Breitbart Distorts Obama Quote on American Muslims, Commenters Spew Bigotry and Hatred
Over the weekend, President Obama issued the following press release on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, at the close of Ramadan:
As Muslims throughout the United States and around the world celebrate Eid-al-Fitr, Michelle and I extend our warmest wishes to them and their families. This last month has been a time of fasting, reflection, spiritual renewal, and service to the less fortunate. While Eid marks the completion of Ramadan, it also celebrates the common values that unite us in our humanity and reinforces the obligations that people of all faiths have to each other, especially those impacted by poverty, conflict, and disease.
In the United States, Eid also reminds us of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy. That is why we stand with people of all faiths, here at home and around the world, to protect and advance their rights to prosper, and we welcome their commitment to giving back to their communities.
On behalf of the Administration, we wish Muslims in the United States and around the world a blessed and joyous celebration. Eid Mubarak.
Here’s how breitbart.com reported it:
On Sunday, President Obama and First Lady Michelle released a statement thanking Muslim Americans for their many “achievements and contributions… to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy.”
The comments were made to mark the celebration of Eid-al-Fitr, a time of spiritual renewal for Muslims which comes at the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan. The Obamas said in their statement that Eid “celebrates the common values that unite us in our humanity” and “welcomed their commitment to giving back to their communities.” The International Business Times reports that during Eid, Muslims join in Islamic prayer, while saying “Allahu Akbar,” or “God is Great,” and feasting.
The statement further reads that the administration “wishes Muslims in the United States and around the world a blessed and joyous celebration.” The letter ended with salutation of “Eid Mubarak,” which roughly means “blessed celebration.”
The headline was enough to unleash the bigot brigade:
Contributions??? You mean like INSULTING everyone by putting a mosque at GROUND ZERO?
How about thanking Christians and Jews for THEIR contributions to this country - you know, like FOUNDING it? Ah, that’s right…that would offend our Jihadist-in-Chief!
Some of the muslim “contributions” are:
3. The Boston Marathon.
4. Nidal Hasan.
5. Muhammad & Malvo.
6. Daniel Pearl.
7. Lee Rigby (I know he was British).
Feel free to add a few of your own muslim “contributions” to the US.
It’s not Muslims with the significant intellectual contributions, it is the Persians with a few things to brag about. Persians are responsible for the majority of all notable Islamic achievements in literature, art, government, science, theology, education, philosophy, and architecture.
Well, that and all of the technology and science they got from the Byzantines and the Ptolemaic Greeks in Egypt. It became Muslim when they were forced to become Muslims or have their heads cut off.
inquisition mo-ham-head style
why would Muslims follow a guy that’s called Mo Ham head? I thought they hated pork.
All of our bullets should be coated in bacon fat.
Exactly! People should read the Koran and a little history. They would realize what BS the Islamic “contributions” to the world are in fact
Islam was created by a lunatic pedophile
And on and on it goes, down the intellectual toilet that is breitbart.com, and American movement conservatism.
On a somewhat related note is the following plea:
Democrats, Liberals, Progressives, Moderates, and the politically apathetic - if you stay home in November like you did in 2010, people who reflect the above mentality will be elected - chronically misinformed, deranged, and demented. I know many of you aren’t thrilled with Democrats and President Obama, and there is good reason to feel that way. But if you express your dismay by sitting this election out, our government could be in the hands of dangerously unstable people.
I will step off the soap box now.
