and it’s not like it’s a Cessna 152, you can’t just get a couple of guys to push it into the treeline and toss a couple of tarps over it. Where / How do you hide it? There are a LOT of theories out there, but the fact that apparently the aircraft WAS pinging the satellite for 4 or more hours after it was gone from radar (transponders turned off?) is more than curious.
I caught the NPR report, and it reminded me why I’m a “Dollar-A-Day” contributor. I sure get WAY more value than that each day.

Divers from the USS Preserver located what they believed to be the crew cabin on the ocean floor on March 7. A dive the following day confirmed that it was the cabin and that the remains of the crew were inside.[7] No official investigation into the Challenger disaster has concluded for certain the cause of death of the astronauts; it is almost certain, however, that the disintegration itself did not kill the entire crew as 3 of the 4 PEAPs (personal egress air packs) that were recovered had been manually activated. This would only be done during an emergency or loss of cabin pressure (although whether cabin pressure was lost is still in debate but considered likely). PEAPs do not provide a pressurized air flow and would still have resulted in the astronauts losing consciousness within several seconds.[8] There were media reports alleging that NASA had a secret tape recording of the crew panicking and on-board conversation following the disintegration during the 2 minute 45 second free fall before hitting the sea east of Florida. This was likely fabricated and no such recording exists: the crew may have been unconscious from loss of cabin pressure and the astronauts did not wear individual voice recorders.[9] Any such voice recording facility would have been without power since the breakup of the orbiter immediately separated the crew compartment from the power-generating fuel cells in the back of the vehicle. It is certain that the impact of the shuttle with the sea would have killed any still surviving astronauts on board, though they may have died before the impact of other causes.

I asked a friend in aeronautics about this over at the JREF; the commonly used figure for a minimum landing distance is 6100 feet. You could, ostensibly, slow it down to a stop in less distance than that, but finding an airfield in that part of the world that will handle a jumbo jet is nothing short of miraculous in and of itself, let alone one in some out-of-the-way place away from prying eyes. It’s either on the ocean floor or being hidden by a government entity.

Could be aliens, or it could be explosive decompression that didn’t destroy the aircraft’s structural integrity but left it flying on for hours with a cabin full of dead people.

My vote is the bottom of the ocean. At this point, the idea of some mysterious entity diverting and/or hijacking that plane to hold hundreds of people hostage seems unlikely.
I’m guessing some sort of mechanical failure or freak accident caused the plane to go down. Either that or it was a Flight 93 situation. No matter what, that plane still ended up in the water.

Civil wars
In October 2012 the number of ongoing conflicts in Burma included the Kachin conflict, between the Kachin Independence Army and the government; a civil war between the Rohingya Muslims, and the government and non-government groups in Arakan State; and a conflict between the Shan, Lahu and Karen minority groups, and the government in the eastern half of the country.

Noticed this incident in the Wikipedia page on Flight 370.
In 2005 a Boeing 777-2H6ER aircraft with the registration 9M-MRG, serial number 28414, operating as Malaysia Airlines Flight 124 flying from Perth to Kuala Lumpur experienced an ADIRU (air data inertial reference unit) fault resulting in uncommanded manoeuvres by the aircraft acting on false indications.[117] In that incident the incorrect data impacted all planes of movement while the aircraft was climbing through 38,000 feet (11,600 m). The pilots recovered the aircraft and requested a return to Perth. There were no injuries and no damage to the aircraft. The ATSB (Australian Transport Safety Bureau) found that the main probable cause of this incident was a latent software error which allowed the ADIRU to use data from a failed accelerometer.[118] The US Federal Aviation Administration issued Emergency Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2005-18-51 requiring all 777 operators to install upgraded software to resolve the error

Yeah, that’s looking very likely. Yeah, that was one incident I was thinking of. Another was the whole bit mentioned the other day about the Titanic and the search for her. It wasn’t that nobody was searching for her, it’s that she was way outside the areas most folks put her as sinking at. Ocean searches are hard. It’s not like we can just look down through a glass-bottomed boat and see the wreckage 2 miles below.

