I’m pretty sure Jacob Collier is some kind of alien being, because I can’t believe any normal human can be this insanely talented. This is the first single from his upcoming debut album, and man is it ever a stunner. Go ahead, Jacob.

Overjoyed to share this song with you – the first single from my debut album, ‘In My Room’, which is out July 1st 2016. Written, arranged, recorded, produced and performed by me, Jacob, in my music room at home.

Damn. That’s why I can’t play any instrument (or sing for that matter). That damn kid got like a dozen+ peoples allocation of talent. I’m sure that mine just got misdirected, sat on a shelf for about 20 30 40+ years, and then ended up getting delivered to him.

Yea, that’s it. Now give me my share of the royalities.

Seriously, that’s just freaking incredible. I can’t even imagine how someone can do that.

“…When it comes to comments left on most YouTube videos, there’s a tendency towards the puerile, inane or insane. Yet few self-produced videos get messages like; “The most talented kid on earth today,” from Grammy-winning singer-songwriter k.d. lang, or “blown away” from guitar icon Steve Vai. But these are attributed to the extraordinary work of Jacob Collier, a 19-year-old Londoner currently studying jazz piano at the Royal Academy of Music who has clocked over a million views since he began uploading his own distinctive self-produced videos just two years ago.”
….
“The seeds for his adventurously wideangle harmonies were sown through formative experiences performing both Britten’s ‘The Turn Of The Screw’ and Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’ in Spain, Italy and London when still a school boy”

Seriously amazing song and video.

I can explain him. In Naruto, one of the abilities a ninja can learn is shadow cloning. It makes fully realized copies of the original, which are linked to the ninja. When they learn something, and are released as entities, the original learns what the clone learned. This is the only explanation for how the videos and how he learned so many instruments.

So, here’s the explanation for this tweet:

The Clark County, Nevada convention was today, and:

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders won more delegates than former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in an upset at the Clark County Democratic Convention today, after Sanders lost the Nevada caucuses a little more than a month ago.

Almost 600 more people showed up to support the Vermont senator than did those to support former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Of the almost 9,000 delegates elected on caucus day in February, 3,825 showed up to the convention at Cashman Center today.

An additional 915 alternates and 604 unelected alternates also showed up to the convention.

The final vote count, after two 10-minute realignment periods, was 2,964 for Sanders and 2,386 for Clinton. Each will now send a number of delegates proportional with those totals to the state convention, for a total of 2,911 delegates from Clark County.

Upgrading to Windows 10 (from 7) took forever. Yes, there were periods where it would sit there for hours. I did it overnight.

It seems pretty stable, and runs OK. But there are a few annoyances.

It will force you to patch fairly often - you either have to schedule the patch and reboot, or Windows will simply reboot itself to install the patch - regardless of what you are working on. You definitely want to keep an eye on that. There is a way to disable it, but I forget how, and it’s complicated.

The notifications are another annoyance - stuff like “You’re not running the latest version of Office!”. Also the start menu search includes web searches (from Bing! I’m assuming.)

It’s a good movie, and it totally subverts a number of Disney’s own tropes, like finding true love. It’s worth seeing once. I happen to agree with one critics assessment that it’s Disney’s best animated movie since the Lion King.

Edit: Actually, my only criticism of the movie is that it could have been 30 minutes longer. There were pieces of the story that really could have been fleshed out more.

Spoiler about Frozen:

The younger sister, Anna, gets injured and the only way to cure it is an act of true love. So she runs around thinking she’s got to get a kiss from the prince she met at the beginning, but ends up being cured because she steps in and prevents the prince from killing her sister by blocking the sword strike. Really inverts the typical Disney line, even as recently as Twisted.

It’s just one county out of 17. It looks like Hillary lost 4 delegates in Clark County and Bernie picked up 4. That’s not much. A lot of the counties went to Bernie, but since they are rural, they don’t have as many delegates.

I need to take some time traveling and camping in the Great Basin. GB National Park is on my list.

The desolation of the central part of Nevada intrigues me so. I hear it’s like the surface of the moon with a few snow-capped mountains in between, that sounds absolutely gorgeous to me.

