No Sign of Taliban Fist Unclenching

World • Views: 2,721

We reach out, and beg, and offer deals to get them to unclench, and this is our thanks.

KABUL (Reuters) - Taliban insurgents reject a U.S. offer of “honorable reconciliation,” a top spokesman said on Wednesday, calling it a “lunatic idea” and saying the only way to end the war was to withdraw foreign troops. …

“This matter was also raised in the past,” said Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, referring to comments last month by Obama, who spoke of reaching out to moderate Taliban.

“They have to go and find the moderate Taliban, their leader and speak to them. This is a lunatic idea,” Mujahid said by telephone from an unknown location.

Well it was worth a try.

I also think we should invite the Taliban for a conference...

Hold it at Gitmo...

Too obvious?

And on a related note, Iran is rejecting the offer of unofficial talks. Why won't they unclench?!?

4 Leonidas Hoplite  Wed, Apr 1, 2009 12:52:54pm

I fear that these people will only unclench their fists long enough to get a stronger hold on the pistol grips of their weapons.

The Islamists don't want reconciliation. They want your submission. They want to impose their view of Sharia on everyone within their dominion and don't care how many people are murdered - how much blood is spilled - to accomplish that goal. It doesn't matter how many years or decade; they are in the long war, while the West still thinks that if they close their eyes and write letters - their goal of peace and stability will be attained.

Their leader will meet you with clenched fist, but you must propitiate him with fair words and noble gifts compatible with the playing format of that savage and untamed region. If you do so, his fist will unclench and he will offer you the flat backhand of friendship.

They gave the Queen pictures of herself and she gave them pictures of herself. What's so special about that?

I'm just glad they didn't give her signed pictures of themselves. I mean, she's been in office so long that from her, it has a bit more distinction. For Obama to do the same thing after only 75 days would have been laughable.

visit.

When it's boiled down to this, it seems like the Obama's got the bum's rush from the Queen.

During their private meeting, President Obama and first lady gave the queen a personalized iPod with video footage of her 2007 visit to Washington and Virginia. She was also given a rare songbook signed by composer Richard Rodgers.

In return the queen and her husband, Prince Philip, gave the Obamas signed portrait of themselves.

Dee Brown, all 5'10" (yeah ,,, right !) of him did it while with the Celtics in '91

I hate watching basketball, but I've always wondered why some professional team simply didn't do this:

Recruit one of those super-tall freaks, like the 8'+ Ukrainian guy who's still growing. Usually these characters can't run and have medical problems, but all you'd need to do is plant one next to the opponent's basket, just stand there, stationary. Then, play the whole game with 4 guys on 5. Your opponents will score a lot of baskets, but every time they do, just pass the ball down court to your man standing by the basket, and he just drops it in, 100% conversion rate. Meanwhile, your opponents won't make every basket -- you'll get some rebounds, and every time you do, heave it to your guy, drop, 2 more points.

Seems like a guaranteed way to win.

Surely the POTUS could not be so insufferably arrogant as to believe that one nicely turned phrase from his lips would declaw the Taliban beast.

Surely the POTUS must have known that the Taliban would spit on his outstretched hand.

And surely, his next move will soon be revealed in all its brilliance for the entire world to marvel at.

Surely./

Obamandias
--with apologies to Percy Bysshe Shelley

I met a traveler from the Potomac
Who said, two vast and countless piles of debt
Stand in the Congress. Near their bursting sacks
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose set
Uncomprehending expression of slack
Shows that the sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on that lifeless pan
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed.
On the pedestal these words are arranged;
"My name is Obamandias, Historic Man!
Look on my works, for I bring Hope and Change!"
Nothing beside remains. 'Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level Mall stretches away.

I thought I had done something similar recently. Thanks Charles for the useful LGF Search.

Obamandais?

In America's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:
"I am great OBAMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The President of USA; this mighty Country shows
"The wonders of my hand." The USA's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Washington.
We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragments huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

—with apologies to Horace Smith.

The three-second rule states an offensive player cannot be in the paint for more than three seconds unless they have the ball. So Mr. tall guy would have to "time" going in and out of the paint, which would give the defense the time to put a defender between him and the basket (or they could leave a defender back, making it 4-on-4 at the other end.

