Obama Ridicules 'Socialist' Charge, But He Admitted Seeking Out Marxist Professors and Socialist Conferences

Politics | Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 3:58:19 pm PDT

Barack Obama is mocking the charges that he promotes socialist ideology: Obama ridicules McCain charge he’s socialist.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Barack Obama accused Republican rival John McCain on Wednesday of stooping to low tactics by labeling the Democrat a socialist. “I don’t know what’s next,” Obama, the presidential candidate, said at an outdoor rally in North Carolina. “By the end of the week, he’ll be accusing me of being a secret communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten. I shared my peanut butter and jelly sandwich.”

But if he really has nothing to do with socialism, why did the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America strongly recommend Obama for Congressman? New Ground 69 - Chicago Democratic Socialists of America:

Barak Obama is serving only his second term in the Illinois State Senate so he might be fairly charged with ambition, but the same might have be said of Bobby Rush when he ran against Congressman Charles Hayes. Obama also has put in time at the grass roots, working for five years as a community organizer in Harlem and in Chicago. When Obama participated in a 1996 UofC YDS Townhall Meeting on Economic Insecurity, much of what he had to say was well within the mainstream of European social democracy.

If anyone can recognize socialism, it would be the Democratic Socialists of America.

Of course, Obama himself admitted openly that he attended “socialist conferences” at Cooper Union, while he attended Columbia University:

He also admitted that he sought out Marxist professors:

And now he’s pulling the socialist wool over America’s eyes.

Speaking outside her home in Flaherty Way, South Boston, on Tuesday, Ms Onyango, 56, confirmed she was the “Auntie Zeituni” in Mr Obama’s memoir. She declined to answer most other questions about her relationship with the presidential contender until after the November 4 election. “I can’t talk about it, I just pray for him, that’s all,” she said, adding: “After the 4th, I can talk to anyone.”

The Times could not determine their immigration status and an official at Boston City Hall said that Ms Onyango was a resident of Flaherty Way but not registered to vote on the electoral roll. However, that Ms Onyango made a contribution to the Obama campaign would indicate that she is a US citizen. Records at the Boston City Hall confirmed Zeituni Onyango’s birthdate as May 29, 1952.

Illegal campaign contribution from an Obama family member?

That type of voter is unreachable -- the type who will sway the election (as they always do) are the non-ideological "undecideds." Those are the ones who need convincing.

The Libertarians have the same logic in this that the Stormfronters do, even though they have entirely differring ideologies for the most part. Both fringe groups like the idea of an Obama presidency because it might make them look more attractive.

Look, we're going to win most of the battleground states. Pennsylvania would be the icing on the cake but I'm not sure McCain can pull it off. Virginia is his. So are the Carolinas. Ohio and Indiana are probably safe too.

Colorado, NM and Utah -- these will be ground zero if McCain loses Pennsylvania.

So if you live in these states, try, try try to convince your fence-sitting neighbors and coworkers to vote for McCain. Every vote counts.

I got into a huge row here in SE CT with my sons high school teachers about his history text book. Seems the Chinese never intervened in the Korean war according to that book, and it was painted as American and South Korean aggression after North Korea launched an attack to "defend itself". I went to the PTA meeting and politely disagreed with his history text book, and offered to have my dad flown up to describe his time in Korea and being nearly overrun by about 500,000+ Chinese troops. They declined and my son learned a valuable lesson.

I hope Mitt comes back to run for governor again in 2 years. As for wanting to see Deval go, Yes, I want to see him go, but, not if it means he goes to a White House cabinet position. Posted this at the dead end of the 'guest list' thread, but I think it's relevant here:

I have an extended family member who is more or less a socialist. Here’s the thing: they are all cut from the same anti-Israel cloth. Obama may or may not have sat silent during a reading of poem that contained anti-Israel content, but it is no different from probably hundreds of conversations he had with his mentors and associates that trash Jews and their so-called “disproportionate responses”.
If anything, Obama’s response was more subdued due to the public nature of the event.
He spent his entire adult life associating with Marxists and socialists and then declared himself a “friend of Israel” because it was politically advantageous. Surely there were dozens, if not hundreds of private conversations where they drank their coffees and trashed Israel. It’s hip and cool, didn’t you know?
Obama has been entrenched in anti-Israel sentiment his entire adult life. This video is only literally just a snippet of the larger, uglier truth.

