Obama Sending White House Aides to Michael Brown’s Funeral, Jim Hoft Says “All Black Delegation”

Cue exploding heads
US News • Views: 32,746

The President is sending three White House officials to the funeral service of Michael Brown in St. Louis on Monday:

Leading the group for Monday’s service will be the chairman of the My Brother’s Keeper Task Force, Broderick Johnson. My Brother’s Keeper is an Obama initiative that aims to empower young minorities. Johnson is also the secretary for the Cabinet.

Also attending will be the deputy director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, Marlon Marshall, and an adviser for the office, Heather Foster.

And here’s how deranged, openly racist right wing blogger Jim Hoft sees it:

I’m pretty sick at my stomach, over the comments on this I just read at a right wing site.
I think it’s great that the President is sending representatives.

OMG and wherever President Obama goes the entire delegation is headed by a black man. INPEACH!

6 ausador  Aug 23, 2014 9:46:57pm

Because nothing conveys your empathy and understanding to the family of a slain black youth like sending a bunch of white political staffers in $2000 suits, right Jim?

There is already going to be plenty of white faces there Jim don’t worry, unfortunately a lot of them will probably be dressed in riot gear. :(

Right wing racism has never been clearer or more obvious than it is tonight.

I disagree. It’s been clear and obvious for decades, went into overdrive in 2008, and got roided up to ZOMG ELEVENTY HERP DERP in 2012.

It took the election and re-election of a black man as POTUS to pull the curtain back on the racism that has been endemic on the right. It took the murder of a young black man by a white cop to make it abundantly clear that we haven’t learned shit since Jim Crow.

And the hits just keep on coming:

Autopsy report: Victor White III shot in the chest, not back

The Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office has released only the first page of the autopsy report, which contradicts statements initially made by State Police who said White shot himself in the back while handcuffed in the back of a sheriff’s unit.

According to the autopsy, the bullet entered White’s chest, then perforated his left lung and heart before exiting his armpit area and lacerating his upper arm. The report rules White’s death a suicide.

katc.com

Because of course, whether he was shot in the chest or in the back, while in handcuffs, it was obviously suicide.

So. Much. Hate.

LGF exposes and ridicules this kind of stuff. It’s weird to recount it but even in the mid 2000s LGF exposed and ridiculed stupid and hateful ideologies. The “early” days of LGF (with its emphasis on Islam and Islamic extremists) was well known for that kind of stuff.

But Charles is better than the haters. He’s renounced his former travelers in re: Islam and has been reporting honestly about *hate* stuff right here in the United States.

In these times, LGF has been keeping me sane. Just sayin’.

The Tea Party of Louisiana has declared Sen. David Vitter a “turncoat of liberty” because of his support for Common Core, warning yesterday that the education standards will turn kids gay. Vitter came out in favor of Common Core while Gov. Bobby Jindal, who once supported Common Core, is now trying — so far unsuccessfully— to repeal the standards. Angry with Vitter’s remarks, the Tea Party group responed by linking to an article titled “Common Core Turns First Wave Of Students Gay,” apparently unaware that it was from the parody website Broken World News….

The Times-Picayune notes that Broken World News lists on its About page: “If you believe any of the shit you read here you are a freaking moron.”

52 CarolJ  Aug 24, 2014 12:06:01am

What I’ve been thinking all weekend about the RCP. They have no idea about the long hard work it would take to actually bring about revolution. That comes in part because the American Revolution is treated like a pretty portrait of Revolutionary leaders and the Founders as demi-gods rather than the Revolution it was. So lots is left out, like Franklin’s diplomacy, or Washington’s successful raising of an army, or the decades of pamphleteering. Not to mention the real stories of blood and toil behind it all. So a lot of folks think a revolution just needs a spontaneous act of violence for change to occur. It’s a problem on the Right too-think MVeigh thinking blowing up a Federal building with children in it would start the revolution he wanted. Or Jim Jones’s Revolutionary Suicide.

They will provoke young black kids to violence, or young angry veterans like McVeigh, or young jihadi kids into doing violent acts against people who are suffering just as badly as they are in the name of a revolution they can’t even articulate the results they hope to gain.

