And the current GOP “leadership” needs a collective kick in the nuts for allowing the bullshit they’ve allowed to gain a foothold. Congratulations for getting neighbors to hate each other, to distrust each other and then making it easier for them to hoard guns. Nice work, assholes.

Matthew 5:17-18
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
But hey, that was just the founder of their religion, aka The Son of God, talking.

Commenting on a new ICM poll for the Sunday Telegraph which puts Yes at 54 per cent and No at 46 per cent - and an Opinium poll for the Observer which puts Yes at 47 per cent and No at 53 per cent - Blair Jenkins, chief executive of Yes Scotland, said: ‘The new ICM poll gives Yes a record eight-point lead, which is hugely encouraging. Meanwhile, Opinium puts Yes behind, but just by six points.
On the streets, everyone I know or speak to is reporting anecdotally that YES seems to have it by a huge margin. A lot of people are voting in this referendum - I think it’s 97.5% of the population that have registered to vote in it - which is phenomenal - and this includes a lot of people who have never voted before (having hitherto felt disenfranchised by the westminster system) and are not being tracked by the opinion polls. Be prepared for a big surprise.
Like everyone else I know I have succumbed to hope and of course, if we don’t get the YES vote this time I’ll be absolutely gutted. But I think we will, despite having the entire UK press and political establishment against us.

I watched a guy piss on the tire of my car from inside of a gas station one afternoon. I bought a 20 oz. bottle of diet coke then drove to the parking lot across the street where he’d walked, rolled my window down, squeezed the bottle and shot about half the coke onto his shirt. Luckily, nothing got into my way while I high-tailed it out of the parking lot. It was a stupid thing to do and I’m very lucky that I didn’t get held up in traffic or it would have been ugly for me.
A couple years later I had a going-away party when I was laid off of a job. One of my co-workers said to the whole group that the coke incident was the story that he was going to remember me most for. He thought it was the funniest story ever.

Thanks!
I think in Scotland we’re just not so obsessed with the whole issue of EU membership as they are in England. Of course the NO or ‘Better Together’ campaign and their supporters will tell us that an Independent Scotland in the EU would violate the laws of physics, but we are not idiots or babies, and know that new countries do not get spurned to death by the outside world just for going through a democratic process and daring to exist. We’re really more concerned with making sure we never get another right wing government imposed upon us against our voting wishes ever again. Or if we ever do, it’ll be because we actually voted for it ourselves, which (although undesirable and also pretty unlikely for the forseeable future) would at least be fair.

Who knows?
It means that because we don’t howl for an all out war against “Islam” that we support Islamic terrorists. The meme is that because we believe that atheists, Christians, Jews, Muslims, and people of all other faiths can co-exist we are blindly enabling the terrorists.
They want a holy war but they have no idea what they are asking for, one does not declare unconditional war on 1.6 billion fellow human beings. Who would be our allies? Who else would support our “Christianist” based insanity?
We would of course bankrupt ourselves completely while turning practically the entire world against us. We would lose, but don’t bother them with the facts, the “America, fuck yeah!” crowd doesn’t deal in those. :(

Converse has a feature where you can build a totally customized set of Chuck Taylors. I just did a fully flag themed pair. 75 bucks a pop. Great way to kill some time.

Sort of a non-responsive aside: I think we’re approaching a heat-limited plateau on laptop performance. It’s hard to imagine current designs being able to sustain much greater peak performance without either serious improvements in computing efficiency or by making laptops with much more involved cooling infrastructure.
Point being, whatever you get now I doubt will probably compare unfavorably to near future models.

I’m thinking of getting a cooling pad for some involved graphics applications and gaming at home on my new Macbook Pro. The farmers liked silver because there is much more of it. Still not enough to run a modern economy but enough that it would grow the economy of 1900 far beyond what gold could as was proven by the economics of WWI.

My great uncle was a chemist at the U-West Virginia and was responsible for inventing yellow coloring that could be put into the “oleo” when it was made. Wisconsin wasn’t too happy about him - doubly ironic since he grew up here on the family farm

It’s hearsay on my part, but I have read that there is a direct correlation between how long countries took to pull out of the Great Depression, and how stuck they were on the gold standard.

Glad to see you back. As I’m mulling over what laptop to buy, may I ask for yours’ specs?
It was just an inexpensive one ($250) for backup purposes since my MBP is also unusable right now—a very basic Dell, minimal specs: 15.6-inches, a Celeron dual core processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive, no optical drive, and no cat5 or bluetooth connection (only wi-fi), and no USB 3.0 ports. Oh, and a bunch of software I don’t need or want, so I had to get rid of a bunch of stuff.
That said, it performs okay for doing basic webdev stuff (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc.), but I wouldn’t try to do a complex InDesign layout, process video, render 3D, or run games with intense graphics on it. It beats the hell outta trying to do stuff on an iPad or an ancient ThinkPad though. ;-)

ISIS has done more damage to its standing than our bombs have. The discussion we do not seem to be having, in fact seem to junk every time a beheading has happened, is “Is ISIS as strong as it makes itself out?” And from all appearances, the answer is “No.” They do not have the manpower to control the land they claim as theirs and the only way they seem capable right now of maintaining power is through the threat of violence. So every time we engage in a fever dream about how ISIS is going to attack us and carry out another 9/11, we lose sight of just how pathetic they really are.
