europe, and when even the streets of Washington are not untouched by anti-Semitism's violent potential, that is the wrong message to send."
The State Department's Office of the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism, which was established by a Congressional initiative in 2004, advocates American policy on anti-Semitism both in the US and internationally.

Powerline:
The state department's wishful thinking about Jerusalem
A friend called to my attention the home page of the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem, which is devoid of any material pertaining to Jews or Israelis. Every item visible on the page is about Palestinians.
A fair reflection, I think, of where this administration's sympathies lie and how it sees Jerusalem.
I had to visit the U.S. consulate to register the birth of my two oldest children in Jerusalem, over 30 years ago. I had to run a gauntlet of mean and ugly looking Arabs just to get into the building. They confiscated my kids' Israeli birth certificates (I remembered to make a photocopy of my daughter's BC) and issued State Department BC's that listed my kids' place of birth as Jerusalem, Jerusalem, no country.
I also remember they were very abusive to an elderly woman, a Holocaust survivor, who could barely speak English, who was not receiving her Social Security checks. I translated for her.

Here's how to turn a conservative red state into fans of Korean cars.
link.
Or, how to turn a Korean car company into a fan of a conservative red state or in this case West Point, Georgia. Demographics:
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,382 people, 1,354 households, and 931 families residing in the city. The population density was 764.3 people per square mile. There were 1,515 housing units at an average density of 342.4/sq mi. The racial makeup of the city was 40.60% White, 57.84% African American, 0.03% Native American, 0.89% Asian, 0.15% from other races, and 0.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.62% of the population.
And South Korea's religious demographics:
Currently,Christianity is South Korea's largest religion, accounting for more than half of all South Korea adherants. There are approximately 15 million Christians in South Korea today, with 2/3 of Christians belonging to the Protestant group, while about 15% belong to the Catholic group. The largest Christian church in South Korea, Yoido Full Gospel Church, is located in Seoul. Roman Catholicism has been the fastest growing religion in South Korea since the late 1980s. South Korea is also the second-largest missionary-sending nation.

Okay, guys, I know it's August - almost - but I sat down and read Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" the other night. At first, I read it literally, but then kind of picked up on the metaphor a wee bit. Dickens was using this story to make a broader point, I think.
There was the ghost of Christmas past, the ghost of Christmas present, and the ghost of Christmases yet to come. Scrooge needed to see what he'd forgotten - the ghost of Christmas past; he needed to see what was happening to him now - the ghost of Christmas present; and he needed to see what would happen if he didn't change - the ghost of Christmases to come.
Pretty much works as a metaphor for what is happening now. We know where we've been, we know where we are, but - dammit - we don't seem willing to listen to the ghost of Christmases yet to come, and to do what we need to do to change the future.
Dickens is on every library shelf because he was brilliant. And still, today, remains so.
Is there a conservative leader out there who has read the story and understands what Dickens was saying?

I would disagree that "we know where we've been." That was why the Ghost of Christmas Past was needed: Ebenezer Scrooge needed the reminder, because he had forgotten how he got to his current state of affairs.
As for what Dickens was saying, watch the 1999 version with Patrick Stewart. Scrooge's miserly ways caught up to him, and drove him insane. Not dangerously so, but still, Scrooge snapped. It's clear in the novel, but most movie adaptations quietly shift it so that Scrooge experiences a mere "change of heart".

It was a midday of things we could accomplish; it was a late afternoon of beers with Joe. It was, in short, a really crappy-assed week, made more painful by an e-mails from Gibbs. In Illinois [the convoy] started on dirt roads, and practically no more pavement was encountered until reaching California. ...two days were lost in western part of this state [Nebraska] due to bad, sandy roads. From Orr's Ranch, Utah to Carson City, Nevada, the road is one succession of dust, ruts, pits, and holes. This stretch was not improved in any way, and consisted only of a track across the desert. At many points on the road, water is twenty miles distant, and parts of the road are ninety miles from the nearest railroad.
That officer's name? Lt. Col. Dwight D Eisenhower. His experiences in 1919 factored heavily into his decision-making nearly 40 years later regarding the interstate highway system (although Ike was also impressed with Germany's autobahn as well).
The Military Vehicle Preservation Association put together a convoy of their own to mark the 90th anniversary of that first convoy.

This is worse then BillyJeff and JimmyBob combined as far as Defense is concerned.
They know damn good and well that the current fleet of jet fighters is beyond its wear date and aging rapidly under wartime stresses. They already killed the F-22. Now the front page mantra from the Washington Post, (really - front page of the 7/30/09 dead trees edition), is that any F-18's in the defense budget are "extra" or "pork." Apparently we'll never need jet fighters again...
Also scheduled to be canceled, according to that WashPoo article are any C-17's, dozens of new ships for the Navy, helicopters, and armored vehicles. All listed as..."extra" like they're somehow suddenly surplus and the old ones never wear out, or crash, or get destroyed in combat.
So is the Kinetic Interceptor program of Ballistic Missile Defense. Canceling that one "saved" us a whole $80 million next year according to the WashPoo's experts. How much money did we give to the genocidal Palestinians again?
And yet again the WashPoo flat out lied on its front page, claiming that the KEI program was "technically troubled," "behind schedule," and "billions of dollars over-budget."

It was not "technically troubled" as the above links clearly show. If was that bad John Pike and his anti-war minions at GlobalSecurity would have been all over it.
It was not "behind schedule" as it had met each and every one of its assigned test dates. Furthermore it's developmental schedule was set, in stone, by congressional funding. It was not required to be ready in time for the Christmas video game rush. The planned deployment date was somewhere around 2015.
It was not "over-budget" because it's funding had already been reduced in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
What are those 30,000 new troops supposed to use again, harsh language?

Render ... could not sleep and saw your post .. some of my friends work in Tullahoma, Tn and test engines at Arnolds Air Force base and after the killing of the 22s they are set to lose over 200 jobs ... it has not been posted yet but it is going to happen ... I wonder where this will end with him ... at what point ... I am not speaking to only the jobs lost but what about our defense? .. I just really do not get where he is going ...

Hmmm... curiosity makes me want to ask why his post was deleted... but, oh well, on to more important news...
Did anyone notice the story going around that Ms. Taitz, in her lawsuit, claims that Barrack Obama has used 39 different SSNs?
She is truly getting desperate at this point.

If these were geese, they would attack and kill that guy.
Now you know the real reason turkey meat is more widely available than goose meat.