And serve as justification for even more repressive measures and even less freedom for those who remain, making real change harder to attain because of a fearful populace.

It doesn’t work that straightforward. It’s basically an estimate that can be off by several magnitudes sometimes.

You should always try to click through to the last available page.

Doing it in this case shows that there are ~119 results:

Page 12 of about 119 results (0.46 seconds)

Plus the “obvious” duplicates:

In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 120 already displayed.
If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included.

For “white” it’s respectively 13.

54 Islamo-Masonic Conspirator  Aug 24, 2014 12:24:00am

re: #53 Islamo-Masonic Conspirator

When you enable the display of the duplicates, it displays this on the last av. page:

Page 52 of about 551,000 results (0.34 seconds)

Yet 51x10+3=513 results - those 120 above plus the duplicates. Google is a bit broken.

55 Sophist -- Missouri Goddamn  Aug 24, 2014 12:36:03am

Sending three black guys to a funeral = PROVOCATION!!!

That about the size of it?

56 ausador  Aug 24, 2014 1:01:32am

Just spent fifteen minutes looking up the numbers, 23,114 whites murdered by whites and 21,567 blacks murdered by blacks 2005 - 2012. As opposed to the 3939 whites murdered by blacks or the 1726 blacks murdered by whites during the same period.

(tables only contain crimes where race data was available, the actual total number of murders is higher) :(

Asshole tweets that thing out multiple times a day, been sending it to every journalist he can find to complain about the “white genocide.” Sorry, but an average of less than 500 murders per year over 8 years does not qualify as genocide (unless your a white supremacist I guess).

The important thing to do is to compare that guys numbers to the distribution of the general population. The US is 77% white and 13.2% Black, for a ratio of 5.83. That would be the baseline expectation of black on white murders to white on black murders if our population was distributed in a perfectly random fashion. You would expect minority offenders to in general to pick victims from the people around them, and a minority individual has far more interactions with members of the majority than vice-versa.

However the ratio given is actually 2.28, because in real life we are still very much a segregated nation geographically. Black people haven’t been warmly welcomed into white society, and interracial marriage only runs at 8.2% nationally. Meaning the vast majority of people still pair off and form racially homogenous families, so the people around them - the people in their families - are more likely to look like themselves, and most victimization is done between people who know and either live with or near each other.

So what the racists don’t get, and don’t want to get, is that the real story here is that the ratio isn’t higher. Because it should be, if this society was truly anything close to a real melting pot with people blending and interacting more as individuals instead of as separate and distinct populations that ratio would be at least double.

Morning, Lizards. Hope you’re all doing well.

Here in the Czech Republic, a planned extreme-right anti-Gypsy protest march in the city of Děčin didn’t go as planned - because the DSSS (an extreme-right party, the Worker’s Party of Social Justice) got pwned by their opponents.

The Czech town of Děčín has experienced yet another anti-Romani demonstration, this time under the baton of the right-wing extremists from the Workers’ Social Justice Party (Dělnická strana sociální spravedlnosti - DSSS). The last hateful demonstration prior to this one in Děčín was organized by the notorious con artist Lukáš Kohout on Wednesday, 13 August.

Very few people turned out on the town square for today’s demonstration. Activists from the Konexe organization were there to support local Roma and news server romea.cz followed the situation in Děčín online in real time:

17:24 - The organizers of the DSSS assembly in Děčín have apparently been duped, just like con artist Lukáš Kohout was with respect to his assembly on the 13th. When advertising the event, the organizers shared a link online to the “Safe Děčín” (zabezpecnydecin.webnode.cz) website - which was actually established by their opponents. Yesterday the disinformation was posted there that the Saturday event was being postponed until next week. “We recommend that the DSSS and other fools like them not organize anything ever again if they’re this incompetent!” that website now reads. The site is now also publishing copies of the confused communications taking place among the right-wing extremists on Facebook, some of whom are expressing their disgust with the amateurism of the DSSS.

When NSDAP is labeled right-wing by scholars, it’s the ideology that is so named, not the economic system. Here in the Czech Republic, there are a few extreme-right parties, but they’re small and generally insignificant. There are populist right parties that actually do clear the threshold for seats in the Parliament.

