Another Clown Gets in the Car: Rand Paul Announces

Shaping up to be the looniest GOP ticket ever
Politics • Views: 22,135

To absolutely no one’s surprise, Rand Paul announced today that he’ll be the latest right wing loon to pitch his dunce’s cap into the ring. He’s going to “Take America Back” from some unnamed entity that has apparently stolen it.

And of course, God is on his side.

Pitching himself as a different kind of Republican, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Tuesday officially announced he’d seek the GOP nomination for president.

“Join me as together we seek a new vision for America,” he continued. “Today, I announce with God’s help, with the help of liberty lovers everywhere, that I am putting myself forward as a candidate for president of the United States of America.”

Is that for the general election, or just sitting on two slots in the GOP primary? I thought the KY Dems got in the way of playing both roles in the general.

Rand must be appealing to “Liberty Lovers” who want to stop gays from marrying and interfere with women’s reproductive choices. Thankfully, he has zero chances of winning anything since I doubt he’ll get past the Republican primaries.

Why do the hard work of educating yourself when you can set up a wingnut group to give you a fake certification, then spend your life grifting the right-wing nitwits? It’s easier and pays better than honest work.

Rand is trying to get the KY GOP to change the rules so he can be nominated via caucus instead of primary ballot, thus skirting the Kentucky Constitution that forbids anyone’s name appearing twice on a ballot.

The AAPS was founded in 1944 and both Rand and Ron have been longtime members. And it isn’t recognized as a legit organization the entire time of its existence.

And the AAPS has repeatedly shilled BS conspiracy theories and junk science, on everything from Enterovirus D68 to Ebola to vaccinations. Its “medical journal” is not recognized as legit by PUBMED or other accredited outfits.

This isn’t some legitimate medical society; it’s a crackpot outfit - run by crackpots, for crackpots, and to give an aura of legitimacy to positions that are dubious at best and actively harmful at worst.

I’m somewhat saddened to say I think Bush v. Clinton II is a rather foregone conclusion. Unfortunately I really don’t care for either of those two (though I’d probably hold my nose and vote). I predict a sharp downturn in voter turnout should that end up being the general.

I’m kind of hoping one of the GOP Dark horses manages to upset Bush and get the nomination, that would at least make for a more entertaining General.

This is why I don’t really agree that Jeb is guaranteed to win the nomination. He’s not an also-ran from last year, nor did he start this election with a healthy lead because of being the party’s favorite. Hell, right now he’s still fighting off Scott Walker to be the establishment candidate.

Despite what a lot of folks may think, this is a wide open field and anything can happen. We shouldn’t count out the loonies just because the establishment hates them, because the Kochs and Sheldon Adelson love them.

Police: Utility records sought in poisoning of family of 8

wtop.com

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) — A divorced kitchen worker and his seven children were accidentally poisoned by carbon monoxide from the generator they were using to keep warm after their electricity was cut off, police said Tuesday.

“Princess Anne Police Chief Scott Keller said the Delmarva Power company has been subpoenaed to document exactly when it cut off power to the home.

“Maryland law bars utilities from terminating electric service for nonpayment of bills from Nov. 1 through March 31 without an affidavit filed to the Public Service Commission.” More

The thing about this is. It’s “Christians” wanting to choose and pick their customers. The more proper analogy would be if a Muslim or Jewish butcher turned down someone they knew to enjoy eating pork not someone asking for pork. The gay couples are asking for the same damn cake with the same damn ingredients as straight couples. By the way these people are also terrible business people for being affront about the fact that they discriminate against people too.

This was truly tragic.

Especially because it’s common knowledge that running a generator indoors is a reliable suicide technique, not a way to heat your home, as is documented in any generator manual.

Modern cars don’t produce a lot of CO, so it’s hard to kill yourself in the garage these days, but a generator in the home will do the job every time.

If you don’t provide a product to anyone, that is not discrimination.

If you provide a product to some but not others based on your personal beliefs, that is discrimination.

This concept is apparently very, very hard.

I wish one of the people who is whining about how it is just Christians being persecuted would explain to me* why it is okay for the government to disallow religious beliefs as a basis for discrimination based on skin color or religion but when it comes to gay people they should have every right.