Indeed. We’re not talking an ocean liner, we’re talking a tube made of aluminum, steel alloys, and various composites. And hitting water at any kind of speed is like hitting concrete, so I imagine when they do finally find this bird, it’s going to be in bits and pieces on the ocean floor.

AF447 made a pretty hefty impact - it was in a full aerodynamic stall and basically plummeting from the sky like a giant rock. It was recovered largely intact. Unless somebody drove the plane into the ocean at full rated power, I think we’ll find at least most of the fuselage in one piece. At the very least, enough of the plane should be in a relatively compact area to identify the wreckage and locate the black boxes.

The Titanic and Bismarck were both ships explorers had been searching for for decades. Ballard succeeded where others failed by not only working from last known positions, which turned out to be off, but by factoring in ocean currents and reckoning to figure out their final resting places.
Both of those searches started from a starting point, last known positions of responding ships (for Titanic) or the positions as plotted by British (Bismarck).
Here? We have a general direction, Maybe. Possibly. Not really.
Ballard used side scan sonar to grid trace until he came across debris fields and then worked back up the field to find the ships themselves.
Here, you’d have a massive location to search, let alone the time/effort to grid search using underwater sonar system.
Depths are potentially as deep or deeper than the Titanic location, though there are shallower areas within the search areas.

Water depths will depend on where you’re talking about. The Andaman Sea or Gulf of Thailand can average 3500 feet, but can go to more than 2 miles deep.
The AF447 final resting place was at about 12,500 feet.
South China sea, by comparison is very shallow, though some parts can exceed a mile deep.

It’s not a real game. It was apparently something a handful of teen thugs did for fun. But good to see the media pushing the fear of inner-city thuggery. I hope they put a twist on it and make the perps white privileged kids who were bored. Would probably be more accurate.

Yeah, I just found a map, but thanks for the exact info.

For anyone who isn’t already familiar with it, UT Austin’s Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection is a fantastic resource and most of the maps are in the public domain. Their World Maps section have many other interesting maps showing things like worldwide age structure, ethnic diversity, illicit traffiking routes. megacities, water availability, oceans, ocean currents & sea ice, etcetera, most of which come from the CIA.
Have a good night, everyone.

North Carolina hunter bags 500-pound hog with .308 AR-10 (VIDEO)
A North Carolina hunter took down a 500-pound, 8-foot-long hog last month with his .308-caliber AR-10.
Jett Webb was hunting in Bertie County near Indian Woods when he came across the roaming beast. He quickly realized it was the same hog other hunters had been trying to bag since it was first spotted on trail cameras over a year ago. Since shooting the wild animal, Webb has quickly skyrocketed to notoriety. But the veteran hunter says the experience was a humbling one, Daily Mail reports.
“It was very surreal,” recalls Webb. “It was a shock. It was very humbling to say the least, when you walk up on a beast that big and you say, “Oh my gosh. I had no idea that there could be something that big running around the woods of Eastern North Carolina.’”

IF, a big if, the plane flew for another 5 hours after it disappeared from radar, here is what may have happened.
The 777 has two transponders. It’s an incredibly reliable instrument. If it fails, a big warning light comes on to the fault display system and says “Primary Transponder Failure”. This tells the flight crew to enable the secondary transponder.
After the transponder shut down, the secondary did not come online.
There is a system called ARCAS that transmits data to satellites and then to various receiver stations that gives a plethora of data to various sites about what the airplane is doing. When Air France 447 went down, this was the data set that indicated that the plane was in serious trouble. For the most part, it appears that the ARCAS was shut down.
There are other data transmission systems on the 777 that are independent of the ARCAS. One of them is the engine data system.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the Rolls Royce engines sent data at least four hours into the flight. They later retracted the story, saying that the data came from a SatCom link, not from the engines. What the difference is between the ARCAS (which is a SatCom link, and may have been disabled in the cockpit) and the Rolls Royce SatCom link that reported the information is not clear.
My best guess is that whatever happened occurred in the cockpit. The jet appeared to hit several standard nav points on standard routes before it left radar visible waypoints to the west of its standard routing. That is a pilot thing.
The what and the why are unknown. But the fact is that the plane is in the wind. If it was hijacked, it could be anywhere in south central or west central Asia, maybe even east Africa, given the fuel load.
As Yul Brenner would say “It is a puzzlement.”

