Biden's Lebanon Nonsense

Politics | Thu, Oct 2, 2008 at 9:45:41 pm PDT

From The Corner, a letter from a reader points out another series of ludicrous statements from Joe Biden, just making up a bunch of total nonsense about Lebanon and the Hezbollah terror group.

Joe Biden threw out a lot of bunk on foreign policy tonight, too bad Gov Palin didn’t have the foreign policy wonkishness to call him on it.  Most ridiculous and downright strange was his contention that the Bush administration let Hezbollah into Lebanon, and then when “we threw them out” – whatever that means, he and Obama said NATO should go in but nobody took them up on it and now Hezbollah was all over Lebanon and that’s a problem.  What?

Well, Hezbollah’s been there since the early 1980’s of course, blossoming throughout the 1990’s to become now over a third of the population of Lebanon with 2 cabinet members, a host of parliamentarians, and schools, clinics, and basically an entirely separate governance infrastructure in all of southern Lebanon and elsewhere.  I suppose the throwing out of Hezbollah was the dismal and failed Israeli campaign of 2006 which dislodged nothing?  Or was it Israeli’s occupation of Southern Lebanon from 1982 – 1999?  Don’t remember an Obama position on NATO replacing Israeli occupation then.  As for NATO going in after the 2006 debacle, well, I’m the one who rounded up 8,000 French and Italians and a few thousand other Euros to go into Southern Lebanon along with an assortment of others in August 2006 and while working that issue for about 40 straight days I don’t remember a peep from Biden or Obama about NATO – which wouldn’t be budged despite our intense pressure in Mons.  So, we went straight to Rome and Paris.  Que sera, sera.

Jeez....our eeeeeeevil liazardoid overlord is cranking out these threads so fast and furious, I wonder if he's even gonna bother with an overnight open thread.

That was the part that totally rang my "LIAR JOE" bells. Babbling idiocy with made-up nonsense. To think he could be President is - bad.

4 zombie  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 9:49:08pm

Someone needs to re-brand this debate as Joe's Festival of Mendacity.

5 rightwinger3  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 9:49:29pm

The MSM will absolutely not call him on this either. Foreign policy guru, my ass. Biden and Obama are just foreign.

6 Wishing  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 9:50:17pm

Interview with Obama:
The U.S. needs a foreign policy that “looks at the root causes of problems and dangers.” Obama compared Hezbollah to Hamas. Both need to be compelled to understand that “they’re going down a blind alley with violence that weakens their legitimate claims.” He knows these movements aren’t going away anytime soon (“Those missiles aren’t going to dissolve”), but “if they decide to shift, we’re going to recognize that. That’s an evolution that should be recognized.”

Where do you think Hillary is in all this? I haven't seen her doing a whole lot of fundraising on 0bama's behalf lately, but then again, I haven't really been looking, either.

Joe totally reminds me of one of my Irish uncles when he's been drinking. The only thing is Joe appears to be that way sober.

Cattt, yes but to think his running mate could be the president is even worse.

I thought the real slap in the face moment was when Biden said Israel had no better friend in the Senate than him. Really? Even more so than Senator Lieberman?

I thought he meant "we" chased Syria out and then stood bye while their proxies in Hizbollah took over. It gets hard when you have to do the thinking for both sides of an argument.

re: #6 Wishing

I'm just trying to imagine someone in an Obama administration telling Hamas or Hezbollah that they're 'weakening their legitimate claims' with violence. "Oh, that's not us, that's the violent wing. We never know what they're going to do."

17 Pawn of the Oppressor  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 9:54:31pm

I'm going to have to see a transcript to make sense of all the bullshit.

Lebanon - made no sense at all. Huh?

Iraq - utterly, totally ignorant of why a timetable would be a bad idea, I mean real basic, totally-out-of-touch LBJ kind of thinking here, classic war-hating liberal nonsense. Doesn't seem to understand why anybody would be opposed to advertising when you're leaving.

- Afghanistan - those budget numbers were horseshit

- "Palestine" - Bush failed, but Condi's doing great? What? Apparently is unaware of how State Department marches to its own tune, yet didn't even pay lip service to a "roadmap", never mind the fact that Bush was the first guy in years to seriously recognize "Palestinians" with any sort of implied legitimacy... Totally bass-ackwards, no reality here at all...

There is more... Dude does not live on this planet, he lives in Democrat Free-Floating Factville, where you can just make shit up on the fly.

18 JulianWinter  Thu, Oct 2, 2008 9:55:19pm

I wrote this in the Biden's Lie-post, but it seems far more relevant here:

As an Israeli citizen (watching the debate live from Tel Aviv, I might add) I was shocked to hear from the Chairman of the Foreign Relations committee that Hamas is in control of the West Bank after the US had allowed an election to take place.

I mean, I knew they controlled Gaza, but the West Bank too? Bizarre that I didn't notice. Oh well, Joe Biden is "Mr. Foreign Relations" so I guess he knows!

Hello guys! I had a group of folks praying for Sarah...
I like her cheerfulness and her appearance of innocence...she is an example of the heartland of America.
There were points in the beginning that I thought Sarah should have answered back but apparently Ifill did not give her a chance.

