Barack Obama's Multi-Million Dollar Infomercial

It’s the biggest ad buy in presidential campaign history, and it begins at 8pm on almost every channel in the universe. You already know what The One is going to say; we all do. Don’t expect any surprises.

We’re going to try to count the number of times the words “hope” and “change” are spoken or printed on screen. It may be impossible to keep up. A drinking game would be a bad idea; everyone would be under the table in the first five minutes.

Notice to All Employees

As of November 5, 2008, if Obama is elected into office, our company will instill a few new policies which are in keeping with his new, inspiring issues of change and fairness:

Why would he spend millions on the longest political advertisement in history if the election was a slam dunk, no question about it, so far ahead people will riot if he loses, why bother even voting if your are a Republican, landslide of a victory that even Reagan would be jealous of.

I waited in line for an hour and voted today. I thought that in NC, one had to register by Oct. 10, but they were yelling and asking if anybody needed to register to vote while I was in line. I saw two kids who looked to be no more that 15 voting. When I went in, all I had to do was give my name and address, after which they printed out a form and I signed. No ID whatsoever required.

I can see why he did. This will be the story for the next 24-48 hours, and then we go into the weekend with him presumably leading in the polls. It adds to the narrative that he has this election sewn up. Running that much time off the clock was worth every penny in his position.

It also underscores why something like this made little to no sense for Senator McCain.

I haven't read through all the comments here but I did watch the infomercial and here is my impression if anyone gives a crud. I tried to keep an open mind but good grief...
I was turned off by all the cry babies. I thought as I was watching this, yea, life sucks sometimes but we work our way out of it. What, they want people to identify with these folks and agree on their victim status?
And the old folks having trouble with medical bills....at 72 they qualify for medicare/medicaide for chrisssake. Why wasn't that mentioned or the assistance with drug programs.

So much of his policy as he stated it is contrary to what he has been preaching all along. It's as though he left out all the but's. (I'm going to rebuild the military, but first we are going to reduce funding and shut down programs and rebuild it smaller.) Scary to think that he can so willfully mislead.

I swear I heard him say "tap the National Oil Reserve" but not once said we are going to drill here for more. So we empty the Reserve and then what? Huh, What?!

In summary, it was a very down infomercial. Instead of celebrating what is great about America and pointing out how he's going to make it better, he pretty much pointed out all that is wrong and did everything but put on a crown and cape and assure us he was gonna save all our sorry butts. God Save America. Too many people are feeling too sorry for themselves.

Lastly, he began to give me the creeps. His ego and manipulative personality are astounding.

OK, I'm catching a snippet from O's infomercial on Hannity & Colmes. Did y'all notice he said I'll cut taxes for every working family under $200,000? What happened to the $250,000 for individuals? (no mention of that). I know he was trying to argue the difference between families and individuals, but it looks like this is the new *magic number* for everyone. I can't keep up with his and Plugs changing numbers.

I didn't watch, but all day, I've been thinking that this could very well be a mistake on Obama's part. Karl Rove said today that this was designed to make him look presidential, to surround himself with the trappings of the Office - much the way he tried to do it with his appearance in Germany.

Rove then mentioned what I have been thinking.

My instincts tell me that Americans have had just about enough of this guy being on television and radio every fifteen minutes, and they already think they know what he's about. It just feels like the kind of thing that is going to make Americans think he's just plain in their faces too much.

His "followers" will love it, but I doubt anyone else will. This could backfire.

One last thought: That reggae thing, the "Barack Obama be thy name" thing is just so damned creepy - the "worship him" 'tude around the world is starting to really weird me out.
