GOP Denounces Todd Akin, but Enshrines His Caveman Views in Their 2012 Platform

Who do they think they’re fooling?
Politics • Views: 19,436

Sure, practically every Republican politician in America is denouncing Todd Akin, but as usual with Republicans, what they say is meaningless. It’s what they do that counts.

And in Tampa, the Republican platform committee has rejected rape exceptions in the 2012 party platform.

TAMPA, Fla. — Even as Mitt Romney sought to quash the furor surrounding Todd Akin’s “legitimate” rape comments, the Republican platform committee here approved an abortion plank that includes no exemptions for rape, incest or even to save the life of the mother.

The platform committee instead approved draft language Tuesday, calling for a “Human Life Amendment” that gives legal protection to the unborn. Democrats quickly labeled the GOP language the “Akin Plank,” referring to the Missouri Senate candidate’s statements that victims of “legitimate rape” rarely get pregnant.

On Tuesday, not one of the 100-plus members on the GOP platform committee introduced amendments. They kept the identical language from 2004 and 2008.

All of this anger and disapproval directed at Akin is nothing but a charade. Todd Akin’s views on abortion are the mainstream GOP’s views.

And as Michael Steele points out, Mitt cannot afford to argue with any of this if he wants peace and quiet in da house

I just love that "Human Life Amendment" title. Guess women aren't human in their eyes when it's just fine if they die.

Well, yeah. They're not pissed at him for his repulsive ideas. They're pissed that he had the gall to say them out loud.

McCaskill has a chance at a comeback now, and people are seeing the GOP for what it really is -- a bunch of sexist, retrograde, misogynist assholes who are more concerned with winning elections than the basic human dignity of half the population.

By use of these personhood amendments, the GOP is giving the right of a zygote or embryo, let alone fetus, greater rights than those of any woman has over her own body.

And how often do you hear a Republican of note publicly object to a single one of these platform planks? Not very damned often. And even if they object to a line item, they'll gladly fall into line as necessary.

If you vote for a Republican, you're voting for these positions. No abortion at all, ever. No new taxes... except for war, natch. Audit the Fed!!!1 Get those damned women out of combat; any current female combat veterans have been a failed social experiment.

This is what you're voting for.

Yep. A woman's entire agency and autonomy is immediately lost once she gets pregnant according to these assholes.

I can't understand how people don't see that.

Failed social experiment, according to the GOP:

Female medic, 19, earns Silver Star in Afghan war

Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown saved the lives of fellow soldiers after a roadside bomb tore through a convoy of Humvees in the eastern Paktia province in April 2007, the military said.

After the explosion, which wounded five soldiers in her unit, Brown ran through insurgent gunfire and used her body to shield wounded comrades as mortars fell less than 100 yards away, the military said.

"I did not really think about anything except for getting the guys to a safer location and getting them taken care of and getting them out of there," Brown told The Associated Press on Saturday at a U.S. base in the eastern province of Khost.

Brown, of Lake Jackson, Texas, is scheduled to receive the Silver Star later this month. She was part of a four-vehicle convoy patrolling near Jani Kheil in the eastern province of Paktia on April 25, 2007, when a bomb struck one of the Humvees.

I expect the GOP "Platform" to form a committee to address the question of how many Angels can dance on the head of a pin. That ought to create a few jobs.

Careful. One obvious answer to such a silly and meaningless question would be to ban dancing.

An attempt:

Senator Scott Brown today launched another high profile attempt to demonstrate his independence from the Republican Party platform, sending a letter to GOP leaders urging them “to recognize in its platform that you can be pro-choice and still be a good Republican.”

A reaction:

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins basically told Scott Brown to check himself before he wrecks himself after the Massachusetts senator condemned Todd Akin's "legitimate rape" remarks and urged the Missouri pol to give up his bid for Claire McCaskill's Senate seat. "He should be careful because based on some of his statements there may be some call for him to get out of his race," Perkins said Monday. "He has been off the reservation on a number of Republican issues, conservative issues I should say. His support among conservatives is very shallow."

Presumably the goal is to win 38% of legitimate Latinos.

They see it, but they don't care. The "baby" takes precedence over everything and the woman should just suck it up and carry it to term because it's her own damn fault that she got pregnant in the first place.

He's a liar because I went to the Iowa State website, typed in "multicultural" and didn't get any groups popping up. I went to the multicultural student section and couldn't find any groups. I then searched for "zeitgeist" and there were no results returned.