There’s really nothing like Fox News Channel here, but there is a network called Prima, which recently found itself in hot water; they had a segment about “dangerous places” on their nightly newscasts, said “dangerous places” being largely Romani neighborhoods, which were hyped as places where ethnic Czechs would be lynched if they went in there, cesspools of crime, corruption and depravity, yada, yada, yada.

This drew the attention of the Ministry of Communications, which monitored Prima and went on to issue a nominal fine of 2000 Kč (about $100) and warned them that Prima was coming perilously close to violating the Czech Republic hate-speech laws. They further warned Prima that the MoC would be monitoring their broadcasts, and that if that continued, they’d pull Prima’s broadcasting license.

Prima is appealing to the Constitutional Court, but most legal experts say they have pretty much no chance as the hate-speech laws have been found legal -and constitutional - time and time again. So Prima is on notice, and other broadcasters here are watching the case rather closely, as is the print media, in which I’ve noticed that anti-Gypsy stories (usually a staple of the tabloid press here and anti-Muslim stories as well) have quietly disappeared over the last few months.

Last night I opined that it seems like we’re fighting the battles of the 1960’s all over again.

There was a movie from 1965 which was a sort of homily about prejudice (of all sorts) and hate, Ship Of Fools, which I think is better than the IMDB rating would suggest (but since the movie is in b&w and has no aliens blowing up in space then I suppose many people these days wouldn’t find it exciting.)

Worth a gander if you can find it. Some of the characters would fit right in with today’s hate-right blogosphere:

My friend who has cancer died yesterday afternoon. He was moved from ICU to the hospice floor and passed within two hours of being removed from the ventilator. His daughters curled up next to him in the bed while he passed. He was surrounded by his closest friends and family while the rest of us waited outside.

Sigh. It really feels intuitively wrong to refer to him in the past tense.

As an aside, nearly everyone in this group is right wing conservative. Which means while we were waiting that one guy, who just can’t stop himself, was trying to show me Obama hating crap while a friend of ours is fucking dying. I wanted so bad to just slap the living shit out of him. One of the pictures was Obama kissing some dignitary on the lips. Had I had my wits about me, I would have found that picture of Bush liplocked with the Saudi prince or whomever, but I just walked to the restroom. I don’t get this shit at all. What’s sad is that without the hateful ODS, this guy is really a decent human-funny as hell. We were roommates and good friends before I met The Husband. Ack. I’ll be seeing a lot of these people in coming weeks and months, I had been out of touch for a long, long time. Not sure how to handle this crap, I’m torn between wanting to slap people and being happy to reconnect with a huge group of old friends. Time will tell I guess.

That’s exactly what it is; incitement. There’s enough problems with Czech racism towards the Romani - and xenophobia as well - without some numbskulls in the media trying to fan the flames. There’s a populist politician here who’s in trouble over Holocaust Denial - specifically, he questioned that any Romani died at the Lety Concentration Camp. Under Czech law, that falls under their Holocaust Denial laws, so he’s in deep doodoo, and he was digging himself deeper until one his more media-savvy advisers presumably told him to shut the hell up.

Unfortunately, Czechs themselves have a tendency to dismiss the Romani aspect of the Nazi’s “New Order”, partly because a good many of them have no real problem with it, and partly because it means admitting broad Czech collaboration with the Nazis in regards to that squalid affair - something the Czechs are exceedingly uncomfortable with.

I think I understand, having read a book about that aspect of the Holocaust (Moral Combat: Good and Evil in World War II by Michael Burleigh) last year.

Some of it was the diabolically clever way Reinhard Heydrich set up the removal of the Roma before he was eliminated (he didn’t set up everything but he did a great deal). The Nazis in the Czech region used rewards such as shoes* confiscated from the black market as an incentive to Czechs to point out Roma camps and turn in Roma and Jews in hiding.

Moreover, unlike in the occupied Baltic States and USSR the Germans did not kill their victims then and there. They put their victims on trains and took them away, explaining that they were being “resettled in the East”. So people could think they hadn’t played a role in mass murder, until the end of the war when liberation of the camps tore the wool from their eyes.

The company I work for does work with jails. I’ve been to several jails and a prison on business. Being a guard at a county jail is not exactly glamorous work. It takes a person with a certain edge to deal with rooms full of meth heads, petty thieves, abusive assholes, etc. on a daily basis.