Here’s a crowdfunding proposal the group may find interesting (via IndieGoGo):
Childrens Bulletproof backpacks- The reality of 2014?
BulletSafe, a popular bulletproof vest company, is testing the waters for a children’s bulletproof backpack panel using Indiegogo. Indiegogo is a crowdsourcing website where new product ideas are presented and potential customers can encourage their introduction. BulletSafe is using this platform to see if people want to protect their children from handguns.
The project is called the BulletSafe Bulletproof Backpack Panel. The panel, which is designed to go in a kid’s backpack, can stop bullets up to a .44 Magnum. Eventually the BulletSafe Bulletproof Backpack Panel will retail for $99 plus shipping, but IndieGoGo campaign backers can order one now by pledging $89. Retailers can also preorder 6 panels on Indiegogo for $420.
Originally, Tom Nardone, BulletSafe president, created just three of these bulletproof backpack inserts to protect the most precious people in his life: his kids. “After I made them, I wondered if other people would want to buy one. I asked friends and some said yes, others said no. In order to settle the issue I created this Indiegogo campaign.” Says Nardone.
The panel is made from the same materials as Bulletsafe’s NIJ level IIIA Bulletproof Vest. The insert is 12 by 10 inches in size and weighs one and a quarter pounds. This panel is different from other ballistic panels on the market in that it includes a tough, washable exterior carrier. “Other ballistic panels are not ready to be used in a kid’s backpack. They can’t handle the spills and abrasion. Our panel has a tough, washable exterior required by that type of use.” Says Nardone. Even though it has these added features, the BulletSafe Bulletproof Backpack Panel still has an industry leading $99 MSRP putting it within financial reach of many families.

I guess anything’s possible, it’s just that hijacking seems so unlikely. I mean, how/where do you hide a giant plane and all those people, and how far could they have gone with no one noticing? It seems (to me) there would need to be one or more governments involved to pull off something like that.
124 | Charles Johnson Fri, Mar 14, 2014 9:01:52pm |
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — A Malaysian government official says investigators have concluded that one of the pilots or someone else with flying experience hijacked the missing Malaysia Airlines jet.
The official, who is involved in the investigation, says no motive has been established, and it is not yet clear where the plane was taken. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the media.
The official said that hijacking was no longer a theory. “It is conclusive.”

Bet it was the younger pilot. He had short of 3,000 hours of flight time. The head pilot (in his 50s IIRC) had close to 30.000 flight hours. The abrupt altitude changes could show the struggle between the two pilots.
That’s my unprofessional take on the whole mess.
131 | Targetpractice Fri, Mar 14, 2014 9:30:27pm |
Well, if it truly was hijacked, then the $64,000 question is “Did it crash?” If it did, then the search area likely is far from where anybody has guessed so far. If not, then it had to have landed somewhere, which means somebody currently is holding the passengers hostage.