* Except not really, because my tolerance for derp today is non-existent.

I always thought Maher is a libertarian, not a “liberal” anyway.

“Progressives are also concerned about the growing popularity of Maher’s perspective among liberals. Last week Cenk Uygur, speaking on his popular left-wing show The Young Turks, railed against what he called the “Sam Harris, Bill Maher” wing of progressivism for their anti-Islam views. He compared Islamophobia to McCarthyism, or the anti-communist paranoia of the 1950s, explaining that while he shares Maher’s distaste for religion (Uygur, like Maher, is a proud atheist), he cannot abide mistreatment of Muslims in the name of liberalism.

“They think that they’re liberals, this whole Sam Harris, Bill Maher wing,” Uygur said. “You want to call yourself a liberal? You don’t know what a (expletive) liberal is. You want to call yourself a progressive? You’re not remotely progressive … You’re a foaming at the mouth neoconservative, and, yes, you’re discriminating against [Muslims].”

“The Left’s criticism of Maher isn’t limited to his disparagement of Islam, as his fellow progressives have long accused him of of being insensitive, racist, and ultimately self-defeating as a liberal. In 2010, he drew fire for joking that President Barack Obama was not acting like a “real” black president, wishing aloud that he would “[show up] in a meeting with the BP CEOs, you know, where he lifts up his shirt so you can see the gun in his pants.” He then assumed a stage voice, presumably in mimicry of a black man, and shouted “‘We’ve got a motherf***ing problem here?’ Shoot somebody in the foot.” Similarly, Maher was also widely criticized last summer for what many called a sexist tweet about slapping a woman, and infuriated women’s rights advocates in 2011 for calling Sarah Palin a “dumb twat” on his show.”

“…Paul, like so many of his Republican colleagues, has turned out to be the worst sort of big-government man.

While libertarians and many progressives believe in decentralizing power and making sure that the most authority is rested in the hands of the most people, Paul wants the federal government to dictate policies and procedures to Americans—even when that undermines the ability of those Americans to spend tax dollars as they choose.

The senator made this abundantly clear several years ago when he blocked action on the District of Columbia Budget Autonomy Act, a power-to-the-people measure designed to give the voters of Washington, DC, and their elected representatives more authority over the spending of locally raised tax dollars.”

re: #138 Nyet

Actually, just found this:

That the Black Book may have been something of a labour of love is also reflected in its content by the breadth of genres represented. These range from pieces of religious verse to praise poetry to story poetry.

An example of the latter is the earliest poem concerning the adventures of the legendary Arthur, which sees the famed hero seeking entrance to an unidentified court and expounding the virtues of his men in order to gain admittance.

Other heroes are praised and lamented in a lengthy text known as Englynion y Beddau, the Stanzas of the Graves, in which a narrator presents geographic lore by claiming to know the burial places of upwards of eighty warriors. Arthur makes an appearance here as well, but only insofar as to say that he cannot be found: anoeth bid bet y arthur, ‘the grave of Arthur is a wonder’.

Other famous figures also appear throughout, including Myrddin, perhaps more familiarly known by the English ‘Merlin’. There are two prophetic poems attributed to him during his ‘wild man’ phase located in the middle of the manuscript, but additionally the very first poem of the book is presented as a dialogue between him and the celebrated Welsh poet Taliesin.

I know and understand many do not think Rand Paul stands a snowball’s-chance-in-hell winning the GOP candidacy and a general election.

I wish I could feel that assured. I do not.

There are way too many nut jobs, Tea Party members, Religious Fundies, glibertarians, libertarians and people that do not understand politics in this country to be sure about anything political.

And as I type Alex Wagner has Matt Kibbe on and he is crowing that Rand Paul will end up being the sane one when the smoke clears from the primaries and will bring the party back to GOP pre-9/11.

Months back Chris Tweety Matthews was all about Rand Paul being a man to watch. I should think Matthews should know better.

This is what I mean.

I sure hope everyone is correct. I wish I could feel Rand Paul was never going to have a chance.