That some of them build relationships with the people they’re supposed to watch isn’t a surprise at all. They’re spending eight hours a day in the same room together. Of course there will be conversation. There shouldn’t be, but there is. That inmate had better hope his pod mates aren’t sad those ladies are gone. “They got fired because of you?”

THE issue is that the Jail employees were in positions of Power over the inmate. They crossed the line.

Everything is monitored on video in jails. They can’t move from the pod (the common room for 30-90 inmates, depending on facility size) to the hallway without being buzzed out by Central Command. Usually there is a second door that also needs to be buzzed through, so if the inmates rush the open door they only go about 10 feet before hitting a second one. Only one door is allowed to be open at any time. So you buzz into a room. Wait for the door behind you to slide shut and lock, then buzz into the next area.

In other words, this wasn’t just a case of a couple of horny women taking advantage of an inmate. At least two other people were probably watching the whole thing take place.

We are talking legalese. They were in positions of power over the inmate (if the genders had been reversed, it would probably be easier for people to understand. If there were two other people complicit to the activity, they are also in deep shit.

Oh, if this were two men taking advantage of a woman people would easily understand, but it likely wouldn’t make the news. It may also have helped that the women are white and the inmate Latino.

I hope that latter angle doesn’t cause some wingnut site to pick the story up. Because I can just imagine how Freepers would see this one: “Dirty Mexican Gangbanger caught seducing our women!!”

On a serious note, another related issue, and frankly the one that prompted me to refer this story to GGT, is that it is kind of hard to see a man as the victim and women as the wrong doers in a case like this. I actually can and do see it that way, but there is always in my mind the wondering “How can it be a man who was sexually victimized? He has the penis and did most of the physical work of fucking after all.”

I know that last sentence is rather crude. and I apologize for that.

Well, that could be a valid perspective if the women involved weren’t employees in a system in which they should know better. He can’t be the first inmate to want to have sex with them. I would hope the employer has specific training to that issue.

Domestic violence victim fatally turns gun on attacker following five-hour assault

One Million United wants women to embrace self-defense (VIDEO)

Men may be far more likely to own or carry guns but they provide a greater “balance of advantage” to women. A man who is bigger and stronger than his intended victim can still use a knife or tire iron instead of a gun, but the victim is still at a serious disadvantage if she tries to use such a weapon to defend herself. But if both have guns, things are far more equal.

Also do not forget the Marissa Alexander case that we both posted about. She ended up in prison (she’s now been released on bail and likely won’t be retried as the law on point in Florida has been changed as a result of her case), but she might well have been beaten to death by her violent husband had she not been able to defend herself with a gun.

Screw-top is not necessarily a sign of poor quality. If it is a light white or rosé that is not meant to be stored for any length of time, a screw top is fine. Corks are, however, really needed for any wine that is going to be aged for more than a year.

IIRC, most domestic violence victims are so thoroughly conditioned by the predator that the predator will over power then, disarm them, then use the gun to further his control.

It takes a lot of training to overpower such conditioning —often instilled in childhood and capitalized on by predators later in life.

I’m inclined to think that if every kid got a merit badge in gun safety , there would be fewer problems overall. Fear of firearms is a major factor with DV victims.

Just a drive-by, but nope, not any more. The Aussies in particular are starting to bottle some really good reds with screw tops. They age just fine and will never end up ‘corked’ as a surprising percentage of wines are. (Estimates vary from 1% to as high as 10%.)

Dark,

I think you need to do a bit of study on the human brain and what a powerful, beautiful, ugly, happy, scary, uncontrollable (and so much many more terms) organ it is.

Obdi just hit on it. “Thinking.”

You seem to like to live in the hard fact physical and material world. What goes on in the human mind impacts all of that.

Read and study more information dealing with the power of the human psyche as it would give you more feel for the mental behind the physical.

And that might even change how some of the hard facts you see need to be weighed against the human thinking that led to them.

Take the jail thing you brought up. There is a lot more ‘mental’ aspect to the whole thing than you seem to consider.