Long story short: Holy crap. Actions in plane confirmed deliberate, therefore it looks like a hijacking. They say based on last known location it could’ve gone up a north corridor towards Uzbekistan/Turkmenistan or a south corridor towards the Indian Ocean. In-freaking-credible.
This can’t be good. Earlier this month when I made this comment, it never entered my mind that something this bizarre could happen. That north corridor thing makes me think of the Chechens—wonder if they’re trying to get back at Putin somehow while he’s distracted—they’re just across the Caspian Sea from Turkmenistan… then again, Turkmenistan also shares a border with Iran & Afghanistan.
Good grief. I just hope & pray the passengers are okay.
159 | CuriousLurker Fri, Mar 14, 2014 11:58:28pm |
The headline’s a bit confusing, but this is the best summary I’ve found so far of the presser with the Malaysian PM:
Hijacking not confirmed says Malaysian PM
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, addressing a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, says the plane may not have been hijacked. He said the Malaysian authorities and military have widened their search based on new satellite communication from the plane. Two search corridors have been included - the northern one stretching upto Kazakhstan and a southern corridor stretching to Indonesia.
Mr Razak said authorities were very confident that the transponder of flight MH 370 was disabled. Movement of missing flight was consistent with deliberate action of someone on plane, Mr Razak said. Search for the plane in the South China Sea has been called off, the Malaysian Prime Minister said.
Earlier on Saturday, investigators had concluded that one or more people with significant flying experience had hijacked the missing Malaysia Airlines jet, switched off communication devices and steered it off-course, a Malaysian government official involved in the investigation said.
No motive has been established and no demands have been made known, and it is not yet clear where the plane was taken, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The official said that hijacking was no longer a theory.
“It is conclusive,” he said. […]

All the more so for crossing borders between nations known to have military leaders quite suspicious of their neighbors.

No, the Malaysian PM is telling you that based on what he claims experts have told him. I don’t know enough about about how any of this stuff works to even begin to presume whether it could be true or not, which is why I’ve hardly commented on it all week.

If they even wanted the passengers for anything. They could just as easily have killed all of them either before or after landing, and set the plane up to be another missile hitting one of their foes’ most-valued civilian targets. The only problem is, we still don’t know who the hijackers are, so there’s no way of knowing their foes, either…

Note that “giant” and “oil” are interpretive.
Hydraulic fluids are usually composed of very light oils, hydrocarbons not much bigger than the fuel, or perhaps more complex silicon-carbon compounds but still quite easily dispersed.

Karzai says war ‘imposed’ on Afghanistan
“In a last address to Parliament on Saturday, Karzai also said his armed forces, now responsible for 93 percent of the country, were ready to take over entirely after the final withdrawal of U.S. and NATO troops later this year.
“Karzai was named as head of state by an international agreement, and subsequently by a council of Afghan notables, in the aftermath of the invasion. His final term in office expires with presidential elections next month.
“He reiterated his stance that he wouldn’t sign a security pact with Washington to allow a residual force to remain behind in Afghanistan, unless the U.S first brings peace.”
Isn’t that a big fuck you to Afghanistan, also? I’m sure Karzai’s bags are packed and he’ll have a comfortable retirement somewhere.

In fairness, we’re not all Gen X’ers. Cobra Commander was only introduced for the small Joes, so anyone over 45 would prolly only know him if their kids had the habit of watching…
…and Joe was dead for the majority of the ’90s, so any Millennials we have in here might have as hard a time recognizing the character.

Just getting up to speed with the missing airliner story. I guess it’s possible it was stolen/hijacked but why? It’s not like the new owners can fly it around. If terrorists wanted to kill 200 people (or take them hostage) there are much easier ways to accomplish that. There haven’t been any ransom demands or claims of responsibility. It doesn’t make much sense to me but I would have thought the same thing if someone told be the 9-11 plan before it happened. I guess we’ll see soon enough.

