New York Times Belatedly Credits LGF

Thu, Jul 10, 2008 at 7:42:48 pm PDT

They finally got around to it—but only after I redirected any hits from their page claiming credit to my post calling them out on it: In Image of Iran’s Power, There’s Less Than Meets the Eye.

Little Green Footballs, a conservative blog, identified the altered image on Wednesday. Last year the blog pointed out a manipulated image that had been distributed by Iran’s semiofficial Fars News Agency. As in the case of Wednesday’s photograph and many others that the site has uncovered, the one from 2007 appeared to contain several cloned elements.

Of course, they feel it’s necessary to label LGF a “conservative blog,” even though it has no bearing on the story.

Their original article claiming credit has not been updated.

UPDATE at 7/10/08 8:08:56 pm:

The Washington Post’s original article has disappeared, but there’s a new article by Al Kamen: Iran Apparently in Possession of Photoshop.

Noted debunker Charles Johnson apparently spotted the photo doctoring Wednesday and posted it on his Web site, LittleGreenFootballs.com.

It has never mattered to me that thirty million people might think I'm wrong. The number of people who thought Hitler was right did not make him right... Why do you necessarily have to be wrong jus because a few million people think you are? -- Why they don't play my stuff on the radio
