Olbermann: The Worst Person on Television

Politics | Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 8:36:14 am PDT

Have you watched Keith Olbermann’s show for MSNBC lately? Last night I checked it out for the first time in a long time, and was actually amazed at how nasty it has become. (I thought Olbermann had reached the nadir of nastiness long ago, but I was wrong.) What kind of person enjoys this sort of ugly ranting and dishonest distortion?

Noel Sheppard points out that the ugliness is coming straight from ... where else? Olbermann Uses False Information From Daily Kos To Smear Palin.

Olbermann jumped the shark ... Unwatchable t.v.

Shocking revelation. My word.

I quit watching 'the soup' because olberdunce was on there so often.
Won't watch the nbc nfl pregame show because he is on there.

I will not watch him nor give him the ratings. It is shameless that he is employed on a Cable News network.

Olberdouche gets his info from his fellow douchebags on Kos. Film at 11.

8 Crusader Rabbit  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 8:40:05am

Using Kos without fact-checking makes Olbermann not a journalist but a gossip-columnist.

I bet the distinction is lost on him.

LOL! My husband and I don't watch the pregame either. Although I never understood what Olberman was doing there anyway. He sucks the air out of any discussion they have.

Ugly is putting it mildly. Between he and Chris Matthews, I swear the camera guy must have to wipe off a ton of spit every night because they're so venomous. Their hatred has risen to a nice boil.

My Father loves Olbermann... His face gets all red as he nods with him in raging agreement. It's disgusting.

Can't wait to visit the parents for sauce this weekend! Woot!

18 Opinionated  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 8:42:48am

I have tuned to his show a few times. Literally. After just a few minutes I have to tune away. It's physically impossible for me to listen to the crap he secretes. It's like being in the presence of an odor you can just not tolerate.

24 WriterMom  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 8:43:54am

Trig Palin is not only a gift from G-d to the Palin family but he has an additional purpose which is to be the vehicle for exposing the hatred of these vile, repulsive leftists and their loathing of disabled babies, children and adults. They cannot contain their hatred, it explodes from within them and smears of this sort-based on heinous lies just show the absolute moral bankruptcy of the left and the liberal elites. Trig is a messenger-what a privilege he has-how blessed the Palin family is to have him-and us by extension.

25 wiffersnapper  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 8:44:15am

LOLbermann should be banned due to the 8th Amendment.

26 Intrepid  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 8:44:24am

His ratings are among the lowest of the three major cable networks' shows, with only Matthews and one other show (which I can't remember) getting lower ratings. Even that Maddows harpy gets better ratings than KO does, and she just started her show!

It's got to just eat him alive that the top four rated shows are on Fox, including O'Reilly, Hannity and Colmes, Greta Van Susteren and Brit Hume, in that order.

He is so personally and professionally invested in Obama becoming the next president that I believe strongly that he will have a breakdown when McCain/Palin wins it.

People who are every bit as unbalanced and unhinged as Olbermann is. There's a lot of unfounded rage brewing out there, and this guy feeds that niche. Same with Kos. The appeal is to the disaffected members of our society. Alas, I'm afraid I'm stating the obvious, here.

This election cycle has become truly frightening. Email hacking, Spanish language ads that misquote Rush Limbaugh, voter fraud (again) in Michigan by ACORN thugs, Hollyweird celebrities doing the ugly for their candidate Obama like I've never seen before, the MSM in the tank for Obama to the point of lunacy! To top it all idiots like Olberman and Chris Matthews spouting their hate-filled rants 24/7. I keep thinking of that nutcase Tim Robbins and his "chill wind" speech from a few years ago. There's a chill wind allright and it's coming from the left! I'm beginning to wonder if they won't get away with outright stealing this election this time. Lord knows they tried in 2000 and 2004 but it seems like it just gets worse with each new election and just when you think they cannot put forward a worse candidate they manage somehow to find one more horrible than the last. I'm trying to be optomistic but honestly I've never been more frightened for my country than I have over the last few months.

I did catch him on a rant last week. His eyes were spinning in his head & he was frothing.
He was screeching about McCain saying, "I will follow Bin Laden to the Gates of Hell"
Kieth extrapolated from that McCain knows where Osama is & won't tell the Pentagon. Stay with me, he then went on to label McCain a worse traitor than Benedict Arnold!
He needs a nice quiet place where he can feed the ducks for the rest of his days

If obama loses this election, I fully expect keith to have an on air meltdown that will probably scuttle his TV career. He is that deranged.

