This OMLT consists mostly of short soldiers in 3 Company from the Welsh Guards. They are short because the tall soldiers are sent to the Prince of Wales Company, while the short ones, called “Little Iron Men,” are sent to 3 Company.

Texan fundamentalist mind-rot being sold as A-level "education" in UK.
[Link: www.hurryupharry.org...]
Apartheid, yes. Evolution, no. That’s one of the conclusions of a strange and disturbing Evangelical Christian school curriculum developed in Texas imported into Britain.
Around 50 Christian schools in the UK, as well as scores of home-schooled pupils, are taught from text books which claim, among other things:
* the Loch Ness monster, which “appears to be a plesiosaur” from photographs, helps to disprove evolution;
* apartheid was beneficial to South Africa; reasons include the claim that segregated schools “made it possible for each group to maintain and pass on their culture and heritage to their children”;
* “unquestionable proofs” and “unarguable evidences” existed for creationism.Pupils are also apparently taught that Noah’s Ark was real and that AIDS sufferers are ’sinners’.
Only half of their time is spent learning bona fide academic subjects. The other half of their time is spent studying scripture and ‘learing’

Lovely.
This is anything but education - this is brain damage.
An extract from the TES link in the piece:
Are dinosaurs alive today? Scientists are becoming more convinced of their existence.Have you heard of the ‘Loch Ness Monster’ in Scotland? ‘Nessie,’ for short has been recorded on sonar from a small submarine, described by eyewitnesses, and photographed by others. Nessie appears to be a plesiosaur.
Could a fish have developed into a dinosaur? As astonishing as it may seem, many evolutionists theorize that fish evolved into amphibians and amphibians into reptiles. This gradual change from fish to reptiles has no scientific basis. No transitional fossils have been or ever will be discovered because God created each type of fish, amphibian, and reptile as separate, unique animals. Any similarities that exist among them are due to the fact that one Master Craftsmen fashioned them all.”

This is apropos of nothing, but there's a great passage in one of Brendan Behan's books where a Royal Navy seaman, after the end of WWII, is desperately trying to get home, and he learns that they'll discharge you from the U.S. Navy if you're gay.
He goes to his CO and explains that he's having lustful thoughts about the guy in the opposite bunk. The CO says he can't recall the young man in question, forcing the fellow to give a loving description of this jerk who leaves his dirty socks around. Then he tells him that yes, he recalls Smith, nice-looking lad, can't blame you for fancying him, and recommends cold showers and concentrating on work a bit more.
The seaman is NOT pleased.

O.T. Chrysler July sales improve with CFC, but still down from last year due to the weak market for Ram trucks.
"AUBURN HILLS, MI - August 3, 2009: Chrysler Group LLC total sales up 30 percent compared with previous month.
-- Five vehicles set new monthly sales records for July
-- Jeep Patriot sales increase 134 percent compared with previous year
-- Dodge Caliber sales up 63 percent versus July 2008
-- Chrysler PT Cruiser sales up 24 percent compared with previous year
-- Mopar posted a U.S. sales increase of 9 percent compared with June 2009
-- U.S. Government "CARS" program and Chrysler Group incentive program drives consumers to Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealers
The increased consumer traffic was driven by interest in the U.S. Government CARS program, more commonly known as "Cash for Clunkers" and Chrysler Group's easy-to-understand incentive program.
"The government's program is doing what it is designed to do-spur consumers to trade in older gas guzzlers for new, fuel-efficient vehicles," said Peter Fong, President and Chief Executive Officer-Chrysler Brand and Lead Executive for the Sales Organization, Chrysler Group LLC. "While we don't expect the industry sales forecast to change dramatically, we are seeing encouraging signs that consumer confidence is building, and more consumers are considering purchasing a new vehicle."

re: #73 avanti
The Jeep Patriot was introduced in 2007. So was the Dodge Caliber. These were new model introductions, so the 2009 version would be the second year for both vehicles. To claim that it had such huge sales is misleading. After all, it went from 0 sales two years prior.
PT Cruiser sales are a nice jump, and indicates part of a reason why the company decided not to can the PT cruiser after the 2009 model year.

Also, the month to month sales figures show a massive dip due to the bankruptcy uncertainties, and the recovery from the dips show that some of the sales are coming back - however year over year shows that the sales are still down significantly.

Here's all you need to acknowledge
A) even though the 200,000 cars sold under the CFC program are a small fraction of total new car sales in a year
1) they "jump started" the industry
2) dealers are out of stock because of it (not because of production cuts and 4-6 weeks of plant closures
Stick to the talking pionts, please

I know what you mean about pronunciation...we once had a new guy announce over the 1MC that we were in the Strait of Juan de Fuca...and pronounced it the way you think, not the way it is...Said same Seaman also threw a monkey fist off the bow as we were mooring up in Victoria, BC. (Esquimalt) and managed to hit the car of the Canadian base Commander, which was parked on the pier, breaking the windshield...ahhh good times.

Yes, Chrysler is still down 9% from last year, but a big improvement from over 40%. Ford is actually up, and that's better then most of the imports.

Then perhaps you have an amazing number of very small files, where you run not out of space, but out of available directory slots. Which is hard to believe, but not impossible. Have you emptied the trash, hard-delete, defrag, all that stuff? Defrag especially can free up nodes (I think) by allowing discontiguous file frags which each require a node to exist as a single piece. I think.

It's moving cars
200,000 of them
but at what cost?
200,000 X's $4,500 equals 900 MILLION of our dollars at a time when we have NO money
Do some math. 200,000 people get new cars. THEY benefit. 25,000 car dealers across the country sell 12-15 cars more this year than they "normally" would
SO ,, about 225,000 people GAIN at the cost of 304 MILLION people

What? Is that a real poll number?
Several people posted links to this yesterday. I think it was a Rasmussen poll - which, of course, will be used as an excuse to ignore it, if true, ignoring the huge percentages in favor of denial - but I don't recall; I never followed the link. The results just didn't surprise me that much; I spent a huge amount of time on another forum chipping away at trooferism, and the most disturbing thing about it was the vast number who bought into such bilge and continued to argue that it was true after every scrap of "factual" evidence they tossed up was proven to be wrong.
Never forget that, statistically speaking, half of the population is below average.

Also, these sales improvement numbers are being measured against the same period last year - when the auto industry was already deeply in the tank. They're still not anything to cheer about. Ford's are the best by far - they show an increase in sales of 1.6% over last July's numbers. But last July's numbers were down 15% over the previous year's figures. GM and Chrysler, meanwhile, are showing, well, smaller losses than last year. But they're still bleeding money, even after clearing the decks of debt and contractual obligations they were hamstrung by in the past; Chrysler was only able to pull off this feat by doubling the discount, taking $9000 - more than half - off the price of it's eligible vehicles in order to move them. They are losing money on every car they sell and their sales are still shrinking.
Show me a quarter or two of solid improvement, and I'll start to believe a turnaround has arrived. Keep the CFC program going that long, however, and you're shoveling dollars into an inflationary furnace, building that $4500 into the price of every vehicle sold, in the same way that the rebates demanded by consumers simply boost the asking price.
