Video: Sarah Palin on Social Issues

Politics | Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 6:23:47 pm PDT

Just as I’ve been writing for more than a month, she supports the teaching of evolution as “an accepted principle.”

Quote: “Science should be taught in science class.” (And that does not include “intelligent design.”)

UPDATE at 9/30/08 6:41:31 pm:

The video is way out of sync with the audio. Good work, CBS.

And on the other hand:

A noted psychiatrist was a guest at a party and his host, Barak, naturally broached the subject in which the doctor was most at ease.

"Would you mind telling me, Doctor," Barak asked "how you detect a mental deficiency in somebody who appears completely normal?"

"Nothing is easier," he replied. "You ask him a simple question which everyone should answer with no trouble. If he hesitates, that puts you on the track."

"What sort of question?"

"Well, you might ask him, 'Captain Cook made three trips around the world and died during one of them. Which one?'

Barak thought for a moment, and then said with a nervous laugh, "You wouldn't happen to have another example would you? I must confess I don't know much about history."

Poll at PBS: Is Palin qualified to be VP? Here

Poll is even. I just voted.

Haaar, she's a lot more qualified than Obama, much less Biden. Interesting that Biden is more qualified than Obama, hence the allegations that Obama is not qualified and using this election to get his "name in the cards" with no realistic expectation of nomination. In essence the MSM supported all news on Obama whilst suppressing positive news of Clinton resulting in Obama's flawed nomination. This is an extremely weak Democrat "ticket". MSM refuses to investigate serious issues with Obama while "pit-bulling" Palin.
/What? me worry? No sign of bias here.....

A month before the '04 election, they were crowing it would be Kerry by 6.

The day after, they were parachuting lawyers into Ohio to try to sue everyone who didn't vote the right way.

Thanks to the wisdom of our Founding Fathers in giving us the secret ballot, they had to settle for whining and calling us stupid.

I've got a feeling that this time around, if they lose, it'll be a much more dangerous form of tantrum.

As it stands, I'd say that the Obamatrons are panicking already- hence their legal thug squads' jackboot tactics, as with the NRA ads.

Actually, it's "Have you stopped eating babies?"

But closer to current reality, in the UN, they support abortion rights in general, but at the same time vehemently oppose the use of abortion for the practice of sex selection, which apparently happens on a grand scale in China. I don't really get that logic. If abortion is a truly a personal decision, then why should anyone question why that decision was made.

Hystery not History

Look, the underlying idea to "herstory" is that women have been largely omitted from the history textbooks. And there is a huge amount of truth there. Let me give you just one example -

I recently got a book for the kiddo about Great Scientists. Published by DK. It contains biographies of 30 of the most important names in science, going all the way back to Archimedes. Two of them are women - Marie Curie and Dorothy Hodgkin. Lost in the clutter of the pages, relegated to a postage stamp size picture and a one sentence fine print description are -

Lise Meissner, discovered nuclear fission
Rosalind Franklin, did the x-ray crystallography which determined the structure of DNA (many scientists believe that she should have shared in the Cricks-Watson Nobel)
Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, USN - did the pioneering work in computer programming

All of these women's contributions were the equal of those of the men who "own" the pages they appear on.

I agree completely.
with the kids' videos and the media how it is, it's like watching the creation of Mussolini or Adolph all over again, both of whom in the beginning were idolized by the media and hollyweird.
History repeats itself and moonbats are looking for their godman to worship.

In the movie "300"....doesn't Xerxes kinda remind you of Obama?
the man who would be god.

One of my favorite scenes from 300 is when the Persian ambassador comes to Sparta demanding soil and water as the Spartans' acknowledgement of Xerxes' rule.

My first thought was, "Oh, so that's where the Gaia cultists I have to put up with today got the whole 'worshiping dirt' thing."

The comparison of Obama to Xerxes is a good point. Both were men of little actual accomplishment (Xerxes inherited his throne and empire from Darius I, Obama got it by playing the game by the Big Boys' rules), who were raised in hothouse political cultures (the Persian court and Cook County), who considered themselves to be divine, and who demanded and got worship from their subjects, who regarded them as demigods.

And I suspect that in the end, Obama will find himself with a deeper understanding of how Xerxes felt after Plataea in 479 BC.

