I have no problem with it at all, people confused by it are probably easily confused in general and there's no fixing that. I'm never going to use it myself but others really seem to enjoy being able to change their names so I say leave it. A unique constraint and a reveal of the true account ID on avatar mouse-over would fix the few legit issues I've heard voiced so far.

Nothing a hover can't solve.
Also, letting turn this feature off will partially defeat its purpose - letting people be known under the names they want (and I don't mean "abusers" like myself). It could also get more confusing, as in replies the display name will be quoted anyway.

Frankly, it's irritating to hover over every damned comment in order to see who is saying what. I'm here for intelligent commentary much more than name-based jokes.
If people are really grumpy about being known by things other than their original name, some sort of maximum change frequency would seem like a reasonable compromise.

Michael Graham.
He's an American Conservative Columnist. Here's a Wikipedia article on him.
Graham was born in Los Angeles, California and raised in South Carolina. A graduate of Oral Roberts University, he worked as a stand-up comedian before beginning his political career as the primary election coordinator for South Carolina[1] for Pat Buchanan's Presidential campaign in 1992. This experience led to his working in various Republican campaigns over the next few years. One of his candidates included Harold Worley, a Republican challenger to Senator Strom Thurmond in 1996.

Frankly, it's irritating to hover over every damned comment in order to see who is saying what. I'm here for intelligent commentary much more than name-based jokes.
If people are really grumpy about being known by things other than their original name, some sort of maximum change frequency would seem like a reasonable compromise.
If the commentary is intelligent, it doesn't really matter who it comes from ;)

It will be received badly, though. Americans typically flip Europeans the bird when they attempt to "save us from ourselves". In large part because such "saving" is most often furnished with a large dollop of Anti-Americanism.

Yeah there wasn't anything anti American at all about what he said. Quite the contrary actually. He doesn't like the bullshit the teabaggers and fearmongers pull and frankly I don't blame the guy. I'm sick of the shit. Sick of them whining and getting elected complaining about big government and what do these guys do when they get elected. Oh use the government to push their social agenda. The Obama administration issued procedures late Tuesday on their interpretation of the provisions of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which required some terrorism suspects to be held in military custody. In short, the guidelines make it nearly impossible for a terrorism suspect to end up in the hands of the military.

Wiki-- "During a debate on the Irish radio channel Newstalk on 28 May 2010, the future President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, accused Graham of indulging in "the radio of hysterical ignorance" and urged him to "be proud to be a decent American rather than being just a wanker whipping up fear."

So, uh, what happens if a Capital City ends up heavily flooded?
Washington D.C. is a very safe Capital, in the right position to avoid Earthquakes and the worst of Hurricanes (The Storm Surge). So, it doesn't get damaged that often.

If you're not comfortable with it, how would you make it better? Put a time limit on display name changes, for example?

Oh aren't you snarky. :P
Actually, I looked up in the past week the new protections New Orleans will have.
Along with improved levees in the city, and floodgates on the canals that go to Lake Pontchartrain, they are building a 1.8 Mile Long, 42 foot high dike off to the east of the city.
If something can overtop/break through that, we got much bigger problems. I think Katrina may have been the last one.

“Governor Romney supports the Blunt Bill because he believes in a conscience exemption in health care for religious institutions and people of faith,” Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul told TPM.
I think it's rather straightforward politics. To secure the nomination Romney needs the religious right (even if Santorum takes the majority of them.) Then, to have ground troops for the general election the GOP will need to call upon SoCons like usual.

On the one hand I suspect the stalkers are going bonkers (more so), on the other it adds a bit of variety and potential for making short statements.
If someone wants to change daily, I don't think putting a time limit changes anything of substance, but I do wonder a little what new posters, or infrequent ones, will think. It might make it harder to get comfortable here.

So in otherwords "French." I still remember the Freedom Fries bullshit. Even if you supported the Iraq War, that was still pathetic as was the anti French attitude that happened in this country because of their opposition. I mean, I think Americans are way too sensitive to criticism. Can't speak for other countries since I've lived in the US my whole life and I am sure other countries are the same way but just seems to me we take criticism of policy way too personally.

Of course, New York City will be much harder to protect for. Even the optimum scenario for building anti-storm surge flood protections for the city concede much of Southern Brooklyn and Southern Queens to the Storm Surge, and some of the Eastern Portions of Staten Island. A proposed system for the city I saw from Jeff Masters protected Newark, Manhatten, Bronx, the Northern Portions of Queens and Brooklyn, and Western Staten Island.
As it stands right now, we were real lucky last year. Irene has the path but not the strength of the 1821 Hurricane that threw 20+ feet of water in Manhattan, flooding up to Canal Street. We narrowly dodged a bullet with Irene. A Category 2 on NYC is predicted to cause $58 billion in damage to the Mass Transit Systems alone.
I don't think most people know how lucky we were last year.

only one confusing aspect: although it changes retroactively in one's own posts, it does not change when other quote or make references to your posts. How about limiting it to one name change per thread/day?
