Putin Admits Snowden Contacted Russian Agents Before Coming to Russia

Another piece of the story falls into place
World • Views: 24,660

After first denying it, Russian President Vladimir Putin now admits that NSA leaker Edward Snowden contacted Russian agents in Hong Kong before going to Russia.

MOSCOW—Russian President Vladimir Putin has admitted that Edward Snowden contacted Russian diplomats in Hong Kong a few days before boarding a plane to Moscow but that no agreement was reached to shelter him and he decided to come to Russia on his own without warning.

Mr. Putin had initially said Mr. Snowden’s arrival at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport on June 23 was a “complete surprise,” but now acknowledges that he had some prior knowledge that the fugitive former U.S. National Security Agency contractor might be headed Russia’s way.

“Mr. Snowden first appeared in Hong Kong and met with our diplomatic representatives. It was reported to me that there was such an employee, an employee of the security services. I asked ‘What does he want?’ He fights for human rights, for freedom of information and challenges violations of human rights and violations of the law in the United States. I said, ‘So what?’,” Mr. Putin said in an interview with Russia’s Channel One and The Associated Press.

To people who weren’t navely trusting the Greenwald-Snowden narrative, this was already obvious. But now it’s even clearer that nothing Putin or Greenwald has said about this case can be taken at face value; there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes than they’re telling us.

Makes sense to me. Why should Putin care about such issues in the US, except to the extent that it gives ammo for Russian propaganda.

Pussy Riot can attest to Putin’s disinterest in human rights and free speech.

What Putin did see was the very valuable cache of documents Snowden grabbed on his way out of the US, and that’s what kept his interest. That’s the only thing of value.

Snowden is disposable. To Russia. To China. And even to Greenwald and the Dudebros, and expect the narrative to continue shifting away from Snowden’s intentions and what he did to try and claim that the documents show some kind of American malfeasance.

WND: Obama Sending Secret Muslim Foot Signals

After cracking the case of President Obama’s secret Muslim ring, WorldNetDaily’s latest scoop exposes Obama’s secret Muslim foot signals.

In her column, “Obama Sending Muslim Subtle Message?,” Andrea Shea King claims that a photo of Obama with his foot on the Resolute desk of the Oval Office is actually “a wordless message of support to the Muslim Brotherhood, Arab street and Islamic community in general.”

“It is, after all, common knowledge that the Arab world considers the bottom of one’s shoes the ultimate sign of disrespect,” she writes.

Of course, Republican presidents from George W. Bush to Gerald Ford were also photographed with their feet on the Oval Office desk, but maybe they were just sending secret Muslim messages as well!

Video: 10 police cars chase moped

Brooks said Smith initially pulled over but then refused to speak with the officer and took off on his moped.

More than 10 FWPD squad cars followed Smith on his moped. The pursuit led police around a large side of southeast Fort Wayne, according to Brooks.

Brooks said the pursuit speed topped out at around 20 miles per hour.

We need Benny Hill on this one.

Standard MIRV carry about 12 warheads each, set to detonate around a target at air, surface, and subsurface detonations, to maximize the effects of the heat and EMP blasts, ground effect shockwaves, and the amount of fallout kicked up.

An Ohio Class submarine carries 24 Trident MIRV, meaning 288 warheads are on board. We have 18 active right now, so a potential 5184 warheads right there.

Rubio: Syria situation would be different ‘if I had been in charge’

“Well, first of all, we have to outline what should have been done because that’s important,” Rubio said. “We have to understand, if I had been in charge — or someone else, hopefully — we’d have never gotten to this stage. So if we inherited this mess, which we have now, I think our obligation is to try to figure out what is the least worst option available to us because they’re all bad. And part of that equation, I can’t tell you right now until we go through that intelligence briefing tomorrow because one of the key questions we have to ask ourselves is, ‘Who are these so-called moderates on the ground in Syria and are they even capable of taking control of the country and giving us a rational, secular, stable government?’ That’s a key question.”

2,150 of these weapons are considered deployed on missiles or bases with operational launchers.

According to Wiki, those nukes are spread among Minuteman launchers (550 total), Trident missile subs (1,152), and air launched systems (bombs and ALCMs) (500). That sounds about right as the American nuclear doctrine has shifted to sub launched missiles as the key deterrent due to their difficulty in being spotted and ability to get close to target before launching.

Most of the 66,000 warheads that the US has produced since the start of the Manhattan Project have been dismantled or are now awaiting dismantling at Pantex.

Hey look, we have another stupid 51st Proposal (Only D.C. and P.R. should be next on the list.)

A Proposal for the 51st State: Whinyassistan

Today we have the news that Siskiyou County, CA wants to secede from the state of California and potentially join with other rural counties in Oregon to create a new 51 state. This comes on the heels of news out of Colorado in June that 10 rural counties wanted to secede from the state and create the new state of “North Colorado”. In each case, these are rural, conservative counties wanting to secede from states that are either liberal or beginning to trend in a liberal direction.

