Snowden’s Russian Welcome Wearing Out

The leaker who stayed too long
World • Views: 27,682

Not good news for Edward Snowden, because at this point it looks as if no country in this world will commit to granting him asylum: Russia Increasingly Impatient Over Snowden’s Airport Stay.

(Reuters) - Edward Snowden should find another country to seek refuge, a Russian official said on Thursday, signaling Moscow’s growing impatience over the former U.S. agency spy contractor’s lengthening stay at a Moscow airport.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Russia had received no request for political asylum from Snowden and he had to solve his problems himself after 11 days in the transit area of Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport.

[…]

Moscow has also made clear that Snowden is an increasingly unwelcome guest because the longer he stays, the greater the risk of the diplomatic standoff over his fate causing lasting damage to relations with Washington.

“He needs to choose a place to go,” Ryabkov told Reuters. “As of this moment, we do not have a formal application from Mr Snowden asking for asylum in the Russian Federation.”

He’s becoming an embarrassment to to Russians. They want him gone. Vlad is probably regretting even letting him get off the plane.

Well played Mr. President. Well played indeed.

Happy 4th of July, Charles…between Snowden’s short-sighted flight plans and Greenwald’s meltdown of insecurity, it’s a happy one indeed.

Vlad has the power to put him on any plane he wants and ship his ass to whatever country he wants…sans passport, so he’ll be arrested at customs when he lands. That’s how I hope this plays out. Send him somewhere like India, that doesn’t really want him, or better yet, New Zealand…coach.

That’s what I am hoping for. Since no one wants him, put his ass on a plane right back to the U.S. Hell I don’t think even the North Koreans would take him at this point. He is that radioactive.

Kim Jong Un is probably the one person on the planet who would welcome him with open arms. But he’d want to play with him…and that’s just weird.

$1.1 million in vodka stolen

Continuing the Russian theme,

Posted that earlier today. They knocked a hole in the wall right where the vodka was stored, didn’t set off any alarms, had time to bring larger truck in to haul it off. Add to that the fact they only make it in a limited amount and the shipment was insured. Also add to the fact, they didn’t take anything else.

Insurance fraud?

Technically, it isn’t even vodka, and even though imported through MarkLee Enterprises, LLC, probably isn’t made in Russia. Part of a review: ” The label even reads vodka, red wine, brandy, natural flavors, and caramel color. Don’t get me wrong it doesn’t taste bad, but for $250, not worth it on the least bit.”

That’s kinda popular in some parts around here. I see upside down flag stickers on cars along with FBO oval stickers, liberal hunting licences and old faded Bush/Cheney or Romney/Ryan, even the occasional McCain/Palin stickers. I Want My Country Back is another one. Metro Atlanta is a weird place. My African American neighbors say they’re “Independent Democrats” but they have a huge Paul Broun for Senate sign in their yard. Like I said, weird.

Well played Mr. President. Well played indeed.

Vlad let him in at the time because he could use it to tweak our nose, earn him some street cred for being a supporter of “free speech.” But Snowden’s not going anywhere fast, he explicitly turned down the offer to seek asylum in Russia, and the damage he’s doing to relations is not easily overcome.

I think it’s going to eventually come down to Vlad saying “Fuck this” and putting him on the first plane out. Like him being somebody else’s problem.

Snowden has a track record of doing stupid things. I could see him take up Putin’s offer and then try and flee across the Russian border.