Really, did you expect the AP to be anything but slobbering over BHO & WAB?

The AP most of the time makes NWD look like a credible source.

Not sure how one can glean that she's a lesbian from that photo, but OK.

Hot girl. Had to have gone to college at some point.

Hmm. Could work. Yao is tall enough to try it.

But then the NBA would pass some kind of rule about it, outlaw it, have to bring everyone to the frontcourt in x seconds or get a technical.

OK, be fair and follow the link, cut and paste the slobbering part and post it. I am honestly curious about what you find is slobbering, I've read it twice now, and missed it .

The entire tone of the article is one of slobbering lust for the man. I am not one whit surprised you can not see it, you have your own man crush so strong it reeks.

Either way, as April Fools gags go, I like this one. Sarah is very easy on the eyes, and I do not mind being pranked in such a fashion. Nice one, Ed.

Still think this is some fucking April Fool's joke, or have you moved the goal posts yet again after getting your head handed to you?

Cmon man, OTUS got an A for his flight. Check this out.

George Stephanopoulos: “Barack Obama arrived at the G-20 summit just hours ago, too soon for a real assessment of his diplomacy. But, Diane, the flight over the Atlantic was just spectacular. Our pool correspondent tells us there was very little turbulence, the food was delicious, and the view of London on the approach was magnificent. So, I’m giving the President an ‘A’ for this trip — if he can keep this up over the next couple of days, it’s going to be a very successful summit.”

Want to join me in asking for a fucking break? ; )

Sorry, I missed the slobbering in that report, just seemed like a bland, play by play of the visit. Where was the slobbering ? There is a lot of slobbering in the MSN, but that link was pretty bland.

How about this one?

He'd have to stay out of the paint-but it'd only take 1 guard covering, with speed to steal the ball and counter every pass-or risk many going out of bounds from high lobs. Shaq and Yao aren't the fleetest or most co-ordinated, just big-and coaches aren't stupid......

“They have to go and find the moderate Taliban, their leader and speak to them. This is a lunatic idea,” Mujahid said by telephone from an unknown location.

Yep. When the Taliban can legitimately call our leaders "lunatics," I think we might have to back the truck up. In President Obama's defense, however, I think "lunatic" is a bit harsh. How about "obtuse?"

290 eaglewingz08  Wed, Apr 1, 2009 2:47:07pm

You have to make the appeaser really really want to do some appeasing and to give you much shinier presents than he would if you just 'caved in' immediately upon his taking office. I mean it took Salome's dance of the seven veils to get John's head on a platter, the Iranians and talibani are looking for some heads on a platter, so they will be quite patient while Mr. Obama acts like the 'persistent' suitor.

291 AZDave  Wed, Apr 1, 2009 2:59:18pm
We reach out, and beg, and offer deals to get them to unclench...

Do you think that maybe a colonic cleansing would help? Or maybe just send a cruise missile up their ass?

292 Pupdawg  Wed, Apr 1, 2009 3:35:08pm

Obamba should also blame, and apologize for, the USA to the Taliban like he did today to Europe and the world for the current world economic crisis. He said a great deal of the world's economic woes rests with America. Blame America first and always according to Obama and his ilklings.

Some deathly sick stuff!

Taliban insurgents reject a U.S. offer of “honorable reconciliation...calling it a “lunatic idea” ...

What does it say about the country when some filthy islamist bastard, speaking from his lice/cholera infested, crap stinking cave displays more common sense than our commander and chief/secretary of state?

295 Pupdawg  Wed, Apr 1, 2009 3:40:39pm

"Lunatic idea"...stay tuned Talibaners and people of the world in general as we have a POTUS who is full of them.

No reconciliation. I guess will just have to kill them all then.

Australian forces kill senior Taliban leader: Defence
The Defence Department says Australian soldiers have killed a senior Taliban leader in a joint operation with Afghan forces.

Defence says Mullah Abdul Bari was responsible for orchestrating suicide bombings, spreading the use of improvised explosive devices, and helping to train foreign fighters in the restive Uruzgan province.

Joint Operation chief Lieutenant General Mark Evans said Bari's death would severely disrupt insurgent activity in the province.

“They have to go and find the moderate Taliban,”

If they run when you shoot at them they are moderate. If they stand still they are hard core Taliban.