Here is the latest email spam McCain hit piece, probably sent to me by mistake.

MY HOLIDAY WITH JOHN McCAIN

by Mary-Kay Gamel

It was just before John McCain's last run at the presidential
nomination in 2000 that my husband and I vacationed in Turtle Island
in Fiji with John McCain, Cindy, and their children, including Bridget
(their adopted Bangladeshi child).
It was not our intention, but it was our misfortune to be in close
quarters with John McCain for almost a week, since Turtle Island has a
small number of bungalows and their focus on communal meals force all
vacationers who are there at the same time to get to know each other
intimately.
He arrived at our first group meal and started reading quotes from a
pile of William Faulkner books with a forest of Post-Its sticking out
of them. As an English Literature major myself, my first thought was
"if he likes this so much, why hasn't he memorized any of it yet?" I
soon realized that McCain actually thought we had come on vacation to
be a volunteer audience for his "readings" which then became a regular
part of each meal. Out of politeness, none of the vacationers
initially protested at this intrusion into their blissful holiday, but
people's buttons definitely got pushed as the readings continued day
after day.
Unfortunately this was not his only contribution to our mealtime
entertainment. He waxed on during one meal about how Indo-Chine women
had the best figures and that our American corn-fed women just
couldn't meet up to this standard. He also made it a point that all of
us should stop Cindy from having dessert as her weight was too high
and made a few comments to Amy, the 25 year old wife of the
honeymooning couple from Nebraska, that she should eat less as she
needed to lose weight.
McCain's appreciation of the beauty of Asian women was so great that
David, the American economist, had to move his Thai wife to the other
side of the table from McCain as McCain kept aggressively flirting
with and touching her.
Needless to say I was irritated at his large ego and his rude behavior
towards his wife and other women, but decided he must have some
redeeming qualities as he had adopted a handicapped child from
Bangladesh. I asked him about this one day, and his response was
shocking: "Oh, that was Cindy's idea - I didn't have anything to do
with it. She just went and adopted this thing without even asking me.
You can't imagine how people stare when I wheel this ugly, black thing
around in a shopping cart in Arizona . No, it wasn't my idea at all.
I actively avoided McCain after that, but unfortunately one day he
engaged me in a political discussion which soon got us on the topic of
the active US bombing of Iraq at that time [i.e., Clinton era policing
of no-fly zone]. I was shocked when he said, "If I was in charge, I
would nuke Iraq to teach them a lesson". Given McCain's personal
experience with the horrors of war, I had expected a more balanced
point of view. I commented on the tragic consequences of the nuclear
attacks on Ja pan during WWII
-- but no, he was not to be dissuaded. He went on to say that, if it
were up to him, he would have dropped many more nuclear bombs on
Japan. I rapidly extricated myself from this conversation as I could
tell that his experience being tortured as a POW didn't seem to have
mellowed out his perspective, but rather had made him more aggressive
and vengeful towards the world.

In a word, no. You the voter have to request the absentee ballot.

The crooked Township clerk in my locale got busted for mass-mailing out absentee ballots during a nasty recall campaign a few years back. Low and behold, she supported the recall of her political enemies who were being targeted.

Of course she claimed it was an honest mistake and nothing ever came of her malfeasance. Did I mention she is a dyed in the wool Demonrat?

143 rawmuse  Tue, Sep 30, 2008 7:13:30pm

Part II
My final encounter with McCain was on the morning that he was leaving
Turtle Island. Amy and I were happily eating pancakes when McCain
arrived and told Amy that she shouldn't be having pancakes because she
needed to lose weight. Amy burst into tears at this abusive comment. I
felt fiercely protective of Amy and immediately turned to McCain and
told him to leave her alone. He became very angry and abusive towards
me, and said, "Don't you know who I am." I looked him in the face and
said, "Yes, you are the biggest asshole I have ever met" and headed
back to my cabin. I am happy to say that later that day - when I
arrived at lunch - I was given a standing ovation by all the guests
for having stood up to McCain's bullying.
Although I have shared my McCain story informally with friends, this
is the first time I am making it public. I almost did so in 2000, when
McCain first announced his bid for the Republican nomination, but it
soon became apparent that George Bush was the shoo-in candidate and so
I did not act then. However, now that there is a very real possibility
that McCain could be elected as our next president, I feel it is my
duty as an American citizen to share this story. I can't imagine a
more scary outcome for America than that this abusive, aggressive man
should lead our nation. I have observed him in intimate surroundings
as he really is, not how the media portrays him to be. If his
attitudes toward women and his treatment of his own family are even a
small indicator of his real personality, then I shudder to think what
will happen to America were he to be elected as our President.

