Shiny Happy Communists

The Communist Party USA likes the direction in which America is headed: US communists say their time has come.

NEW YORK (AFP) — A rare bird in the political world, the US Communist Party is feeling rather smug in these days of capitalist turmoil.

At the party’s New York headquarters on 23rd Street in Manhattan, regional party chairman Libero Della Piana, 36, laid out why he thinks Marxist-Leninism’s time has finally come. “We are very excited, we feel that we are at a turning point,” Della Piana, an imposing half-Italian, half-African American with a pony tail, told AFP.

“We can afford to be less on the defensive for the first time since Ronald Reagan, and we can say our word in rebuilding America on a new basis, rebuilding a better world, instead of one based on the greed of the few.” ...

Communist youth coordinator Erica Smiley, 28, said “the major issues for the young are: peace, jobs, health care, education, and we provide them with answers.” ...

But few people were about during a visit by AFP on Monday and the atmosphere was collegial and slightly sleepy, rather than revolutionary. “They are all out working to get people to vote,” explained Bill Davis, 65, who has been a faithful member for 37 years.

There is no communist running for the White House and the Communist Party does not endorse Democrat Barack Obama. Yet many staff here wore his picture on lapel buttons, while Republican John McCain was relegated to a box of tissues — the tissues being pulled through his mouth.

Agence France Presse says the Communist Party doesn’t endorse Barack Obama, but that’s just the media covering for him again. Because they do endorse Obama.

The thing is you should never use just one source. If Newsbusters is reporting something generally you can find their source and others to validate.

Big surprise. Obama is a commie, in the usual Marx-lite way that I've seen in academia. Read the Cliff Notes to Marx, thought it sounded like a good idea. And he is sufficiently confident in his understanding to go knock down the American economy and replace it with something better.

This is the sort of understanding a relatively bright undergrad might have of human anatomy and physiology after a freshman-level class -- just the man you'd want slicing into you to repair a bad heart valve. Only in Obama's case, scratch that "bright".

That's lovely. I came across a beautiful oversized book of Maxfield Parrish's work at a used bookstore in San Francisco last summer. I really wanted it, and it wasn't so much the money as the weight -- I would have incurred a $80 overweight baggage charge with it.

Eighteen video games, including the extremely popular Guitar Hero and Madden 09 will feature in-game ads from the Obama campaign in the final weeks before the election. The ads — appearing on billboards and other signage — remind players that early voting has begun and plug a campaign Web site that encourages people to register for early voting.

Obama campaign officials said the video game ads target 10 states that allow early voting, including several battleground states: Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, Montana, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Nevada, New Mexico, Florida, and Colorado.

The campaign did not say how much it cost to launch the ad blitz on gamers.

Just a word about the judges, Who are the likely Justices to be retiring? Isn't it Ginsburg and Souter? They are already two of the most liberal Justices. Their replacements couldn't be much worse could they? As usual for Internet Explorer, the problem was fixed by doing something that has no apparent logic to it whatsoever.

The preview DIV was the cause of the jumping around. Even when it was hidden. Sheesh. It needed to have the following style:

#previewdiv { zoom: 1.0; }

Same with the comment entry box; this same style fixed the problems with the buttons.

This silly rule forces IE to give "layout" to those elements, for some arcane Microsoft reason. Without layout, everything stinks.

Yesterday I sent two recent editorials to an acquaintance, a fervent Obama supporter. One was from the Workers World Party, the other from the WSJ. Both covered the recent financial turmoil and what it means to America. I did not include information as to their sources.

You know where I'm going here. This person agreed completely with the WWP editorial almost 100% while dismissing almost everything in the other.

When I gave her the sources, she immediately accused me of personally attacking her and setting her up. She was after all, not a communist but a Democrat you see.

I told her I was a Democrat for 20 of my 30 voting age years as well until the party platform resembled something closer to the CPUSA than it did with the party I grew up with.

Alas, it didn't matter. She's still voting for Obama because (are you ready for this one?) because she works hard and should have decent health care, and people like me should "contribute" more into the system.

Go on Charles, just rename your site to "The People's Football" and be done with it. We are so screwed.

Check out this article by Michelle Malkin on new voter fraud in Ohio. Read the biographies of these worthless creeps. They all attended or are attending "elite" colleges and have received high academic prizes. Their goal in life is obviously to commit as much voter fraud as possible. But it isn't ridiculous to question the values of a candidate whose political career got its start in the Chicago living room of violent traitors like Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, who have never expressed remorse for the brutal crimes they committed in the Weather Underground. Though still numerically small, we continue to play a role much larger than our numbers in the political life of our state. Our pioneering statements on the closure of Hanford (issued in 1986), on Jobs and Trees (issued in 1989), our Washington State Economic Bill of Rights (issued in 1993), an expose of the “Weed and Seed” program, our Jobs Not Jails pamphlet (issued in 1996) all paved the way for broadening and deepening the struggles for a better life for all, for jobs, justice, equality, peace, and socialism. They all attended or are attending "elite" colleges and have received high academic prizes. Their goal in life is obviously to commit as much voter fraud as possible. I don't know about that. The people who've been buying guns since the '94 "Assault Weapons" ban haven't been buying them just to turn them in. Ayers [Rich Lowry]

