Breaking: Al Qaeda Plot to Bomb US-Bound Jet Foiled by CIA

Underwear Bomb 2.0
Terrorism • Views: 18,629

An Associated Press notification just received on my iPhone:

Breaking (4:04PM EDT): Sources: CIA foils Al Qaida bomb plot against US-bound jet near anniversary of bin Laden death.

No details available yet…

UPDATE at 5/7/12 2:17:29 pm

Al Qaeda has apparently upgraded their underwear.

The CIA foiled a plot by al-Qaida’s affiliate in Yemen to bomb a U.S.-bound airliner around the one-year anniversary of the killing of its former leader Osama bin Laden, senior U.S. officials told NBC News.

Officials said the plot involved a bomb with a design that upgraded the underwear bomb taken aboard a jetliner over Detroit on Christmas 2009. That explosive device failed to detonate.

The improved bomb had a more refined detonation mechanism, but was still intended to be hidden in a passenger’s underwear. Officials told NBC News the device was “totally non-metallic,” which would have made it more difficult to detect by traditional screening processes.

An official told NBC News no airlines were ever at risk. The plot was disrupted well before it threatened Americans or U.S. allies, the official added.

Once again, the Obama administration has failed to stop terror attacks because the CIA stopped one under his watch.

It is Obama's fault god damn it! If he wouldn't have gotten all uppity by keeping his promise and getting bin laden then there would be no anniversary for the terrorists to try and bomb us on. That's why George Bush let bin laden live!!!Eleventy

US: CIA thwarts new al-Qaida underwear bomb plot

The operation unfolded even as the White House and Department of Homeland Security assured the American public that they knew of no al-Qaida plots against the U.S. around the anniversary of bin Laden's death. The AP learned about the thwarted plot last week but agreed to White House and CIA requests not to publish it immediately because the sensitive intelligence operation was still under way. Once those concerns were allayed, the AP decided to disclose the plot Monday despite requests from the Obama administration to wait for an official announcement Tuesday.

OBAMA LIED! CENSORSHIP! ELEVENTY!!!111!1!

The group has suffered significant setbacks as the CIA and the U.S. military focus more on Yemen. On Sunday, Fahd al-Quso, a senior al-Qaida leader, was hit by a missile as he stepped out of his vehicle along with another operative in the southern Shabwa province of Yemen.[Link: hosted.ap.org...]

Nice shot.

'U.S. officials say the plot involved an upgrade of the underwear bomb that failed to detonate aboard a jetliner over Detroit on Dec. 25, 2009. This new bomb was also built to be used in a passenger's underwear but contained a more refined detonation system.'

I'm thrilled A) that this plot was foiled and B) that I am not planning on flying anywhere in the next few months, so as to let Security Theater v. 12.5.2.7 ooze its way through the system.

re: #10 Kragar

So, that may mean that the embargo on this particular report was somehow connected to the UAV airstrike that took out one of the USS Cole bombers, Fahd al-Quso, who was affiliated with al Qaeda in Yemen. They may have held off on wanting to release the news until they had Quso, rather than tipping him off that we got his guy before he could carry out the aircraft attack.

18 Killgore Trout  Mon, May 7, 2012 1:50:27pm

Anybody want to take bets on what items are going to be banned from airplanes as a result of this?

They've already banned liquids from airplanes. Maybe they should go ahead and ban solids and gasses, just to be safe.

Anybody want to take bets on what items are going to be banned from airplanes as a result of this?

Asses.

23 Tumulus11  Mon, May 7, 2012 2:01:54pm
'The FBI is examining the latest bomb to see whether it could have passed through airport security and brought down an airplane, officials said. They said the device did not contain metal, meaning it probably could have passed through an airport metal detector. But it was not clear whether new body scanners used in many airports would have detected it.'

[...]

'It is not clear who built the bomb, but, because of its sophistication and its similarity to the Detroit bomb, authorities suspected it was the work of master bomb maker Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri. Al-Asiri constructed the first underwear bomb and two others that al-Qaida built into printer cartridges and shipped to the U.S. on cargo planes in 2010.

Both of those bombs used a powerful industrial explosive. Both were nearly successful.'
// AP

. Al Qaeda is still a threat. Credit, again, to Pres. Obama.

I doubt we'll be allowed to carry anything but a book soon and maybe not that.

I feel for the airlines. I really do. The measures taken are a major pain for everyone involved -- and the sheer number of TSA agents makes it impossible that they are all honorable.

Ok I'll try:

This is all a plot set up by Obama and his Muslim friends so he can look good by "foiling an attack" in the months leading up to the election. According to my trusted sources, George Soros provided the funding for the entire operation!

An Interplanetary GPS Using Pulsar Signals
Spacecraft could determine their position anywhere in the solar system to within five kilometres using signals from x-ray pulsars, say astronomers. Navigating in space is a tricky business. The usual method relies on Earth-based tracking stations to work out a spacecraft's distance using radio waves, a process that is accurate to within a metre or so. That's fine for the radial distance, but ...

4 Reasons ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ Is Secretly About Drugs
Nice, right? Anyway, here's my thesis: Raiders of the Lost Ark is not an action-adventure movie about an archaeologist who plays by his own rules and saves the day. Instead, the film is an exploration of Marion Ravenwood's crippling drug addiction. An addiction that was born from her unhealthy relationship and continued association with Indiana Jones. Is it true? Who cares. Can I prove ...