Yikes. What a terrible thought.

Because, beyond their usual skills at foresight, they actually understand what happens when there is a significant imbalance in the M/F birth ratio on the M side.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Anon.

Finally, after weeks of a bunch of us pounding on this issue in every outlet possible, Cox at the SEC woke up:

SEC gives banks more leeway on mark-to-market

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. securities regulators on Tuesday gave the financial industry a reprieve from marking hard-to-value assets down to fire sale prices, throwing a lifeline to an industry beset by strained credit markets and the latest round of bank failures.

The U.S. stock market added to gains on the news, in hopes that regulators' new interpretation of fair value, or mark-to-market, accounting rules, will slow or reverse the heavy flow of mortgage-related losses on banks' balance sheets.

In the new guidance, first reported by Reuters, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission reminded financial services firms that they don't need to use fire sale prices when evaluating their hard to price assets.

"This is a significant first step and adds stability, confidence, and liquidity within the capital markets," said Steve Bartlett, president and chief executive of The Financial Services Roundtable. "By clarifying how to treat assets in an uncertain market, the SEC is continuing to provide transparency to investors and helping institutions to provide credit in periods of market stress."

U.S. accounting rule maker, the Financial Accounting Standards Board said on its Web site on Tuesday that it would change the agenda for its Wednesday meeting to focus on fair value accounting. The board is contemplating issuing additional guidance through a FASB staff position as soon as Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Thankfully this is finally happening. This frees up hundreds of billions of encumbered capital on the banks books and should (along with the FDIC coverage increase) go a long way toward easing the credit situation. All FASB has to do is shift to net present value. This is not that hard.

Our Secretary of State , Miss Brunner (intentional Jerry Cornelius ref), has been bombing everyone's mailboxes with absentee ballot applications for the last month. She claims that everyone should vote absentee in every election, and we should abolish polling places altogether.

I suspect so that she is spared the embarassment of people showing up at the polls on Election day only to be told, "Sorry, you'll have to fill out a provisional ballot because our records show you've already voted absentee."

/for a straight Democratic ticket, of course

I'm looking for dirty tricks on Chicago levels in this state on Election Day, especially in Hamilton Co. (Cincinnati area), which the Dems believe have enough votes to let them blow off the other 87 counties and still win Ohio's 23 Electoral College votes.

cheers

We took care of his paw and Lily taught him manners - how to sit on the fence and wait nicely for chicken on BBQ night, how to get in the door, not to pee in the house. Mr. Boots has never quite moved in, but he eats here twice a day and is finally starting to sleep in the house instead of under it. Two days ago he got hit by a car - and my poor daughter (Lily's personal servant) was devastated. Luckily, the lady behind the guy who hit Boots loaded him into her car and ran him back up the road to the Vet. Boots will be coming home tomorrow.

Why I adore Fred Thompson:

"Governor Palin’s every comment was scrutinized by the media and judged against what Jefferson or Lincoln might have said. Never mind that her counterpart, the 30-year-Washington-veteran Joe Biden, apparently is unaware that America relies upon coal for a lot of its electricity or that he recently referred to a top level U.S. official’s visit to Iran that never happened. That’s just Joe being Joe – protected by the sheer number of his gaffes and the fact that he is Barack Obama’s running mate."

more from Fred on Palin:

When John McCain selected Governor Sarah Palin, as his running mate, the Democrats and their far-left constituency let out a primal scream that could be heard from sea to shining sea. How dare he choose someone that they and their pals in the media had not had a chance to vet (i.e. libel, slander, and otherwise and otherwise eviscerate). Ah, but it was not too late. These seekers of “a new kind of politics” poured torrents of malicious abuse upon her and her family.

Plane loads of scandal mongers, lawyers and other truth seekers became more numerous in Alaska than the polar bear, as they rallied local Democrats and disgruntled Republicans to their cause.

