RNC Cancels Breitbart Fundraiser

Wingnuts • Views: 3,209

And now the Republican National Committee is slowly backing away from Breitbart.

Washington (CNN) – The Republican National Committee has cancelled a fundraiser with conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart, who is under fire for promoting an edited video that falsely portrays former Agriculture Department employee Shirley Sherrod as having boasted about discriminating against a white farmer looking for her assistance.

Breitbart was scheduled to appear with RNC Chairman Michael Steele at a reception later this month in Beverly Hills.

“We are working on scheduling and we fully plan to have another event scheduled soon based on our existing trips to California,” an RNC spokesman said in a statement sent to CNN.

Many steps back, and a now good couple inches forward. Crawl then walk I guess.

Yeah, I notice that they just didn’t say “Stay away Breitbart”, but rather cancelled the whole event, thus at least pro forma giving them a reason other than the odor of Breitbart.

Ha, can you say damage control.

The spokesman said the fundraiser was cancelled “To better capitalize on the fall fundraising season that happens post-Labor Day, while also lowering costs by utilizing existing trips to California.”

Yeah, ok…

We are working on scheduling (that doesn’t include hacks) and we fully plan to have another event scheduled soon (without the hack) based on our existing trips to California (that doesn’t include said hack),” an RNC spokesman said in a statement sent to CNN.

Breitbart to get RNC invite
California event rescheduled, not canceled

“I don’t know Andrew Breitbart’s schedule for after Labor Day, but he certainly will be invited,” RNC Communications Director Doug Heye said, reiterating that the event “has been postponed,” rather than canceled as CNN reported.

Shit, that’s even worse. “We’re not canceling, we’re just postponing. It has nothing to do with wanting this Sherrod fiasco to fade from voter memories, it’s just that we’re having…trouble with our schedules…yeah, that’s the ticket.”

For the party to regain some level of sanity, they’d have to cast out the Tea Partiers and the far-Right, something I don’t think they’re prepared to do at this time. It will take a sound thrashing at the polls for them to realize that such crazies are weighing down the party’s prospects, something we may have to wait until 2012 to see.

I think the dumbest thing about Brietbart’s hit piece is that her full message packed enough of a punch that if he just reported her conclusions he would have been way further ahead. He missed the bigger story while creating one out of thin air. Imagine someone going in front of the NAACP and telling them after fighting in the trenches she has come to the realization the big struggle isn’t about race, its about the haves versus the have nots. Now thats news.
He sliced and diced the video to craft a different, less compelling, red meat storyline when an even bigger story was right out there up front.

That’s what I’m gettin’ at, I think it’s gonna take an Obama second term for the GOP to realize that the Tea Party and its fellow travelers are a hindrance more than an asset. Way I figure it, even a middling turn out this November will be heralded by the TPers as proof that the country is wanting to go even farther to the Right, even further over the edge. That’s going to be the drive behind the GOP candidates come 2012: Courting the TP vote while trying (and failing badly) to win over the independent and liberal voters. So that in Nov 2012, the GOP’s gonna find itself watching as “the worst president in history” goes on to a second term despite the “Second American Revolution” BS.

He’s there as an attempt by the GOP to rehabilitate their image as the “Old White Guy Party” in the face of Obama’s presidency. But knowing they couldn’t afford to piss off their base, they picked the most spineless, incompetent candidate they could find. You’re right, he’s a figurehead, nothing more.

Heh, as if we needed more evidence of the stupidity of the tea partying right, let’s look at the latest headline story at Townhall:

Racism and the Small Business Jobs Act

[…]

Clearly, Spanish might be required for the large Spanish-speaking population of entrepreneurs in the U.S. which comprise 40% of small businesses. Perhaps Ebonics for the African-Americans who comprise 28% of small business owners? What about Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese? Asian businesses have grown to 28%. But, if Congress were to be fair and unbiased, then should financial institutions also consider advertising in Hindi, and Arabic? What about Swedish or Polish or Russian or German?

[…]

That’s right, just as people from historically Spain-conquered countries speak Spanish, Koreans speak Korean, Swedes speak Swedish, Poles speak Polish, Germans speak German… African-Americans speak “Ebonics”.

Classy, real classy.

