I was born in 1949. They used torture instruments back then. Big tongs to grab the head. And my mother had a mark in her skull from her delivery.

Germans as germs?

German Germ Fighter

Paul Ehrlich (14 March 1854 – 20 August 1915) was a German scientist in the fields of hematology, immunology, and chemotherapy, and Nobel laureate. He is noted for his research in autoimmunity, calling it "horror autotoxicus". He coined the term "chemotherapy" and popularized the concept of a "magic bullet". He is credited with the first empirical observation of the blood-brain barrier and the development of the first antibacterial drug in modern medicine. (via wiki)

From the Blue Jackets Manual - 1940 US Navy

Chapter 28

Personal Hygiene
General
.....Personal hygiene teaches us to keep both our minds and bodies healthy. It is easy for the mind to form a habit , even as other habits are formed. By keeping the mind occupied in the work assigned to you , by taking an interest in professional studies, by athletics and clean recreation, and by reading good books, you can develop your mind in a healthy manner. Smoking to excess, drinking intoxicating liquor, and associating with bad women can ruin you bodily health. Bad women are especially the cause of much grief, as promiscuous intercourse with them frequently results in loathsome diseases which not only often leave their effects on your system for the rest of your life, but also may be transferred by you to your future family with disastrous results. Sexual intercourse is positively not necessary for health and proper manly development.

Pretty much the same pitch in use through the '90's.

Brings back to mind a story my late father told me from his duty in WWII on the island of Tinian. He had no idea of how quickly the tropics could sunburn and got a bad case of it. He was threatened with a court martial for, destroying government property.

Oh, my, oh, my, oh, my. That one arm image was certainly, eh, suggestive. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed.

I'd like to see the government try to release posters like this nowadays, just for the fun of watching NOW's reaction to VD being the sole blame of loose women.
