Today’s ride: 54 miles, down to Palos Verdes and up a rather difficult climb through a peaceful residential area somewhere near the PV Country Club, keeping the pace at the upper end of aerobic, verging on anaerobic on some of the steepest sections, making it hurt. Then doubled back up the coast to Santa Monica, speaking truth to an imperialist headwind but keeping the pace high. It’s a great feeling when you finish that kind of ride; you’re drained, but with a sense of accomplishment, legs hurting but it’s a
good kind of pain. Yesterday I did almost the same ride, minus the Santa Monica part, at a somewhat less gnarly pace, ending up with 42 miles—so the grand total for this weekend was an endurance-building 96 miles.