So with these are other micro-secession movements, I have a proposal for the first virtual state. It’s very difficult to secede from a state. You need to original state’s permission - the whole state. And then you’ve got to get Congress to sign off. Up until now though it’s always been assumed that new states must be contiguous. But I don’t think there’s any constitutional reason why that needs to be the case.

So what I propose is having Congress group together all the whiny sad-sac counties like Siskiyou and create the virtual state of ‘Whinyassistan’. A rightwing piece of California here, a chunk of Colorado there, perhaps a few totally freak counties from the northern tier of New Hampshire and basically whoever else wanted to join. Transportation and economic development would be challenging. But it would be real independence.

New Start Treaty reduces those figures.

Under the Treaty, the U.S. and Russia will be limited to significantly fewer strategic arms within seven years from the date the Treaty enters into force. Each Party has the flexibility to determine for itself the structure of its strategic forces within the aggregate limits of the Treaty. These limits are based on a rigorous analysis conducted by Department of Defense planners in support of the 2010 Nuclear Posture Review.
Aggregate limits:
1,550 warheads. Warheads on deployed ICBMs and deployed SLBMs count toward this limit and each deployed heavy bomber equipped for nuclear armaments counts as one warhead toward this limit.
This limit is 74% lower than the limit of the 1991 START Treaty and 30% lower than the deployed strategic warhead limit of the 2002 Moscow Treaty.
A combined limit of 800 deployed and non-deployed ICBM launchers, SLBM launchers, and heavy bombers equipped for nuclear armaments.
A separate limit of 700 deployed ICBMs, deployed SLBMs, and deployed heavy bombers equipped for nuclear armaments.
This limit is less than half the corresponding strategic nuclear delivery vehicle limit of the START Treaty.

I get the frustration with them, but a lot of the folks who buy into it genuinely believe that they are supporting America. You and I think differently, but that’s life.

Both my grandparents on my dad’s side were pretty close to right-wing nut-jobs, but the first word on my grandfather’s tombstone is “Patriot” and I can’t think of a better one. He served in the Air Force for 20 years, civil service for another 20, and spent a lot of his retirement working with charities to support wounded veterans coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. I disagreed with him a lot on politics, but I don’t doubt that he believed strongly in the ideals of America.

Oregon bakery that refused to make cake for gay couple shuts down

Matt Barber is furiously Tweeting that this is “exactly like!” a gay baker being forced to bake cakes for Westboro Baptist, or a Muslim caterer being forced to serve bacon at a “gay wedding.”

No it’s not you jackass. Fuckin’ analogies, how do they work?

In case #1: would Westboro even hire a gay baker?
In case #2: Halal caterers do not provide bacon as part of their menu. Should they be required to serve halal (which they DO provide) to any customer who requests their services? You betcha!

Harvey: Pray For Russian Law Criminalizing Pro-Gay Rights Speech

Mission America’s Linda Harvey used her radio commentary today to sing the praises of the Russian government’s growing crackdown on the LGBT community, calling on listeners to pray for the law which bans pro-gay rights speech. Harvey, who has joined other Religious Right activists in endorsing the law, said that any “responsible adult” would back Russia’s criminalization of gay “propaganda.”

She said Russian children will now be free from thinking that they might be gay or that gay people can be accepted in the Christian faith. “In other words, the kids in Russia may get to live lives as kids and not be weighed down with adult agendas laced with adult deception,” Harvey maintains.

“They have apparently observed the harm being done to kids in the West as a result of homosexual exploitation and are pursuing a much wiser course before global gay activism gets a foothold there,” she concluded. “[L]et’s pray that children there continue to be allowed protection in this way and in every other way God would want as well.”

Elizabeth Warren Offers Fantastic Analysis of Possible U.S. Involvement in Syria

“What’s important is that we have a plan and a realistic way to execute on that plan. We need to remember unintended consequences of any action. Good intentions alone will not help us. What Assad has done is reprehensible. It violates international law, and it violates the law of humanity. But it is critically important that before we act that we have a plan, a goal and we have a reasonable way for ensuring that goal. I think we’re now in a state of flux.”

In the first decades of their program, Soviets did not put permissive action links on their weapons—devices designed to require release from a higher central authority. We gave them the tech to do so, letting both the Kremlin and Pentagon unpucker a little.

There is a conspiracy theory that the boomer the soviets lost in the Pacific (the one that the Glomar Explorer went after)blew up because the Captain couldn’t give the codes for that permissive release to the KGB types that were supposed to pretend to be a Chinese first strike on Hawaii.

It would make an interesting movie… ;)

re: #144 Justanotherhuman

Probably, but as Radley Balko’s work has shown, the police in the US *have* gone way overboard in militarizing, and in putting their own safety before the safety of the citizens. They need to de-escalate, stop using SWAT teams to serve warrants on non-violent offenders, stop doing no-knock SWAT raids (especially if they haven’t triple-checked the address) , stop shooting ‘threatening’ chihuahuas, stop using fatal physical violence against, say, a harmless man with Downs syndrome who wanted to see a movie again without paying, rather than communicating and talking down the situation.
