Kerry Says US Will Stop Drone Strikes in Pakistan

“We have eliminated most of the threat”
World • Views: 25,873

One of the most contentious and controversial policies of the Obama administration has been the use of drones against terror suspects in foreign countries, and today Secretary of State John Kerry said the US is planning to stop drone strikes in Pakistan.

During a television interview Thursday, Secretary of State John Kerry said the United States hopes to end drone strikes over Pakistan.

“The program will end as we have eliminated most of the threat and continue to eliminate it,” Kerry told Pakistan TV. “I think the president has a very real timeline and we hope it’s going to be very, very soon.”

Drone strikes have been a major sticking point in relations between the United States and Pakistan. Until the United States issued a carefully worded apology over a NATO airstrike that killed 24 Pakistani troops, the country had closed an important military supply line into Afghanistan.

Eagerly awaiting the first wingnut who says this proves Obama is weak on terrorism.

Has Greenwald somehow connected this to Snowden or himself?

However, the beatings manned airstrikes will continue until morale improves.

They’re only doing this so they can move the drones here and start their assault on Christians and gun owners and patriots (excuse the redundancy)! They have their priorities. I read it in Russia Today so it has to be true and Gawd bless ‘Merka! They better not fly over my prop’ty neither, I got a new 12 gauge, magnum, and slugs for it too if they try to drive their tanks in here!

Manned airstrikes are apparently fine to a weirdo sect, just pilotless aircraft set them into a tizzy.

I’m betting that the UAV program in Pakistan will shut down when the US either sets Pakistani military forces up with their own UAV program to carry on without US effort, the Pakistani military steps up in dealing with the frontier provinces, or other efforts are made on the Afghan side of the border.

This still boils down to how Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the US all deal with the frontier provinces and the Taliban who harbor AQ and other affiliated or aligned terror groups (like LeT).

Just as the US hoped to get the Afghans to stand on their own and the Iraqis to do the same, there’s a whole lot of hope riding on the decision to end the US UAV campaign in the Afghan-Pakistan border regions.

Agreed that this probably means that the sale and training of UAVs to the Pakistanis is coming close to being a done deal.

Steamboat Geyser went off today in a big way. About 30-40 people were in the vicinity when it went and were able to view it first hand - including the video at the link above.

Steamboat is the tallest geyser in the world, but it’s highly unpredictable as to when it will go off.

Yo, Ted, now that we’re stopping the drone strikes we’ll need something to take their place. Why don’t you and Geraldo and Rush load up your gear and head for Waziristan to hunt some Taliban? No? Hey, they’re not quite as sporting as the NVA but don’t let that missed opportunity keep from pursuing other chances for excitement and the thrill of the hunt. As a bonus, the locals don’t care about your girlfriend’s age.

Try this one for an article headline:

If Benghazi’s No Scandal, Why a Cover-Up?

Written like a pro.

Anyway, soon they’ll be asking if Obama is not beating his wife then why is the Secret Service so sekrit about it.

I’m still in facepalm mode over the “Adam” and “Eve” story and headline used for the story from Bloomberg yesterday… and oh, look, Ars Technica does the same thing with one small modification:

Genetic Adam and Eve may have walked on Earth at the same time

Ars picked this up from a blog… but I guess adding “genetic” to the headline is supposed to help.

Dear RWNJ: You’re failure to find evidence of a scandal or crime does not constitute evidence of a “cover-up.” Also, too: you’re just being dicks about Benghazi and the deaths of the diplomats.
