The Texas Tech Red Faders Raiders open next week against other than the North Dakota Fighting Sioux, fresh up from Division II and apparently willing to jump in at the deep end.
Tech should win handily but consistency is not their chief virtue. Last season was the best in Tech history in most respects, with 11 wins, but it included the epic 65-21 meltdown at Oklahoma. Among other dubious records, this was the highest score allowed in Tech history (and it could easily have been 72), and the worst loss ever suffered by a top 10 team. It was followed by a less lop-sided but still embarrassing loss to Mississippi in the Cotton Bowl.

TTU V UT...was a fantastic game...TTU took the run & shoot to new levels.
Probably the best game in Tech history. I thought the defense was a little weak all year, though, and the Raiders would be in big trouble if anyone could slow down their scoring machine. This was born out late in the season and at the Cotton Bowl.

That's sort of disturbing.
So why did I bookmark it ?
Wasn't that from that TV series ... what was it's name again ?
Ah, 'Ally McBeal'.

re: #139 Fenway_Nation
I saw some ESPN columnist put up a 'bottom 10' in college football column that included Western Kentucky, Washington, Louisiana-Monroe, Tennessee, Alabama-Birmingham, New Mexico State, Tulane...and a couple of others. Probably would've been more memorable if the whole write-up wasn't peppered with contrived Micheal Jackson references.
Surprisingly, Army, Washington State and Rice were 'on the bubble'...
My old team, the North Texas Eagles, is a perrenial favorite for the bottom 10. Since it is a big school, it is in Texas, and it is near Dallas, UNT has historically sought to establish itself as a major football power as well, with scant success. There have been a few flashes of brilliance over the years but they are always "on the cusp" or "just a few years away."

Not a Wildcat fan, eh?
Mom is an alumna, '49, and has had seasons tickets since then. I was dragged to Northwestern games as a child, which led me to choose to go somewhere where they tended to have winning seasons.

Weren't they the "Mean Green"?
Eagles is the traditional name and they still use a stylized eagle emblem. "Mean Green" was used unofficially from the 60s onward and was made official a few years ago. I had a hard time accepting it, just as I had a hard time accepting the change from "North Texas State" to "University of North Texas." The campus radio station is still KNTS rather than...

"The blaze was only about 5 percent contained and had scorched 55 square miles in the Angeles National Forest. Mandatory evacuations were in effect for neighborhoods in Glendale, Pasadena and other cities and towns north of Los Angeles. Officials said air quality in parts of the foothills bordered on hazardous.
At least three homes deep in the Angeles National Forest were confirmed destroyed, but firefighters were likely to find others, Dietrich said.
Firefighters hoped to keep the blaze from spreading up Mount Wilson, where many of the region's broadcast and communications antennas and a historic observatory are located. Flames were within two miles of the towers Sunday, fire officials said."

This from CNN:
"The polls indicate the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) may have won a 3-to-1 victory over the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
This from the NY Times:
"TOKYO — In a rare display of democratic muscle in this traditionally apolitical nation, Japan’s voters cast out the Liberal Democratic Party for only the second time in postwar history, handing a landslide victory to the opposition in hard-fought elections on Sunday."
Your claim that they "they voted IN liberals, throwing out the ruling conservatives" is absurd. You are not, apparently, familiar with Japan at all.

re: #26 JamesTKirk
The most likely scenario is that Japan starts ratcheting it up against North Korea, who is only 600 miles away and a danger to them, first. North Korea shooting a missile over Japan as it did first in 1998 changed the culture there and they began cooperating with the US to build the missile defense shield along the Sea of Japan, which is now up and running. I bet that another "test" by North Korea will result in a response from Japan, although God knows what.

(did see him guest with Martha Wainwright on the main stage)
