John Birch Society to Cosponsor CPAC 2010

If anyone is still wondering why I want absolutely nothing to do with what the so-called “conservative” movement has become, please note that one of the cosponsors for the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in 2010 will be … the antisemitic, racist, conspiracy theory-promoting John Birch Society. There are plenty of other extreme right wing groups on their cosponsor list too, but the addition of the Birchers puts the frosting on the cake: Conservative Political Action Conference Cosponsors.

There was a time when this lunatic hate group was marginalized and shoved out to the fringes, as they deserved, but people like Glenn Beck and Ron Paul have been working hard at bringing them back to the mainstream — and now here they are at CPAC.

I’d say “unbelievable,” but it’s sadly all too believable. The right wing is completely off the rails, over the cliff, and plunging toward the rocks. Disgusting.

UPDATE at 12/16/09 11:42:26 am:

And at the same time, the “Liberty Council” (it’s in quotes because this is a theocratic group that actually believes in the exact opposite of liberty) is threatening to pull out of CPAC if homosexual group GOProud remains as a cosponsor. (Content warning: the link goes to Google’s cache of a really ugly homophobic right wing site.)

So they’re fine with racists and conspiracy mongers, but want to purge the gay people.

UPDATE at 12/16/09 1:21:27 pm:

Also note Sarah Palin’s apparent connection to the John Birch Society: The magazine on her desk in this photo is the official publication of the JBS.