Here was a woman who chose to have children and a career. Aging Washington socialites weighed in with newly discovered sensitivity for mothers with careers outside the home. Here was a woman who became upset because her ex-brother-in-law had tasered her nephew and threatened her father. The Democrats and their friends had to save the country from a woman like this.

I've been duking it with the libs at Jonathan Martin's blog on Politico.com the last day or so. Subject being Sarah Palin, of course the crazies have been out blah blah-ing about how she flubbed the supreme court decision question with Couric. Here is one of my favority responses, reposte here:
Kendra: I know Palin flubbed the supreme court decisions question. My response to that is, so what? A similar question would have been, "What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?" Irrelevant, and a "gotcha" question from the start. If you were in her position, with the high stakes she faces and knowing the abject hatred and distain of the questioner, you would probably have done no better. Neither would I. The point is that these questions do not show us a damn thing about what is really important, which is what are the values they subscribe to, and what is the judgement they will use to make decisions? You realize that with modern medicine the odds are that if elected Palin will spend the next four years presiding over state funerals and hosting dinners for visiting poobahs. How many supreme court decisions will she need to do that?

SEC gives banks more leeway on mark-to-market

Thankfully this is finally happening. This frees up hundreds of billions of encumbered capital on the banks books and should (along with the FDIC coverage increase) go a long way toward easing the credit situation. All FASB has to do is shift to net present value. This is not that hard.

Reversing MtoM is the only

bailout

that is needed. Congress should now focus on reforms to stop these idiotic loans to unqualified borrowers guaranteed by taxpayers (FannieMae and FreddieMac). I say let the market take care of the rest.

Gazillions of years ago, Reelfoot Lake was created in Tn due to a massive earthquake. (the mississippi ran backwards)
Based upon that, shouldn't we ensure that FEMA give all Tennesseans earthquake protection at the cost of billions of dollars just in case it happens again in the next gazillion years?
(and yes, "gazillion" is a real estimate according to my 7 year old)

Reelfoot Lake was created by the New Madrid quakes in 1811/1812.

After reading about half of the last thread, I'm thoroughly convinced that the Obamabots are executing a concerted moby strategy of going onto conservative sites and attempting to foment discontent with the McCain/Palin camp, spread panic over the rise in Obama's poll numbers, and generally distracting conservatives from fully supporting McCain/Palin and the Republican party.

I've seen it blatantly at Hot Air, a bit at Michelle Malkin and quite a lot at open comment sites. And all of us here have noticed the antics of EIDE_Interface these last few weeks since it joined here. A plant?

It can't be factually true, being an adoptive parent BOTH OF US signed the papers. While its true Cindy brought home the baby unannounced, from what I've read at the airport McCain ask, "where is she going" referring to the baby, Cindy said "home with us". And McCain's response was "I thought so."

re: #184 MandyManners

Anon.

This helped me a lot last night.
Thank you.

Part II
My final encounter with McCain was on the morning that he was leaving
Turtle Island.

Our educational institutions unfortunately do not in general prepare students to possess the critical thinking skills to be able to sort truth from lies these days. I bet the sender asked that it be forwarded to five best friends, too. This is classic slander of a public figure. Vacation in an exotic location, wife and hubby and a bunch of strangers that could not be located to verify the story, lots and lots of very specific slams at McCain that really shout out a red flag that this is pure myth.

I seriously doubt that if this person was to specify a date when this vacation occurred, that any corroboration could be made that McCain was in the same place at the same time.

These are classic tactics of the left. If you believe you can get away with a big lie, go for it. And if it's just a bunch of small lies, don't even worry about it. No one will check the truth anyway.

People I personally know would buy something like this hook, line and sinker. It's pathetic but true.

I wondered about the "College University of California, Santa Cruz" bit. I am well aware of UCSC, but this one had me puzzled.

There is no such university. It's a fake title.

Not in the last week, since it was just banned, at least for the major financial stocks.

Rumor has it that illegal and uncontrolled "naked" short selling was used to attack financial stocks on and off during the last six months.

Actually, Reelfoot Lake was created in 1821 by the second series of New Madrid Fault earthquakes (1820-24), the first series having taken place in 1813-15.

The fault zone, which actually extends well up into Western Pennsylvania, has been overdue for a major shake almost as long as the much more (in)famous San Andreas Fault in California.