Many have commented that Ifill was fair.

Actually my opinion was that she was not fair...she asked questions that were Democrats' talking points...

Like gay marriage, global warming, War in Iraq...they were points that Democrats would shine...

I appreciated Sarah saying that she respects people no matter what and that she is tolerant of diversity but she will stand by the fact that marriage should be between one man and one woman. Biden's claim that gays are denied visitation rights, housing rights and other civil rights are really lies...I am still not sure what Biden said about if he agreed with gay marriage or not...

Sure thing, buddy. Qalqilya (in the West Bank) is only 7 miles away from here, being the coast of Israel.

Slacking, naive foreign policy is going to get Hamas terrorists sitting pretty 7 miles from the largest population center of Israel. But it's all good, because we have no greater friend in the Senate than Joe Biden.

Biden had one very effective routine where he would talk to the camera and cite McCain's voting record (without context), basically calling Palin a liar. That was his one good tactic. Other than that, he hardly made any sense and kept going back to the McBush thing.

Palin spoke clear, stood up to him just fine, got a few good licks in, was charming, sharp, confident, no overt screw-ups, fell back on boilerplate in a couple of places but otherwise kicked butt.

Lefties are scared because Sarah put Joe in his place and her performance may have turned some undecided's away from 'The One'. Sarah's grasp of the issues made Joe look unprepared as if he was under- estimating her knowledge of the facts. Joe tried to lie his way out of that fact. (See Joe gaffes)

Joe started out smiling and looking dapper, but eventually Gov. Palin wore him down. He fell into his typical lying gabblefest, repeating himself, glowering sulkily, and telling tearjerker stories that went out of style at the turn of the last century.

Sarah Palin was terrific. She did very well technically on her strong issues and ok on her weak spots, but she didn't always have the knowledge to catch Joe in his lies. She did, however, get two or three hits, which took the wind out of Joe's sails.

Sarah Palin, bless her, came across beautifully, as real, down-to-earth, sharp, and one of us - as opposed to all those DC technowonks who went to fricking Haavad.

Joe lost his damn toothy smile about a half hour in, and he looked tired. He made stuff up and bloviated more and more. A couple of times he broke in and made extra stupid gabby come-back remarks when the moderator was trying to ask a new question. He came across exactly like a nice enough, but drunk fellow, using all his bag of tricks to win a pissing contest, which is what he always ends up doing, imho. Not that he was drunk - he just seems to think that way.

re: #36 Opilio

Yes. I need to hear a good rebuttal of his lies and half-truths. He appeared earnest to me, and he did a great job at making himself appear an authority on every topic. Yet I've been in political discussions with libs, and I know they tend to pull convenient 'facts' out of their butts whenever it's convenient, even if they're full of crap they'll appear to have won the argument. Then I go back and check what they're saying, and I find out they were just making it all up.

I hate discussing Israel with most people. I happen to find all the lunatics. I knew about the un-provoked Katyusha attacks and the damage it caused. Yet the guy managed to throw me off a little bit when he claimed the Israelis had gone in and shot up the homes of a bunch of innocent, unsuspecting Palis just days before. I hadn't heard of any such incident, but it didn't matter. He succeeded in his efforts to twist my perception of what was really going on.
Which is why, I'm terrible--terrible--at debating.

In a radio interview, Senator McCain appeared not to realize that Zapatero is the president of Spain. I personally think he misunderstood the questioner, who had a pretty thick accent, and thought she was asking about some guy in South America.

It was no big deal, but both Barry and Joe have played it for all it is worth. When Joe started his copyrighted stuttery yelling with "Spain! Spain! Spain!"he just looked like he was over reacting to something - he looked stupid. Most people will have no clue why the dufus is yelling Spain over and over, imho. Typical senatorial posturing bullshit. IMHO.

Biden blew it completely with is wild arsed 'make it up as he goes along' nonsense. Unfortunately Palin was not savvy or experienced enough to pick him up immediately in his lies and she effectively gave him a free pass about a dozen times. Palin won the debating contest hands down. She didn't have the depth however to pick up on Biden's BS. If she had this would have been a slam dunk and the Dems would have lost the election based on what went down this evening.

Unless McCain can pull it out next week and in the final month I'm afraid that Obama will be the next POTUS and that will tear the country apart. Forget about lining up behind the new president after the smoke of the election battles has cleared. Obama represents such a clear danger to the democracy of the US that a full on cultural civil war will develop. I know serving US forces personnel who will reject Obama as C in C. Many will resign rather than serve under him. That is so serious a problem that it has the potential to rip the US apart at a time when the enemies of the west are just waiting their chance to strike.

I believe there are dark times are coming for the US an us all. This will be way past politics. We will be in a cultural battle for our basic freedoms and our physical safety from our enemies. Personally i believe that there are now not enough Americans with the culture to stand up against the tide of hedonistic MTV drones, Joe Sixpack idiots and cunning organized leftists with a solid agenda for cultural change. God help us all.