Not surprisingly, the Ayers attacks don't appear to have worked. You can argue it's because McCain wasn't comfortable enough with them, or if only he'd been more full-throated—and included Wright—it would have made a difference. I doubt it. Attacking Ayers had to be just a cog in a much larger case against Obama (we tried to outline it here). Now people like Dick Morris seem to think linking Acorn and Obama will make a huge difference. Acorn obviously deserves all the obloquy being heaped on it (see our editorial here), but I can't see many people voting on the issue. People are focused on the financial crisis, and unless/until McCain has a compelling, future-oriented message and program on the economy, nothing else is going to help him much. Check out this post from Ben Smith. A Republican consultant wrote him about a focus group where he aired an incredibly harsh anti-Obama spot that everyone in the room believed—but it still didn't matter. Here's a quote from one woman in the focus group: "Well, I don't know much about this terrorist group Barack used to be in with that Weather guy but I'm sick of paying for health insurance at work and that's why I'm supporting Barack."

Some far-out speculation on what Obama was up to while at Columbia U.

“I spent a lot of time in the library. I didn’t socialize that much. I was like a monk,” Obama was quoted as saying.

He said he was somewhat involved with the Black Student Organization and anti-apartheid activities, though, in recent interviews, several prominent student leaders said they did not remember his playing a role.

Odd. Here was a guy who had spent his life hanging with radicals and seeking out causes. Now, at what was practically Ground Zero for campus activists, he decides to hide in the library.

I sure hope that all who swore to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States are paying attention. There are a lot of us, both in the military and civilian sectors.

I know it happens as a matter of course, but if Obama were, God forbid, to win, he is in no way qualified for the privilege of the sort of security clearances he will receive. Heavy drug use, terrible associations, questionable travel to Pakistan, and who knows about his finances since he was still paying student loans while he and his wife made six figures. Allof these things would disqualify a lesser person for the privilege.

Happened to me 20 or so years ago - someone had racked up a total of over $1,000 for automobile parts in Conn. I called Visa and spoke to security and then said all the charges were under $x so that there would be no checking by the retailer as to validity of the credit card user. Then, at my request, they told me who it was a few weeks later - an employee at NCR who actually made up a VISA card as a duplicate of mine!
But that raises the question of WHO COULD OR WOULD ACCEPT A $2000 OR MORE charge on a credit card without at least verifying the user's pin and other information? Hmmmm?

Insignificant percentages by themselves, but NEITHER AYERS NOR WRIGHT had registered ANY interest to Independents in the same poll taken two weeks ago.

The 'McCarthyism' meme is centered around the fraudulent historical stance that Communists were being persecuted by the Republican Party (even though the first anti-Communists were Democrats, and that movement included both the Kennedy brothers), out of some kind of attempt to suppress a political ideology.

While I'm sure there were quite a few anti-Communists that were indeed vindictive, being a Communist, or belonging to a Communist party was never illegal. The momentum behind the anti-Communist movement was centered around intel that Communist organizations in the US were in contact with the Kremlin, which turned out to be very true. This simple fact as to why Communists recieved such scrutiny; that they were working as domestic spies and provacatuers on behalf of a foreign Nation, is the missing piece of the puzzle in our cultural narrative.

Not at all. Obama has known & worked with Ayers at least as far back as 1995 when Ayres held a party to launch Obama's political career. Thing is, why would Ayers do that if he didn't already know him? So they must have met before that. When?

My guess is they go back to when Obama was at Columbia from '81 to '83 and Ayres was at the Bank Street School just around the corner at the same time.

In 1982, Obama took a job as a summer student in Chicago, a city he had no connection too, and where he claims he knew nobody, at the law firm Bernadine Dohrn worked at. Bill Ayres father was a close friend of the director of the firm. What a coincidence!?!

Governments are the largest employers and consumers of goods and services, and they provide the social safety nets for the severely disabled, poor, sick and elderly via a host of government funded programs. Modern democratic Governments have always been responsible for imposing minimum labour standards and allowing workers to organize, and for supplying basic universal public education to everyone and minimum support to the elderly.

It is one thing to argue over the need for more or less government regulation of capital markets, and the case for better regulation frankly seems airtight. It is quite another and silly thing to claim that the entire capitalist system is rotten to the core, beyond repair and incapable of proper regulation.

As for Commie support of Obama, is it not completely rational for them to support the candidate whose views are closest to their own? Commie support of Obama does not necessarily mean that Obama himself is a Commie.