And the Big Muddy did run south to north, flooding several hundred square miles of cropland and changing its course radically over a period of 11 years, to a degree that is usually only seen over millenia. The fault zone is named after a town in Missouri which no longer exists; its former site is now about dead-center of the dredged channel of Ol' Miss below St. Louis.

Suzie was a Puperanian. That is a pomeranian/pup-dog cross. My father in law used to call her "legs" cause she was not big but she looked like she had long legs. She was black, with long hair on her head like a pom, but it thinned out on her body and was never that puffball pom type. faithful friend for so many years. These last few months, she went blind, and so arthritic. I called her many things: snoozie, Zuni, Rita Breckenridge, Mrs. Pentafore, Pup-head. I buried her out back in a good, deep hole, I put her dog bed in first so she would have something lay on, and wrapped her up tight in her beach towel we used for a blanket for her. I'm so sorry for you. We lost our little Lily last fall and we still miss her. Not too long before she passed, she brought home a gangly, awkward half grown male with a wounded paw.

My heart skipped while reading about Boots. So happy he is coming home. I have one of those little cats that adopted Meggie a couple of years ago. She would take walks with us and would walk as if attached to Meg. The neighbors loved it. I have some pix on my cellphone. One day, I'll figure out how to load them on the computer.

True, they claim it was a random number generator again more than possible but it's very likely they kept the number I did answer all the questions favoring Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin. Though I did throw 'em for a loop when they asked me of racial background and I answered Heinz 57.

Wow, they're busy, busy little bees over at the dems' hive! That's one heck of a darned yarn...from a supposed Professor of Classics, Comparative Literature, and Theater Arts Cowell College University of California, Santa Cruz Santa Cruz, California!

I think the Professor forgot that her writing assignment called for a short non-fiction piece rather than a totally fabricated hatchet job...'too many supposed facts to be believable...nice touches with the book readings and instances where plenty of witnesses are interjected...and that part about Cindy McCain being overweight or heavy was a riot and a classic mistake as well as a real-deal breaker...methinks the writer protests too much...final grade on paper, 'F'.

re: #254 galloping granny

It certainly was - had been for a long time. My understanding though is that Bush stopped it by executive order last week sometime.

Here's an example of how damaging it was. Short sellers knew that mutual funds were getting a lot of redemption requests. So they would look up the holdings of say ACME fund for instance, and see that ACME held a lot of Stock "A". So then they would quick run and short sell "A" to start driving the price down artificially. So then the ACME fund would have to sell significantly more shares of "A" than they should have had to to meet their redemption requests.

The short sellers would clean up, and share holders in Janus (and Apple) got clipped. They were doing "naked short sells" too and the SEC was doing nothing about it.

Problem is, the ban exempted specialists and options traders, so they can still short sell.

re: #274 formercorpsman

Define "naked" for me?

In regular short-selling, you borrow shares from your neighbor, sell them to a stranger, and at some future time, you buy shares on the market, hopefully at a lower price, and return them to your neighbor. Since there is a finite number of shares existing, and even fewer that are available for borrowing, this puts a limit on short selling.

In naked short selling, which I believe is not legal, you make up shares out of thin air and sell them to a stranger. At some time in the future, I guess you are supposed to buy some real shares to close the deal. This works, I guess, as long as the stranger doesn't actually demand registered certificates, just a book entry someplace.

What I've heard is that there is insufficient supervision to see what is going on with this, so the whole mechanism needs to be turned off. But if it's all that fradulent, I don't really see what effect the regulation is going to have.

Rumor has it that illegal and uncontrolled "naked" short selling was used to attack financial stocks on and off during the last six months.

The truth of these rumors is not known to me. It would take a lot of capital and a lot of nerve, to make such attacks, is all I can say.

It was absolutely happening and big time. SEC should have fried the bastards but did nothing. The SEC has let a lot of stuff go by, like Steve Jobs back dating stock options to himself at Apple.

When the SEC asked him about it (actually their auditors caught it first) Jobs said that he did not understand the implications of doing that and the SEC let it go.

I want Cox fired, like now.

Define "naked" for me?

By the rules, when you do a short sell (i.e., borrow stock from your broker ans sell it) you are supposed to actually set the stock aside in a brokerage account and be held until the entire transaction is closed. This puts some limit on the volume of how many shares you can short sell, limited by how many the broker will let you borrow and set aside at any point in time.