Sorry dude, just my reaction to truly dangerous fanatics on the right and the propensity to argue among themselves on the left despite the right. Been voting that office since ‘80 and this one is such an embarrassing aberration my mind reels. Sometimes in the past we could brag to foreign friends or family about the quality of our guys and even if grudgingly admitting the credentials of those on the other side. Now? Change the subject

Great Basin National Park is one of the gems of Nevada. It’s remote enough that there aren’t a lot of visitors. Wonderful camping there. I love the fact that there are so many places to go in Nevada where you won’t see a single person, and since most of it is BLM land, there are lots of spots to get away from it all.

Zion! All those canyons! Snow-capped mountains!

I think Utah is the greatest state in the Union when it comes to geography and topography. I would be living in SLC *right now*, but…

Utah is a case study of the importance of separation of church and state in our country. Thank dog for SLC - who elected their first openly gay mayor last year - for providing some semblance of balance between the religious and the secular.

But, yeah! Utah is so freaking beautiful.

I’m just starting to plan our June trip to eastern Washington. We have 10-12 days and there is just so freaking much to see and with that short amount of time, there’s so much we just can’t include. Sigh. Steens Mountain (Oregon,) the Walla Wallas, the Channeled Scablands (main focus of the trip) the Columbia Gorge. And all the stuff we’ll just have to drive past.
Next year I’m hoping to get back to Great Basin. There are just too many things to see here in the West, to say nothing of the country as a whole.

One of my friends is a Bernie fan. He just posted this on Facebook about Sanders’ recent speech in the Bronx.

This speech is beautiful, simple and so important.
19,000 people came together in the South Bronx to hear it.
Especially the part about how change happens. What undergirds the Democratic race is a fundamental difference between the two candidates. One believes that change happens because smart elites cut deals in private and the obstacle to this elite deal-making are loud, indecorous, non-elite social movements. The other knows that change happens because social movements grow so large, so loud, so powerful, so undisputed in their occupation of the moral high ground that elites, in private, begin pretending that those movements’ demands were their idea all along.

I couldn’t roll my eyes hard enough.

I lived in Utah for seven years in the 1990s. It is a gorgeous place. Where else can you live where you can be in the middle of a salt desert if you drive one hour west of Salt Lake City, or in the middle of snowcapped mountains if you drive one hour east? That said, the church plays an entirely outsized role in the state’s politics. Because the church disapproves of marijuana, there can be no discussion of medical marijuana. A loophole in the hate crimes law can’t be fixed because it might stop the church from being able to berate GLBT persons. And then there are the assumptions people make, particularly in Provo-Orem, that you’re an active member of the church. It can be annoying.

When someone in another state doesn’t get why separation of church and state is good, I suggest they need to be airdropped into Provo for a year to learn.

I know I keep mentioning meeting up with fellow Democrats. You said things were slow because the primary is over, but there have to be Dem clubs and orgs.

When I moved down here, it was extremely lonely—and, because all of my work is out of state, there weren’t very many opportunities to interact with other people. Other than my next-door neighbor, I pretty much knew nobody until I hooked up with fellow Democrats. Went to some meetings and got involved. They were really welcoming (particularly here, where Dems are a rare, endangered species) and it was really easy to get involved. And trust me, they are really excited when young people show up!

(Stanley Sea can attest to how much fun hanging with Dems down here can be!)

I had the best time. Of course Beach Dem was everything you’d expect. Cool. Nice. PLU (an old one, “people like us”) But yes, the group of Democrats in SC were the best. If I lived there, they I have no doubt, would be my greatest friends. Miss you BD.

Same here—miss you. Wish we’d had more time to hang. Keep getting California jobs, but they’re not “go there” jobs, just setting up meetings. You never know, though. Unfortunately, my next road trip is to Westchester, NY—3.5 weeks in beautiful Yonkers. Sigh.

But I really do think “the kid” should channel his political interest into meeting like-minded folks. Dems, for all of our faults, are a pretty welcoming bunch, and there truly is diversity in the gatherings.

Do these people really believe this stuff?