Also, funny how socialist supporters paint themselves as generous, but who are the real philanthropists? How much do they give to charity of their own free will, without being forced by the government? How do they take care of your extended family?

I wonder how true that is for how many people in this country - that one could lose their job or much of their income if it got out they vote GOP. In entertainment, the media, academia, etc.

And no one seems shocked or outraged that there is that sort of intimidation in this country.

175 Adina in Judea  Wed, Oct 29, 2008 4:42:16pm

Obama told Tom Brokaw in Meet the Press on July 27th:

And, and one thing I want to pick up on, because I think King, King Abdullah [of Jordan] is as savvy a analyst of the region and player in the region as, as there is, one of the points that he made and I think a lot of people made, is that we've got to have an overarching strategy recognizing that all these issues are connected. If we can solve the Israeli/Palestinian process, then that will make it easier for Arab states and the Gulf states to support us when it comes to issues like Iraq and Afghanistan.

It will also weaken Iran, which has been using Hamas and Hezbollah as a way to stir up mischief in the region. If we've gotten an Israeli/Palestinian peace deal, maybe at the same time peeling Syria out of the Iranian orbit, that makes it easier to isolate Iran so that they have a tougher time developing a nuclear weapon.

'Meet the Press' transcript for July 27, 2008

Obama has bought into the idea that Israel is the cause of all the various problems in the Middle East and that they could all be solved if Israel would agree to a peace agreement with the people who are determined NOT to make an agreement that would leave Israel standing.

The notion that all the wars and problems in the Middle East can only be solved by forcing Israel to make suicidal concessions is Obama's plan that would end Israel's existence [G-d forbid.]

Only the brain dead or the drug-addled watch the things any more cause the rest of us don't believe the shit that is being peddled mates! It's the same here, the only ones watching be those who are already decided Obamamaniacs. The more of the truth the undecided voters hear about Obama the less likely they are to vote for him. Also, funny how socialist supporters paint themselves as generous, but who are the real philanthropists? How much do they give to charity of their own free will, without being forced by the government? How do they take care of your extended family?

It is always easier to be generous with money or property that is not their own.

I am getting a little amused when I think of the Obama-infomercial and the money spent on it

It's a convenient way to launder vast sums of money out of the campaign funds and into...who knows where. Once allocated to the campaign, the dough is stuck there, unavailable for use as a slush fund and subject to a host of restrictions and auditing rules. Dump God knows how much into the bottomless bucket of Hollywood-style accounting, and you've suddenly got a tidy mountain of cash that doesn't exist on record anywhere.

Let's face it - the "infommercial" is a complete joke. It will enthrall those who are already committed to Obama, and everyone else is going to flip right past it in search of entertainment. I don't see a single mind being swayed by this effort. Which leaves money laundering as the most likely excuse for it.

It certainly doesn't indicate a candidate who will be restrained when it comes to spending.

All the ads and exposure sure sounds like the Hollywood technique of "four-walling"; taking a turkey of a production and hoping it recoups the cost by throwing up handbills on all four walls in a media blitz. Four-walling nearly never works except to further increase the debt of the production.

Wrong. He will get a very high grade, but the teacher will take away points so that they can be distributed to other kids who forgot to do the assignment. It's about fairness, don't you know.

A cult of personality is the creation of a heroic or godlike public image through mass media and propaganda. Cults of personality are usually found in dictatorships and backward nations. The main reason to create a cult of personality is to obtain undying devotion of the people. When people started worshiping Stalin as a god, he was given ultimate power. Through the cult of personality Stalin was able to set up his personal dictatorship and run unopposed and unquestioned. Due to the small number of people who did oppose him he had no problem killing them.

There are 4 main ways Stalin’s cult of personality was created:

* Censorship of anything that might reflect badly on Stalin
* Propaganda everywhere - pictures, statues, continuous praise and applause, Places named after him
* Word of mouth: Mothers taught their children that Stalin was ‘the wisest man of the age’
* History books and photographs were changed to make him the hero of the Revolution, and obliterate the names of purged people (e.g. Trotsky).