Gringrich, assuming he decides that running for the presidency is in the cards, will be an also-ran. At worst, he’ll drop out within a few weeks, heading for the hills with the media hot on his heels. At best, he’ll survive up until Iowa, where he’ll be sharing a spot next to Ron Paul on the back bench. Here’s Gingrich’s take on Terry Schiavo, apparently the Republican mistake was in not comparing her to a convicted murderer and playing up the bullshit abuse allegations enough (severe hypocrisy alert):

The challenge with the Schiavo case wasn’t what they did; it was how they did it. If we had a 6 or 8 week build-up and the country had understood that if you’re a convicted murderer, you get to appeal from the state court to make sure that your rights as an American have been protected — and all that they were trying to do was insure that families in conflict situations on behalf of an innocent person would have the same right to have a review of their situation that a convicted murderer has — I think the country would have shrugged and said, “Well, that makes sense,” and not worried about it.

The way it happened was so startling, it looked like such an over-reaction on behalf of one case, that I think people thought they had lost their sense of perspective. So I think the way they did it was actually more controversial than what they were doing, if, in fact, they had explained what they were doing.

John Hawkins: So basically it was a good idea, but they just didn’t explain…..

Newt Gingrich: I mean, if you’re asking me – in situations where there’s a conflict, over the life of a human being and where the state is, in effect, being asked to eliminate that person’s chances of living, should it be possible to have judicial review beyond a local judge who may or may not be prejudiced, it seems to me that’s pretty self-evident. Because you’re talking about a very peculiar set of circumstances and in situations where the whole family agrees this would never come up, but here you had an allegation by the parents that the husband was systematically trying to block her recovery by putting her at risk. Does that make sense?

John Hawkins: Yes.

Newt Gingrich: You need to recognize that we’re now entering a time of medical knowledge where the state in the form of the law is in effect making life and death decisions and having a bias in favor of life and in favor of caution strikes me as very reasonable because you know historically that there have been cases where people have manipulated the thing to kill somebody for insurance or to kill somebody for property. I think you have to establish a balance there.

I don’t like BO…I can’t stand John McCain, and GB really turned me away after 06…looking at the GOP is a seriously flawed joke, there is nobody there, just smoke and mirrors…I’m getting a major concerned again about the quality of leadership in this country…everybody has baggage, everybody is dirty, everybody is in the game for the exact wrong reasons….to me it’s a hell of a lot less about parties than the assumption that our elected officials will serve the people then move on after their time….we are fucked, there is no way out…the electorate is just too stupid

How do you qualify for being ‘better’ at English than another English-speaking nation?

In this guy’s case, by being really drunk.

One of the bi-products of the internet age. Everyone’s an “author”. Being rude or over the top seems to be the SOP.

Although I suppose Vidal and Buckley almost getting into a fist fight was over the top.

Mitt, Huckabilly, Palin, Jindal, Newt, Tancredo - I’m not voting for any of them. I can’t think of a viable GOP candidate who’s had any face time I would vote for, because they’ve already outed themselves as nuts, racists, idiots, fundies, homophobes, birthers, climate change deniers, or a combination of all. More importantly, they’ve all remained silent while their party’s been railroaded by the aforementioned. In fact, many support those causes, and are happy to see it running toward the extremist side of the spectrum.

Was just guessing as Mitt seems to be about as “middling” as a candidate can get these days…

True enough, but like I said, he might as well have “Mormon” tattooed on his forehead, because that’s all the Right needs to know to oppose him.

I’m curious to see if someone like Paul Ryan might run, as what I’ve seen of him so far leads me to believe he’s a fairly moderate Republican with a good head on his shoulders.

And Pawlenty. I still think Romney is the best in that list. I know he’s got a lot of baggage but less so than the others. I wouldn’t even put him in the same category as that nut Tancredo. I’m speaking of one were to choose from there and wanted to vote for a Republican.

Seriously though, I think this gentleman falls into the category of “America does everything better than every other nation in the world, so they should all go fuck themselves.”

While sometimes true, I think people can go a little overboard with that. Like every other country in the world is a backward shit-hole that does nothing right and has never had a good idea or invention. Like I said, he then trashed the metric system. I told him it was better because it is more logical and easier to learn and use, especially for kids. He dismissed me with a wave of his hand.

People sitting alone in bars love to talk politics. As a part-time bartender, it is sometimes fun and sometimes annoying.

Gotta go. See you folks later.

Ditto on Pawlenty. There’s so many, it’s hard to keep track. And those are just the A-listers. Second tier B-listers you get Bachmann, etc.

Drudge was a site I was checking on pretty consistently for a long time whether or not he was pissing me off. But he and Breitbart are too powerful. Gone from my Chrome thumbnails and I can’t say my life is impoverished over the last few days, I can check the news without his help. They don’t deserve an iota of success.

Sweet. Nothing says, “HE AIN’T ONE OF US!!11ty!” quite like the phrase “working on scheduling and we fully plan to have another event scheduled soon”…