In the occult, or secret world of abortion nothing is as it appears. In a LifeSiteNews article, we read the interview of a woman whose mother worked in an abortion clinic and who has firsthand knowledge of the clinic’s inner workings. According to this insider, the clinic was “pervaded with occult imagery and practices.” The article continued by stating that “the workers considered ‘abortion to be a form of sacrifice,’ would perform the procedure as a sort of ritual, and worshipped deities embodying death.”

Looking at the links provided I cannot help but feel worried about the people who are all in on this way of thinking.

192
Billy Batts  Apr 3, 2016 • 6:19:56am

In every election cycle in my life, I’ve heard that “This is the most important election of our lifetime!” and when I’d hear that I’d just roll my eyes. I’m not rolling my eyes anymore. The GOP can not win the White House. At the top of my list is the Supreme Court; nothing else matters to me in November. If that makes me a single-issue voter, so be it.

.

Whether the mere facts are correct or not is of course irrelevant: it reflects a Higher Truth, namely that abortion is Satanic.

So, I wake up to 55 MPH winds and the news that Trump wants to hold a rally on Long Island on Wednesday at Grumman Studios in Bethpage.

The biggest studio in the facility (the one he wants to use) is just shy of 40,000 square feet - good-sized, but not a huge venue. My guess is he wants to pack out a small room to look good for the TV cameras.

I don’t know what to expect in terms of demonstrations or protests. But judging by some of the mooks I run into on LI, he might be playing to a house that loves him.

An Amtrak train struck a backhoe that was left on the tracks south of Philadelphia Sunday, and fatalities were reported.

The train struck the piece of equipment around 8 a.m. this morning in Chester, Pa. and caused the train’s engine to derail.

Two people were reportedly killed, and others were being treated for injuries.

The train had left New York City early Sunday morning and was bound for Savannah, Ga., carrying 341 passengers and 7 crew members, according to a statement from Amtrak.

They really are full of themselves, aren’t they, with their higher moral ground crap. Again, I ask, why didn’t Bernie, the paragon of all that is good, run in 2000 or 2004 or 2008 or challenge Obama in 2012, as he suggested someone should do?All of these issues were going on then? Why did he wait until now to lead the so-called revolution?

Because he thought he could compete with Hillary by portraying her as flawed and totally establishment as compared to running against Obama himself and getting his ass kicked.

That goes a real long way towards explaining his campaign of:

1. Elect me President
2. ?????
3. FREEDOM!!!!

At times, he really does seem to take that attitude of “Don’t ask questions how I’ll work with Congress while flipping off both parties, just trust me.”

Because if he’s counting on our astute, educated electorate to back him up, he’s in for a rude awakening.

Oh hai, Chuck. I see you are targeting John Podhoretz and Shane Smith now.

I think losing his Facebook access has driven Chuck into paying attention to his blog.

Short versions:
Podhoretz once called Chuck a “mentally ill monster,” and some other names in 2014 (!), so Chuck is still upset. Podhoretz also supports Michelle Fields, and you know how Chuck feels about her. He says some nasty shit about Podhoretz, even about his first marriage falling apart.

Shane Smith of Vice Media has also reported negatively on Chuck, so he’s on Chuck’s shit list. Now that Vice is apparently suffering a loss of web traffic (I have not confirmed this), Chuck is crowing that he predicted its demise in 2013.

Every single article he’s published these last two weeks have contained some kind of vindictive, evil remark about at least one person — a conservative, no less. Life must not be going so well for the Rage Furby.

Try Pale Moon. It’s Firefox stripped down and its glorious. Firefox is too bloated and slow these days.

I tried Pale Moon and it was eating just as much memory as Firefox was. I finally went with Chrome since I could disable Flash easier there and that made things marginally manageable. Knocking out Flash in Firefox was a pain since it would constantly restart Flash processes anyways - which would then eat memory and refuse to give it back.

(also seeing the never-ending loading in Chrome today with this page. Message in bottom left alternating between “Waiting for littlegreenfootballs.com…” and “Waiting for vast.bp#######.btrll.com. or just “Connecting…” ####### is a 7-digit string.)

It’s on the down slope of the hill behind the Art Museum (assuming the front is facing City Hall.) There are a few sculpture gardens back there near the dam on the river along with the Azalea Garden.