The main reason for propaganda was pretty much the same as that for the cult of personality, provided a better grip on power, but propaganda also had a wider range of uses:

* To establish a personal dictatorship
* To support, build and expand soviet power
* To attack enemies
* To control people
* To increase the war effort
* Create a feeling of unison

There were 7 main ways in which propaganda was spread:

1. Posters
2. Art
3. Literature
4. Film
5. News
6. Education
7. Youth groups

The arrogance of LA Times is beyond comprehension. They abandon any possible journalistic ethics in the same spirit as the 60 minute debacle by CBS. Their consummer advocate argues non-sense against those he advocates and the Times staff don't understand that their share-holders demand a profit and their jobs are at risk for the LA Times blatently un-ethical actions. Resulting in lost subscriptions by viewers demanding ethical treatment of valid political stories.
/Socialism = fair and balanced.

Let's face it - the "infommercial" is a complete joke. It will enthrall those who are already committed to Obama, and everyone else is going to flip right past it in search of entertainment. I don't see a single mind being swayed by this effort.

And if you're so fortunate as to have Dish Network, the One has bought an entire 'OBAMA' channel to run the infomercial 24/7.

I predict it has lower viewership than the TV Guide channel.

More:

The most effective form of propaganda was news reels:

* propaganda was be easily disguised and broadcast as news
* popularize and support the state and its decisions (ex. masked the failure of the 5 year plan)

Stalin deemed education to be a vital part of c being a communist, because if children are taught to be communists the brain washing is more effective. Stalin reformed the education system when he came to power. This reform was good for the people and made education more effective and accessible but I also contained some reforms that could be called introducing propaganda into the school system:

* Communism and Stalin were fused into most subjects
* Some subjects were rewritten Ex. history, Stalin was given a greater part in the revolution
* train young people for slots in the economic, social, political and cultural life of the state
* Uniforms were introduced to create the feeling on unity

Youth groups were another form of propaganda implemented on children:

* Children were instructed to follow the party’s ideas
* But also did fun activities
* Shared a common uniform to once again create a feeling on unity
* Youth groups were very popular
* most famous Russian youth group was Communist League of Youth
* over 9 million members
* Children from youth groups were frequently photographed with Stalin

The use of propaganda was vital for the creation of Stalin’s cult of personality and one of the more important parts if it was how Stalin associated himself with Lenin after his death:

* Stalin embalmed Lenin against his wives wishes
* Created a cult round Lenin's death despite Lenin's ideals
* Associated him self with Lenin
* Declared him self Lenin's natural successor

Stalin did all this so that he could then transfer Lenin’s cult of personality onto him self. He was successful and this brought about the era of Stalinization:

* Stalin was everywhere:
* Every house hold had a picture of Lenin and Stalin
* Constant parades were held in his honor
* Streets were filled with huge posters
* Stalin’s statues were raised everywhere

* He was given titles such as "Coryphaeus of Science," "Father of Nations," "Brilliant Genius of Humanity," "Great Architect of Communism," "Gardener of Human Happiness,"
* Soviet history rewritten to provide himself a more significant role in the revolution.
* Stalin was even included in the national anthem

To conclude:

* The Russian people shouldn’t be blamed for the atrocities that were that were made possible through their support of the regime and Stalin
* Continues propaganda effectively brain washed and clouded their judgment
* They truly believed that Stalin was unaware of the crimes on humanity that became so banal during his rule and though he really worked for their interest

Obama writes

He chose as his friends, he carefully chose as his friends Marxists, and others.

Because he disagreed with them so much?

"To avoid being mistaken for a sellout,..."
This phrase alone is very telling in that it implies - a man without character (aka empty-suit). What is a sellout? Choosing one side? Not sellingout is maybe choosing all sides?

Socialism involves collective ownership of the bread and the peanut butter, from which sandwiches are distributed equally.

Socialism involves the collective ownership of the right to distribute bread and peanut butter, both of which, curiously enough, are always in short supply.

