Video: President Obama Criticizes Huckabee and Other Republicans for Their Increasingly Offensive Rhetoric

“These are leaders in the Republican Party”
Politics • Views: 64,126

YouTube

Speaking today in Ethiopia at a press conference with prime minister Hailemariam Desalegn, President Obama had some words to say about Mike Huckabee’s grotesquely offensive statement that the deal with Iran will “take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven.”

Obama commented:

“The particular comments of Mr. Huckabee are, I think, part of just a general pattern we’ve seen that is, would be considered ridiculous if it weren’t so sad. We’ve had a sitting senator call John Kerry ‘Pontius Pilate.’ We’ve had a sitting senator, who also happens to be running for president, suggest that I’m the leading state sponsor of terrorism. These are leaders in the Republican Party.”

(The video above is set to begin at this section.)

And as well he should call these in-duh-viduals out. The rest of the world looks to us as a stabilizing force, and the GOP short bus/clown car merger doesn’t sit well with the Eurozone and APAC.

Cruz has already put the shiv to his own campaign with his calling McConnell a liar.

Man who confessed to protect son to be released from prison

A judge Monday vacated the sentence for a man who had falsely taken the blame for his son in a fatal hit-and-run crash.

Juan G. Silva, 45, of Milwaukee, was ordered released from incarceration in the same courtroom where — in May 2014 — he was sentenced to five years in prison.

Silva Sr. lied during his confession, plea and sentencing following the September 2013 crash. He wanted to protect his son, Juan G. Silva Jr., now 22, from jail time. Silva Sr. turned himself in to police the day after the crash and carried his story all the way through until police uncovered that he did not actually drive the car that night.

Last month, a co-worker of Claudia Sanchez, the senior Silva’s wife, told a police officer that Sanchez had said her husband was behind bars for a crime he did not commit to keep their son out of prison.

Police officers interviewed Sanchez and eventually got the full story from her. Silva Jr. then confessed. On Thursday, the younger Silva was charged with three felony accounts, including hit-and-run resulting in death.

No need for EPA eyes on pollution, Scott Walker tells newspaper

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker wants to all but eliminate the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and place each state in sole charge of controlling air and water pollution within its borders if he is elected president, he told a conservative newspaper.

“I’m all for a sustainable environment, but you have to balance it with a sustainable economy, and I think in our state we’ve shown you can do that hand-in-hand,” Walker told the Washington Examiner in an article published Monday. “I think states can do it all across America much better than the federal government.”

Reaction was swift from critics of Walker’s environmental record who said without the EPA there would be a “race to the bottom” among politicians in states competing for business investment and no safeguards in one state against pollution flowing through the air or water to another state.

And you have people like Michael Savage who literally want a fascist dictator in the form of Donald Trump, and maybe 50 years of it to ‘fix’ everything that’s been done since 1993.

I know, of course, that Michael Savage is extreme even for the TPGOP, but for cripes sake, he has a show, and an audience. He’s not sitting in the rubber room in a straitjacket.

State budget lowers property tax bill $1 this year, $2 next year

Property taxes on a median-valued Wisconsin home are set to drop $1 this upcoming winter, and another $2 next year, the state’s nonpartisan budget agency reported Monday.

For a median-valued home of $154,268, property taxes are estimated at $2,830 in 2015-16. The home value is expected to increase to $159,205 in 2016-17, but property taxes would still decline to $2,828.

That’s a slightly smaller cut than the $7 and $3 in Gov. Scott Walker’s original 2015-17 budget proposal, according to the Legislative Fiscal Bureau.

I had a very small farm worth slightly less than that I had to sell 20 years ago because the taxes on it were easily twice that (and I had a Homestead Exemption).
Liking my Kentucky farm that is four times larger with a $600 annual tax bill a whole lot more.

Report finds 46% of area roads in poor condition

Forty-six percent of major roads in the Milwaukee urban area are in poor condition and are costing local motorists $753 a year in additional maintenance and fuel, according to a report by a transportation research group.

That percentage is the 13th worst among the nation’s urban areas with populations greater than 500,000. Additional costs to motorists in the Milwaukee urban area are the 21st worst in the country, according to the report by Washington-based The Road Information Program, or TRIP.

“Poor road conditions in Wisconsin’s cities and villages harm economic development, cost residents money on vehicle repairs and contribute to neighborhood blight that makes communities less attractive,” said Jerry Deschane, executive director of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities.

That’s not a realistic view. If the property goes up by 3.2% and the taxes are proportional then the tax should also go up 3.2% instead of going down, so the savings is more like $92.56

Still not a big deal, but I’m a bit pedantic about misleading stats.

Jesus Christ.

Michael Cohen, special counsel at The Trump Organization, defended his boss, saying, “You’re talking about the front-runner for the GOP, presidential candidate, as well as private individual who never raped anybody. And, of course, understand that by the very definition, you can’t rape your spouse.”

“It is true,” Cohen added. “You cannot rape your spouse. And there’s very clear case law.”

Umm … that clear case law doesn’t say what that creepy guy thinks it says.

In some states, courts have struck down the marital exemption as unconstitutional. In the 1984 New York Court of Appeals case of People v. Liberta, judge Sol Wachtler stated that “a marriage license should not be viewed as a license for a husband to forcibly rape his wife with impunity. A married woman has the same right to control her own body as does an unmarried woman”.[5]

What Ivana describes by the way is definitely rape, violent, abusive and moreover punitive in intent. Whether she recognized it as criminal is totally irrelevant, she used the correct terminology. If that’s what happened, and I absolutely do believe her, then Donald Trump is a rapist.

I’m not going to go so far as to say I believe her outright, but the accusations are serious enough to be investigated and reported.

From my reading of the article, neither he nor his lawyer denied that the incident happened. Instead, the lawyer tried the incredibly lame, and really stupid tactic of claiming it’s not illegal. I don’t think he really served his client very well, there.

I don’t think I’d like to be him, facing The Wrath Of Combover if and when this blows up.

I now have a small lake in my back yard.

Hot dry days that harden the soil followed by 2” downpour.

Time to strip & dance in the rain.

Oops, not a good idea. Now we have hail.

What I Didn’t Learn in School Today:

Denis Lawson, who played Wedge Antilles in the original three Star Wars movies, and stars in one of my favorite British detective shows, “New Tricks,” is the uncle of Ewan McGregor who played… well, the less said about that the better.

His lawyer passed up on the opportunity to say Ivana was lying about the specific acts committed, and instead chose “you can’t rape your spouse” as Trump’s official defense to the accusation.

“It’s not the word that you’re trying to make it into,” Cohen told The Daily Beast, saying Ivana Trump was talking about how “she felt raped emotionally…She was not referring to it [as] a criminal matter, and not in its literal sense, though there’s many literal senses to the word.”

It speaks volumes that he’s not denying her version of events, he’s just attempting to quibble over the characterization of the assault as rape, and as a crime.

Trump’s campaign just entered the dumpster fire phase, the only question is how long it burns.

The GOP base will just love him all the more for getting away with rape. That will show the stupid bitch!