Yes, you do, to both. Therapists are available on a sliding scale, and an appointment takes 50 minutes. Don’t make excuses, you owe it to yourself and those who care about you to do this.

You’ve repeatedly stated, over the years, how deeply unhappy you are with aspects of yourself, and it clearly, clearly impacts your functionality and thought processes. Please see a therapist and give yourself a chance. If you decide not to, don’t make weak-ass excuses about time and money, just say you’re going to shirk responsibility and not try to solve anything.

TRIPOLI/BENGHAZI Libya (Reuters) - Forces from the Libyan city of Misrata on Saturday seized Tripoli’s main airport after more than a month of fighting with a rival group, a Misrata spokesman said.

Pictures on social media purportedly showed Misrata fighters celebrating at the terminal building and standing on civilian planes in what, if confirmed, would be a big development in the battle to control the capital.

Arab channels Jazeera and Al-Arabiya also said Misrata forces were controlling the airport, although Reuters was unable immediately to access the area. Heavy shelling could be heard in other parts of the city.

War planes had earlier struck Misrata positions in Tripoli in an attack claimed by renegade general Khalifa Haftar. The raids killed 10 people and wounded dozens, the Misrata faction said.

Fresh fighting also erupted between Haftar’s troops and allied army special forces with Islamists in two Benghazi suburbs, where loud explosions could be heard. Four soldiers were killed and 31 wounded, a hospital medic said.

The Obama golf critics will complain no matter what he does. Proof that he’s in a conference room while a raid is ongoing, they’ll go and claim that it’s either p-shopped or that he’s micromanaging. If he’s making daily statements, they’ll claim he’s micromanaging or that he’s doing it wrong or that he needs to reach across the aisle to talk to GOPers.

If he reaches across the aisle and gets a stone cold stare, the critics complain if only he’d be more open to their ideas.

If he co-opts their ideas, the critics claim the idea was unconstitutional.

If he tries to break the gridlock and use the power of the Executive (which every president has done via signing statments and executive orders from the 20th century and forward), the critics claim it’s an unconstitutional abuse of power.

The critics will never stop complaining. Their only solace is that they either call for impeachment or that he’ll be out of office in January 2017. Of course, some of these same critics also think that the President is a tyrant and wont leave peacefully.

So, this is the state of his critics. Which is, for intents and purposes, a bunch of right wing extremists who will shatter the public compact with government and will use any and every available means to undermine this President at home or abroad to do so.

Did I reference that Dowd column? Is she even writing?

She’s a hack critic in any event, and the criticism of Obama’s critics still stand. They will complain about every position taken - too much action. Inaction.

And the golf criticisms are just flat out batcrap nuts.

Doesn’t matter who’s making the criticism.

A president doesn’t have a day off. Period. The President might be away from the WH, but they’re never on a day off.

Events can change in a heartbeat and you’ve got to respond. Every president gets a PDB on a daily basis. They’re reviewing documents, getting notifications. Planning. Doing strategy sessions. In other words, working.

A round of golf, or 100, doesn’t indicate anything other than stress relief, which is an absolute necessity for a sitting president. It’s also a way of informally working too - working on deals, strategy, etc., while on the links.

The whole vacation days meme regardless of the party affiliation of the President is just so much BS. Period. No qualifications.

Missouri’s Sunshine Law states law enforcement agencies must promptly provide incident reports that include among other things, “name of the victim and immediate facts and circumstances surrounding the initial report of a crime or incident.”

Devin James, a contract spokesperson hired by the City of Ferguson since Brown’s death, told Yahoo News that questions about the report’s missing information “are beyond the scope of what my team can respond to.” He referred questions to City Attorney Stephanie Karr, who didn’t immediately reply.

If my interpretation of the law in question is correct, then they’re abusing a loophole to avoid releasing a full report, namely that they’ve 30 days after the report is filed to release it in before it becomes illegal to continue withholding it from the public. So by filing the report on the 19th, they’ve got 30 days from then before they have to comply with the FOIA requests.

Pretty close to the truth. In the minds of wingnuts, the only difference between fascists and communists is the uniforms, because they’re both “librul.” When you point out all the holes in that line of thinking, they immediately abandon it or try to argue that both are “authoritarian” and only “libruls” support authoritarianism.