I heard Limbaugh speculate today that the whole Obamercial thing could very well backfire, because his presence is nearing the point of overkill and many people might be put off by the excess of it all.

I didn't hear Rush say that, but I had been thinking the same thing. Its like "oh God, here is this guy again! Why does he have to buy a TV special? I don't remember this being done before. Isn't this a bit much? Is this just a con like an infomerical?"

re: #80 Ringo the Gringo

Last night I had a chat with a good friend of mine - a small busniess owner who does make over $250,000 - and I told him about all of Obama's connections to the hard Left and to anti-Israel fanatics. His response was basically, "Yeah, you might be right, but still I could never vote for a Republican".

The idea of voting for a Republican is so distasteful to him that he would literally vote for anyone other than a Republican.

Just goes to show you that even stupid people can experience the American dream of owning your own successful business. Maybe when he receives his Obama "tax bill" in the mail, he might wished he'd voted otherwise.

271 yah  Wed, Oct 29, 2008 5:20:37pm

Just nit picking. About that peanut butter and jelly sandwich: If he was in kindergarten he most likely did not work for the money to pay for the bread, peanut butter, or jelly. Nor did he make or package the sandwich. So he really did not value that sandwich.
And his Mom was getting food stamps.

Yeah, that happened about May 12 of this year. Here's what I have:

"In an interview with Jeffrey Goldberg for The Atlantic, Barack Obama
presents himself as the best friend Israel ever had.

Then he proceeds to call Israel a "constant sore" that "infects all of our
foreign policy:" Obama on Zionism and Hamas.

JG: Do you think that Israel is a drag on America's reputation overseas?

BO: No, no, no. But what I think is that this constant wound, that this
constant sore, does infect all of our foreign policy."

Don't have a link but it would probably show up if you google it

Here's a Haaretz reporter, back in May, trying to explain 0bama's remark.

This "infectious" imagery ought to give folks concern, considering the history, and Sen. 0bama's associations.

I don't understand why he's ridiculing this - I imagine most of Obama's supporters support socialism to varying degrees.

It's like... I'm not going to attack someone for being a self-made millionaire because that's not an insult. And to an Obama supporter, being a socialist isn't an insult, either, try as we may to make it one. Or atleast that's what I've come to believe.

279 Wily  Thu, Oct 30, 2008 3:03:58am

I have trouble with Obama's quote:

1) He didn't attend kindergarten. Kindergarten is a European-American concept. He attended "Taman Kanak-kanak" in Indonesia.

2) The issue is not about him sharing his toys. In the U.S., a child is allowed to share his toys as he pleases without being labeled a communist. It's when you want to dictate the terms of how other children share their toys that it becomes an issue.

3) I don't believe his contention that he shared his toys in Taman Kanak-kanak. His record of charitable contributions as an adult is not so impessive. Again, he's only inspired when it comes to other people's charity. And if his behavior as an adult is any measure of his inclinations as a child, I suppose he might have been more likely to share his toys with those that kids that chanted "God damn America."

Yes the Islamofascists are angry with the US for preventing them from destroying Israel and replacing it with an Islamic state. In Islam, Jews are to be held in an inferior position as dhimmis. And in Islamic eschatology, the Muslims believe that in the end times, the Muslms will fight the Jews and defeat and kill them. It is written in the hadiths, and enshrined in the charter of the terrorist group Hamas

"The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews)......"

But Hamas is part of the Muslim Brotherhood, whose goal it is to conquer the world. The Islamofascists will say thank you if the US and the rest of the world serves Israel up to them on a platter. They will be handing out candies to celebrate, but that won't be the end of it. Their appetites will not be satiated. The end goal is always the subjugation of the world under Islam.

Hamas: Islam will conquer US and Britain

Wake up Alert Obama
I share my toys or sandwiches with someone else voluntarily,
that is Judeo Christian love and charity;

I take someone else's toys and sandwiches, keep seventy percent for myself and give the rest to my favored clique and causes, in exchange for them voting for me to take more toys and sandwiches from the kids they are jealous of=Obamasocialism.

Please stop treating your audience like idiots. You didn't get on Harvard Law Review based on your looks. (Well, maybe you did, but you won't release your grades, so I can't tell which is true).
