I was in Syracuse this weekend bringing my son up for his sophomore year. I visited the memorial for the 35 Syracuse students murdered by the libyans in the Pan Am 103 terror attack over Lockerbie. I paid my respects and silently said that there are still Americans who remember them and I said I was sorry that the feckless leaders in scotland and the UK allowed their killer to be released for some filthy oil contracts. G-d rest their souls.

I found a plug just in time for the tech thread! 2 hours to go and I have but nothing to offer to the conversation.
I do wonder, in the bar to my right, what is an “Electri Bill”?

Running Snow Leopard here on Macbook Pro, seems to work fine except for an SMTP config glitch which I found a solution on the ‘net for.

And noticeably snappier too, it seems.

Right now I am watching a French father try to chase ~2 year old twin girls going in totally different directions while the mom is at customer service looking back occasionally with that look that transcends language barriers!

I had to see it.

Today at American Thinker: an article by James Lewis comparing Barack Obama to the first head of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Lenin. I guess they’ve run through most of the other historical monsters; maybe Attila the Hun will be next?
James Lewis is the same writer who defended the Belgian fascist party Vlaams Belang, and said I’d been “taken in” by covert leftist Belgian operatives.

AW - I was just wondering where everyone was.
Satt is talking to himself, and I didn’t want to interrupt.
This thread was put up an hour ago, and there’s 18 comments?
Weird.
It’s like everybody disappeared into thin air.

but I am going somewhere for work, so it’s not really that great of a trade. I am trying to decide if I should get a latte before the flight - I’ve got 5 hours on the plane and then get my car and then get to my hotel.

Why is getting a latte before the flight such a big question you have to sit there and decide about it?

Trouble is, we Americans aren’t credible when we criticize Scotland for this type of behavior. We have quite a history of ignoring our own principles when it comes to oil, i.e., we are pretty cozy with the Saudis, the same Saudis who allow the radical religious schools to flourish which in turn encourages and inspires the types of people who brought us 9-11.

The truth? I am kind of phobic about public bathrooms, and I’m concerned I’ll have an overwhelming need to pee and I’ll be in the worst kind of public bathroom - on a plane, where it is smelly. There you have it.

Know how you feel. Wednesday I was stuck for 2 hours at the airport while the mechanics tried to fix the plane I had just come in on and was to only be a 20 minute layover before continuing on to destination. The only way to get a snack or coffee would have been to go back out the “secured” area and back through inspection. So I just stayed put.

If you run a dual monitor system you’ll find the brightness control showing up for each monitor under the displays system preferences. That’s something that’s been missing for a while—not that it was desperately needed. But it does illustrate the added refinements to the OS.

re: #13 Charles
Charles -
For Pres. Obama to be Lenin:
1. He would have to come up with a “New Economic Plan (NEP)” a/k/a “Try Capitalism.”
2. Neither Axelrod, nor Emmanuel have the smarts of Trotsky.
Pres. Obama as Lenin - NEVER HAPPEN.
As for Snow Leopard - AND/OR - Windows 7 - both are somewhere between being Service Packs for Leopard or Vista respectively or totally new OS’s in their own right. Both seem to be usable improvements, making better, more efficient use of ever better hardware. I look forward to both, its like having Ford re-do the F-150 and Chevy the Silverado in the same model year.

The other night I went through an old stack of magazines. Came across one called ST-Log (April 1989).
Thumbed through it, and what leapt out at me? Font ID Editor, by West Coast Editor Charles F. Johnson.
I couldn’t understand most of the article even back when I got the magazine. I guess Atari users did a lot more programming than do computer users today. I never got that far—I just wanted a cheap computer that did more than 40 characters across for word processing which is what my 8-bit atari did.
I don’t know if it was this group of magazines: ST-Log and Analog, or the other one, that was eventually bought out by Larry Flynt, only to die a sad death the way all the alternative computer systems did: Amiga, ST and others.
Thank goodness Mac survived and is now affordable, at least to some degree.