96 JHW  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 9:32:12am

I pretty much had the same experience Charles did, first time in years I watched this goon this week, disgusting the slime he puts out on anyone he's against. The whole culture of television, media, film and politics has degenerated so much in the last few years it's like wading in a sewer listening to this garbage and the nastiness has seemed to spread through the whole culture, politeness and honorable disagreement seem to be lost virtues. Anyone who doubts the MSM, MSNBC in particular, isn't completely in the tank for the Dems only has to watch a few hours of their no-holds-barred sliming. There are those who don't seem to mind turning public discourse into sewage if it suits their goals.

97 CommonCents  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 9:34:29am

It's sad but true, but I have to turn off the halftime show on Sunday night football because the blathering idiot is on NBC for that too. His stint at ESPN no more makes him a sports commentator as his employment at MSNBC makes a political commentator. He just a raving lunatic.

98 Nancy  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 9:36:23am

And though I have no evidence, I find it ironical that the Leftist websites might be just "tools" of Palin's Alaskan Republican ultra-conservative and corrupt enemies.

Her strongest critics before being named VP were Alaskan Republicans whose toes she stepped on.

That it was hard to find any Democrat who had anything really bad to say about her governing and accomplishments before.

One has to wonder why these "rumors" dating back to her term as Mayor were never mentioned or discussed or had ANY coverage and suddenly all these few people REMEMBER these things that occurred more than a decade ago!

As Governor, Sarah Palin had the SUPPORT of the Democrats in going after the corruption. They couldn't say enough good about her "guts" and determination to not let party politics influence her.

Apparently, NOW they don't have the same guts to not allow THEIR party politics influence THEM and are willing to dish out smears, rumors and dirt because she happens to be running against a Democrat.

Shows where the partisan politics is. She was only "good" when she went after corrupt Republicans but the idea that she and McCain might not let "party" stand in their way and go after corrupt Democrats TOO ......can't have that.

99 grahamski  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 9:42:05am

Nope, I never watch ANY show that kook is a part of...never have liked him, even back in his ESPN days.

re: #95 jill e

It really is beyond belief...

This person is trying to "save" Bristol Palin by convincing her to abort her baby.

What a truly vile and disgusting excuse for a human being.

Doug Stanhope, go fuck yourself.

Pardon my French, but that pisses me off more than week's worth of Keif Olberdouche.

101 DoubleU  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 9:43:43am

The dailykos and Countdown people have the same audience, most of them have said, "Well I already knew that."

103 sdmoderate  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 10:01:24am

What kind of person enjoys this sort of ugly ranting and dishonest distortion?

Probably the Liberal version of a Bill O'Reilly viewer. The only difference is there is half the number viewers in Olbermann's case.

re: #24 WriterMom

Trig Palin is not only a gift from G-d to the Palin family but he has an additional purpose which is to be the vehicle for exposing the hatred of these vile, repulsive leftists and their loathing of disabled babies, children and adults. They cannot contain their hatred, it explodes from within them and smears of this sort-based on heinous lies just show the absolute moral bankruptcy of the left and the liberal elites. Trig is a messenger-what a privilege he has-how blessed the Palin family is to have him-and us by extension.

Well put WriterMom. Some sage insight indeed. That sweet little boy is an ambassador and he doesn't even know it yet! :)

re: #34 livefreeor die

Now that is an Olberman show I'll watch!

Here Here! Popcorn anyone?

110 DaChew  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 10:47:36am

Rachel Madow has passed Olbermann in ratings on MSNBC.

OlberFAIL!

CABLE RACE, TUES, SEPT 16

HANNITY/COLMES 3,136,000
O'REILLY 3,060,000
GRETA 2,908,000
HUME 1,977,000
COOPER 1,828,000
RACHEL MADDOW 1,801,000
SHEP SMITH 1,724,000
KING 1,710,000
OLBERMANN 1,635,000
GRACE 1,166,000
DOBBS 1,156,000
HARDBALL 821,000

111 DaChew  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 10:50:28am

Disregard my previous post. It's been discussed. I searched the page for Madow rather than Maddow and thought it hadn't been.

Except for the "OlberFAIL". I think that does add to the conversation.

112 DaChew  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 10:52:56am

Wait, let me bold that since it's really the actual focus of, I think, my main discussion point:

OlberFAIL!

113 _RememberTonyC  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 10:53:09am

maddow in many ways is dobermann's creation. and he will NOT be happy for her success! this could get interesting over there. maybe GE has set the "maddow trap" so he will say something beyond the pale and they will have a legit reason to fire him.