re: #320 FemNaziBitch
Trending on twitter: #whitemanmarch
seriously?
There’s a website at whitemanmarch dot com.
1. What is the White Man March? What is the purpose and ultimate goal of the march?
The White Man March is scheduled for March 15th, 2014, and will involve coordinated pro-white activity around the world. The purpose is to spread information through activism, but also to make a statement that White people are united in their love for their race and in their opposition to its destruction.
Non-white groups such as La Raza have monthly marches and gatherings with many thousands of participants, while groups advocating for White interests remain relatively silent or hidden from the public. One of the major goals of the White Man March is to demonstrate that pro-White people are able to form a unified front and participate in large-scale action simultaneously, which will send a powerful message to our supporters, our enemies, and those of our race who are still on the fence. We also seek to set a precedent that other pro-white organizations can follow in the future.
2. How many people do you expect to participate?
We are expecting thousands of people to participate in one way or another. We are encouraging people to start networking together now to coordinate local events or to join up with larger regional events. If there are only a few people in a location, they can hang up a banner, hand out fliers, and strike up conversations. If there are more than a few people, they could organize a lightning march (a non-violent flash mob) to make a statement and then disperse before any anti-white protestors or police show up. With larger groups, the demonstrations could be akin to the torch marches of “the Immortals” in Germany. Even if someone wants to stay inside on that day, they can help our efforts by posting about the White Man March in comment sections and message boards. So regardless of size and location, something can be done. All events should be filmed and photographed, so that we can compile a strong show of force after the event.
3. What are the main political and cultural statements you are hoping to make with the White Man March?
We are planning to show that White people are organized and impassioned, that we know what the anti-white agenda is all about, and that we are dedicated to waking up as many of our folk as possible. We will make it clear that we will not sit idly by as our race is discriminated against, mocked, displaced, and violently attacked, all of which amount to white genocide, according to the United Nation’s own definition of genocide. This is why one of our big messages, which will be displayed on many large banners, is “DIVERSITY” = WHITE GENOCIDE. These banners will spread the message to the public at large in the most effective way possible. This “diversity” agenda is being directed at white countries (and only at white countries) with various programs to ensure that there are less white people at schools and in the work force, which is unfair and discriminatory, taking away money and opportunities from the White citizens. “Diversity” is a codeword for White Genocide.
Etc.

The original comic was an amazing bit of dark dark dark satire - they even had the Master keel over from a heart attack - nothing at all like the kiddie dreck on TV.
TV occasionally did some interesting things with kiddy superheros in things like Batman - the Animated Series, or X-Men or, perhaps best of all of them, the 2003 animiated Teen Titans.
But Turtles? Not so much.

I’d never heard the story before I watched the movie. My wife informed me a few years ago, “Oh, everybody in Minnesota knows. I even knew about it and it was before my time.”
The hockey scenes in the movie were great. This is better. It’s the real game…

Al Michaels tried to recreate his commentary as exactly as possible. At the final call, though, the movie replayed the original audio from the game. The producers felt that it wasn’t fair to ask Michaels to try to reproduce the excitement and energy of that moment.

That’s exactly what it is. Last night, I found re-reading myself George Kennan’s essay, “The Sources of Soviet Conduct”.
I wonder if we have the will to ‘contain’ the Russians like we did back in the Cold War era?
We’ll find out soon enough, I suppose. I don’t doubt that the EU could do all number of unpleasant things to Russia’s economy. Britain and the City would seem to be the weakest link in that chain, but if the City could put the squeeze on the Russians (along with the Swiss and the Germans and some of the smaller financial havens in the EU), then yeah….Russia would be feeling the heat in fairly short order.

I think we’re playing a different game now with a longer vision. despite all the rhetoric, I think we (the West) have resigned ourselves to allow Iran, Russia, Venezuela, Syria, etc. run their desired course without much serious interference. The leadership in all these countries is historically doomed and will eventually be replaced but for now we lack the will to enforce serious sanctions and military intervention is very unlikely. I guess it’s a tortoise and the hare strategy.

New Lebanon government reaches compromise on Hezbollah arms
Unlike in previous programmes, the text does not explicitly confer on Hezbollah a role of resisting Israel but still acknowledges the right to resort to arms outside the authority of the state.
“Based on the responsibility of the state to preserve Lebanon?s sovereignty and its independence (and) territorial integrity… the government affirms the role of the state and its quest to liberate” territory held by Israel “with all legitimate means,” it reads.
But the text also affirms the “right of Lebanese citizens to resist the Israeli occupation, repel its attacks and take back the occupied territory.”
Prime Minister Tammam Salam unveiled the country’s compromise government on February 15, capping 10 months of political wrangling and bringing together Hezbollah and Hariri’s bloc.
Hezbollah is now an officially recognized autonomous military force.
