Wet ones in Italian is quelli umidi, which sounds harmless enough, though in Calabrian dialects it’s probably much more molto cattivo.
Pro tip — the next time you’re flirting with a hawt Italian, thrown in molto cattivo, which means very bad or very naughty (a hand gesture can’t hurt, just make one up). Trust me, you’ll be in like Flynn. The entire Italian language is based on flirting, and telling people to go fuck themselves. ;-)

Some people are just born lucky, and the rest of us have to rely on prophecy.
Both my wife’s grandfather and my grandfather ran numbers on the side; her’s in South Philly and mine in Worcester, Mass. This was one of the most popular pamphlets folks used to predict when their ships would come in. Being from a family with it’s fair share of carnies and con artists (and there is difference), I’ve never played the numbers or the lottery. The Ohio GOP war on Libertarians
“The Libertarian Party’s candidate for governor, Charlie Earl, ordered off the ballot by Ohio’s Republican secretary of state, Jon Husted, has mounted a last ditch effort effort to participate in the fall election. He’s filed a new lawsuit. (Republicans apparently believed Earl would attract Tea Party votes, taking them away from Gov. John Kasich).
“According to this Cleveland Plain Dealer report, Ohio GOP chairman Matt Borges denied under oath, in a court hearing, that the Ohio Republican had anything to do with the effort to keep Earl off the ballot.
“Did Borges tell the truth? See this Associated Press article. Here are the first couple of sentences:
“Libertarians in Ohio cried foul Tuesday after learning a Republican consultant and appointee of Gov. John Kasich was responsible for hiring the law firm whose challenge pushed two of their candidates off the statewide ballot.” More

I work at home some days and run virtual meetings. One of my cats will come in while I’m on a call and starts meowing. It would be annoying if it was an actual cat meow, but she sounds like a rusty hinge and isn’t very loud. So I just let her continue on with her meowing until she gets bored.
Every time Mr. w gets on the phone, the other cat (not the one that won’t let me leave) tries to get between Mr. w’s face and the phone. With meows.

Skiing! I went skiing today, it was so fun.
Well, I did stand on line, like, a lot.
It's ski season! Check out this photo gallery from today's opening day @Arapahoe_Basin http://t.co/QZ4G5eWBNC pic.twitter.com/aPmRmmkp6h— Vail Daily (@VailDaily) October 17, 2014
That’s what a nice loud bluetooth speaker is for! Some of the younger folk were really digging on the Captain Beefheart.
I went skiing today. It was a marvelous opportunity to say weird funny shit to strangers and play them some Captain Beefheart on my speaker.— Charlie Vogel (@teleskiguy) October 18, 2014
And…
Oh, and while I was skiing today, I saw something for the first time, a man wearing Google Glass.— Charlie Vogel (@teleskiguy) October 18, 2014
This dude had Red White and Blue K2 skis so I slid up to him and said to him “I am America and so can you! MURKA!” He looked up at me, clearly not amused. That’s when I noticed he was wearing Glass. First time I’ve ever seen the device in person. He didn’t say anything to me, and just skied away. I don’t think that dude was having much fun.
Anyhow, the price was right. I won two free lift tickets last night on Twitter and I was among the first folks to go skiing in North America for the 2014/15 winter.
.@Freeskier Thanks for the tickets today! Other than almost getting taken out by a snowboarder and that stupid snowball fight, I had fun!— Charlie Vogel (@teleskiguy) October 17, 2014

While the fear mongers beat the fear about ebola, reality is people die in this country every day from contagious diseases.
Locally:
More than 400 San Diego State students get antibiotics after one dies of meningitis
Free antibiotics have been given out to more than 400 San Diego State University students potentially exposed to bacterial meningitis from a campus sorority member who died of the disease early on Friday, campus and public health officials said.
Sara Stelzer, an 18-year-old freshman, was admitted to a San Diego hospital earlier in the week with a high fever and other symptoms and died on Friday morning, according to the university’s student affairs vice president, Eric Rivera.
[…]
Note that the transmission methods are similar:
The bacteria can be spread through direct contact with a sick person’s saliva or mucus by way of sharing utensils, kissing or exposure to their throat and nasal secretions.
Although transmission is more likely in close quarters with an infected person, meningococcal meningitis cannot be contracted merely by breathing the air where an ill person has been, public health officials say. The time between exposure and onset of symptoms ranges from two to 10 days.
With our investments in modern medicine, contagious diseases can be battled and eventually controlled. It just takes committment
Many people in this country die from meningitis. But where is CCJ and his ilk outing their names and calling for travel bans?
Oh, that’s right, meningitis doesn’t allow for hating on Africa…

Baylor patient that Dim Jim was so sure about turned out to be another false alarm…
Late Friday - Presbyterian released information saying that the patient in question was considered low risk and eventually released.
“Thursday evening, a patient reporting Ebola symptoms was transferred from Baylor University Medical Center to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. The patient was placed in isolation at Texas Health Dallas and evaluated with all appropriate precautions. The patient was determined to be low risk and wanted to leave the hospital. The CDC and Texas Department of State Health Services were advised of this and did not feel it was necessary to have her detained.”

Since the murder happened, since the grand jury was convened by McCullough, since McCoullough’s “strategy” was revealed to be not his usual when conducting a grand jury, I and many other have been saying the Wilson will not be charged with any darn thing. I and we were told, we needed to give the grand jury a chance, that we were just being too sensitive and making too much of all the “breaking news” that was happening over this.
Read that article, and what it says to me is that the US and Ferguson should prepare for dark days, cause Darren Wilson will not be charged and the shhh will truly hit the fan then.

I got my ballot yesterday, haven’t even opened it yet.
One thing is for sure, for the first time in my life I’m voting a straight Democratic Party ticket, from Senator all the way down to dog catcher. I can’t in good conscience vote Republican, which is too bad because I actually like the Republican candidate for Sheriff in my county. He came to my house - actively engaging the community - and we talked for about 10 minutes. Last question I had for him was his party affiliation, he told me Republican, I told him I can’t vote for him. I could tell he was disappointed, I could also tell that he was subtly trying to hide his party affiliation. We shook hands and he told me “I hope you change your mind.”
No. I’m not changing my mind.
He’ll win anyways, I live in Red State country.

Myth-conceptions: How myths about the brain are hampering teaching
Seven of the neuromyths presented to teachers in the UK, Holland, Turkey, Greece and China were:
We mostly only use 10 per cent of our brain
Individuals learn better when they receive information in their preferred learning style (for example, visual, auditory or kinaesthetic)
Short bouts of co‑ordination exercises can improve integration of left and right hemispheric brain function
Differences in hemispheric dominance (left brain or right brain) can help to explain individual differences amongst learners
Children are less attentive after sugary drinks and snacks
Drinking less than 6 to 8 glasses of water a day can cause the brain to shrink
Learning problems associated with developmental differences in brain function cannot be remediated by education

“I was called the house n**** for the office. It was in reference to an event that we had that I was too uppity for my position; that I didn’t deserve it. That I was only there because I was black and that was my position, to be the house n**** in Padgett’s arsenal of employees,” Keith said.
Keith says she was shocked at what happened next.
