Fox News Cancels GOP Debate in Salt Lake City After Trump and Kasich Bail Out

Meltdown
Politics • Views: 48,898

The slow-motion train wreck of the Republican presidential campaign is now beginning to accelerate as the Trumpenstein takes control of the locomotive.

Fox News executive vice president Michael Clemente confirmed the cancellation in a statement, saying after Ohio Gov. John Kasich said he wouldn’t attend the event without Trump, “there needs to be more than one participant.”

“Ted Cruz has expressed a willingness to debate Trump or Kasich – or both,” Clemente said in a statement provided to TPM. “But obviously, there needs to be more than one participant. So the Salt Lake City debate is cancelled.”

Yes, obviously.

It would suck for ratings if Cruz debated himself.

They would let Trump debate himself, though.

Too bad Rubio’s out. He could debate himself and still lose.

Why not? He gets his foreign policy advise from himself so debating himself should be a snap. Either way he wins.

This is the state of the GOP. Trump owns them. And now they’re forced to not only try and thwart their voters will by subverting their own primary process to keep Trump from the inevitable nomination, but they’re claiming that public will is why Obama shouldn’t get to nominate for the Supreme Court in the final year of his term.

There’s just so much crazy.

It really is irritating to see “party uber alles” being deployed to support a party that is such an abominable shit stain.

The defense conservatives are mostly a bunch of chicken hawks. The fiscal conservatives are mostly a bunch of deficit peacocks. And the social conservatives want to undo the enlightenment. All of these policy positions are total garbage, and the GOP gets its support by stoking resentment in its base, which is also total garbage as a political strategy.