A "naked" short sell is when no stock is actually set aside, you just go to the market and sell stock you don;t have and did not even borrow, and drive the price down then buy it up to close the deal. That, combined with no "uptick" rule, is a license to steal on the stock market.

It would really stink to have your name fraudulently used by an unscrupulous "the ends justify the means" Obamaton for this kind of smear.

First thing I thought of was Anita Hill! I'm amazed they didn't mention pubic hair on a coke can. And how bout that McCain wanting to nuke Iraq in 2000! So precient!

Our furbabies will be waiting on us for sure. Thank you.

Loosing a loyal friend hurts. A friend who was always grateful for a little attention, always wanted to play the moment you ask, enjoy a pleasant walk, bath in the sun, and was always so excited to see you come home after a long, miserable day to give you a smile that never seemed to end. To see them again is a dream come true.

Feedback, please!

Just published this at zomblog:

The Greenlining Institute: Does the financial crisis have its origins in Berkeley?

However, it was a total rush job, as I have no time to proofread it or do a bunch of research, as I have to attend to a pressing real-world work deadline.

Any quick suggestions for improvements? Any relevant links? I got many 15 more minutes to devote to this, max.

Isn't it about time, for humanity's sake, that you give up this real world gig and focus on the really important work of zombieng ?

re: #346 3 wood

A "naked" short sell is when no stock is actually set aside, you just go to the market and sell stock you don;t have and did not even borrow, and drive the price down then buy it up to close the deal. That, combined with no "uptick" rule, is a license to steal on the stock market.

/get a few heavy hitters together and they could actually bust the float on some companies if no one's paying attention

re: #321 seekeroftruth

I thought President Bush put a temporary halt to short selling.

It was the SEC and they left some loop holes. Specialists and options traders can still short sell. That is why all the stocks on the banned list are still undervalued.

By the way, Newt Gingrich has now come around to my way of thinking and thinks that we need to buy up these toxic securities.

Evening all. Anyone here think that Katie Curic would ever, ever, EVER, in a million years, say the words, "I'm sorry, let me ask you again, ...." to Joe Biden, Barack Obama, or any other democrat, for that matter? This is a great clip of Sarah Palin, and I thought she had a good conversation with Curic this time, but she needs to learn how to play the game with these asshole left-wing interviewers.

396 wright1  Tue, Sep 30, 2008 8:06:47pm

You all may have heard this one but if you have not it is rather funny:

One sunny day in 2009, an old man approached the White House from across
Pennsylvania Avenue , where he'd been sitting on a park bench.

He spoke to the Marine standing guard and said, 'I would like to go in
and meet with President Barack Obama.'

The Marine replied, 'Sir, Mr. Obama is not President and doesn't reside here.'

The old man said, 'Okay,' and walked away. The following day, the same
man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, 'I would
like to go in and meet with President Barack Obama'.

The Marine again told the man, 'Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Obama is not President
and doesn't reside here.' The man thanked him and again walked away.

The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the
very same Marine, saying ' I would like to go in and meet with President Barack Obama'.

The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said,
'Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Obama.
I've told you already several times that Mr. Obama is not the President and doesn't reside here.
Don't you understand?'

The old man answered, 'Oh, I understand you fine. I just love hearing your answer!'

The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, 'See you tomorrow.'

Absolutely, and I did a blurb on it upthread a ways. I think this is one big reason why the market jumped today. Do the FDIC increase and reinstate the uptick rule and you will get another 500 point pop by noon tomorrow.

re: #367 mich-again

Very good for them then. I will "Barry" my grudge when they move to the new park.

2009, I think. I haven't followed baseball since the '91 series. And I wasn't really a baseball fan up until that year. I just started riding my bike to The Dome occasionally on weekend afternoons to enjoy the air-conditioning while reading the paper. I'd buy a tix for the upper deck in left field and sat largely by myself for most games, doing the crossword and occasionally looking down on the game.

Worst to First. It got crowded up there by the end of the summer. I don't know a whole lot about baseball, but I though Jack Morris was a serious stud for pitching all 10 innings of Game #9. Watched that one from Bullwinkle's on Seven Corners. Great game.

The next year the players went on strike.