114 joan  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 10:57:34am

OT: OBAMA is the "Worst Person in the World," for directing a campaign an in Spanish only, to illegal immigrants in demographics where English is not spoken. His slogan ought to be: Change! Resign America's Sovereignty!

re: #23 livefreeor die

Is it me or has the MSM suddenly tried to bury the Palin e-mail story this morning?

It is called a "blackout" it happens all the time.

Hey! Maybe we could get "Radio Free Europe" upgraded to broadcast into our country, it could be "Free America Broadcast"

116 mattm  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 11:07:12am

I have never watched much of his show. I cna only watch it fora few monutes before i want to smash the TV.

What kind of person enjoys this sort of ugly ranting and dishonest distortion?

What kind of network would hire joke writers to create news and a joke to deliver it?

118 pokeefe  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 12:13:03pm

I suspect that Olbermann is pleased to be called "the worst person on television".

Like a number of others, he mistakes controversy for debate, and regards outrageousness as a kind of artistic pioneering.

Ignore him.

re: #27 Elcid

Olbermann...Hmmmm. Didn't his Grandfather flee to South America, after WWII?

Oh......THAT Uebersturmbannfuehrer Olbermann.......

120 sbrowning  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 1:32:23pm

I removed msnbc from all the channel scan lists on our TVs years ago, just to prevent me from having to lay eyes on that jackass for a fraction of a second.

121 alien_mind  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 1:39:37pm

olby heads my list of worst people in the world, followed closely by Michael Moore and Bill Maher.

Olby has been off the deep end for a long time now, and its depressing to watch him even for a moment.

i don't get how executives at NBC and GE think that Olberman is a good person to represent their brand.

totally disgusting.

122 Paul  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 2:23:03pm

I love the irony of Lefties damning the bias of O'Reilly and Hannity as they embrace Olbermann.

Keith is nothing but a dog barking idiotically through an endless night and only his fellow left wing mutts think he has anything worth listening to.

123 Sharmuta  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 2:43:41pm

re: #36 Conservative in Liberal Hands

General Electric (GE) owns:
Bravo
CNBC
Focus Features & Rogue Pictures
Global Networks
MSNBC
Mun2
NBC Entertainment
NBC News
NBC Sports & Olympics
NBC Universal Television Group
NBC Universal Television Stations
SCI FI
Telemundo
USA Network
Universal Parks & Resorts
Universal Pictures
Universal Studios Home Entertainment
Weather Plus
iVillage

Given their stock performance and the revenue that is generated by their media networks, why haven't someone at GE terminated Mr. Olbermann's services?

GE makes most of their money on their finance division- or at least they used to.

124 Sharmuta  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 2:47:37pm

re: #73 EIDE_Interface

We need someone like that on our side. Oops, we do - Michael Savage. He was on MSNBC but got fired over a anti-gay remark.

No- we do not need a nut case on our side. All people like Savage do is give the left an easy target with which to degrade us all.

125 hl mencken  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 4:06:21pm

Actually, guys, he's more to be pitied than derided. I would be depressed as hell were I consumed with such utter, irrational hatred as he is. Never anything positive about his guys, just a litany of snide, hate-filled remarks about Bushitler, Cheney, O'Reilly (he's reaaaaaally got an unhealthy fixation on Bill), etc -- everyone else is stupid, clueless, a liar, etc, only he and his swells really "get it." Something tells me he's ben alienating and annoying people since he was in elementary school.

What an empty, pathetic and immature existence -- the only difference between Olbermann and the drunken homeless guy screaming on a street corner is some inept NBC exec mistakenly provided this clown with a forum, something, I can safely say, he won't have much longer.

re: #1 Celtic Templar

In his pilot show at begin credits.

Why does anyone really give a damn about Keith "Uber"man anyhow ?

127 kansas  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 7:02:06pm

I surfed into Rachel Maddow. I stopped for maybe 10 seconds and she said that polls had shown that the selection of Palin had actually shown a decrease in support from women. Right. The whole network is one big lie.

128 RossM3838  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 8:52:49pm

Its either just showbiz or this guy is truly deranged. I don't know how he sleeps at night with a head so full of hatred and paranoia. Its amazing that anyone can watch this show at all. Actually it isnt really a show at all. Usually its him ranting about the other guy's show. The other guy's show is just as stupid but it does have a wide variety of guest and topics. This guy always has the exact same "guests" from Newsweek to simply agree with his unhinged ranting.

129 winston06  Thu, Sep 18, 2008 8:58:03pm

It really is shocking that any company would allow this to be their face.