The statues are of Revolutionary War heroes interspersed with cherry trees. The one garden behind it (on top of the underground parking garage) is more modern pieces and includes the giant electrical plug.

Net connection varies since it’s Comcast and I’m in the middle of a city. But this is the only site that I get this intermittent “always loading” behavior on. And it might not happen when I move up to the next page. But once it’s doing it on a particular page I have never seen it stop, though re-loading the page sometimes stops it - thus my belief that it has to do with what ads the page is trying to load. Which sometimes includes one of those never-ending repeat video ads.

I’m starting g to really hate the idea that is independent. I prefer the idea that he is simply selfish.

26 voting on the basis of what is best for himself. Never had to compromise for the sake of a shared party vision for America. Never had to work with others to get a workable policy, just this is what I want and I’ll vote for whatever will do me the most good in Vermont.

So easy to vote when you are in an uncontested seat. Never having to pay for making a decision that your smallish pool of voters wouldn’t like, for the greater good.

Guns kill more people than “terrorists”, but continually vote for the NRA. Way to make a difference there Bernie. Could easily stand up and say sorry Vermont, gun control is better for the people, but not won’t go there. Selfish.

Seriously, this rumpled out socialist professor , on the side of the people is really starting to look an act every bit as false as Trump.

Like or or loathe her Hillary has actually done the grunt work, trying to get stuff passed. Name your cliche… Putting her head above the parapet, in the trenches, at the chalk face. So what if she hasn’t won every thing. At least she tried. And she has spent the last 40 years taking lumps for trying.

Her reward now? So called democrats reusing tired old republican attacks. Some reward

I believe Bernie saw the small field and thought of this as his big chance to win it all. Just found out the other day that Bernie managed to win his Senate seat in one of the most underhanded ways possible, namely running for the Dem nomination and then declaring after he’d won it that he didn’t want it and would be running as an independent. In other words, he decapitated the only possible competition and then left Democrats in Vermont with no choice but to support him or stay home. That’s the kind of man running this year, the kind that is not above dirty tricks to advance his “revolution.”

Nah, he’s one worse than a Tea Partier. Nah, Bernie’s not a Democrat, never really has been. He’s a political opportunist, something he admitted to a couple weeks ago when he told us that he’s basically just running in the Dem primaries because it’s getting him media attention and donations. Well, the “revolution” (small “r”) might well be the Democratic Party tightening down who can run and possibly getting rid of some caucuses. Especially if the recent shenanigans in Nevada actually carry all the way to the National Convention. (I presume that there will be some further contention regarding how those get allocated. Or Hillary simply won’t care once she gets a sufficient majority.)

All right, Chuck says Vice Media is tanking, because its web traffic fell 17% in one month. But after reading the same Variety article as he cites, I can’t jump to the same conclusion. While Vice. com’s traffic might be down, Vice Media seems to be doing quite well overall.

CNN’s report likewise does not suggest Vice is tanking.

And I note that Chuck has misconstrued a remark by Shane Smith to mean exactly the opposite of Smith’s intent.

Here’s the quote in context from a report in the Hollywood Reporter:

Media expert Michael Wolff once suggested in a Hollywood Reporter column that the latter simply are “drawn to his Pied Piper ability to attract ever-more media executives and the ever-larger multiples they and their colleagues seem willing to pay for a piece of Vice.” Smith seems to delight in the skepticism that both his voracious dealmaking and his personal antics — the free-flowing booze, the $300,000 Vegas dinners and the liberal use of profanity (“f—” was uttered 52 times in this interview) — evoke, but he shoots down Wolff’s premise, unable to contain a chuckle: “You think I could hoodwink Bob Iger, Jeff Bewkes and Rupert Murdoch?”

Smith is clearly being sarcastic: “Do you really think I could hoodwink them?”

But Chuck construes that remark (contained in a tweet by someone else) to suggest Smith was making a statement about how he could trick those moguls.

Everything Smith had told about his past is a lie — including war time correspondent status — but he’s still managed to con Rupert Murdoch and Bob Iger into investing in Vice Media. Well done, Shane, but the truth catches up to every con man.

Vice’s Shane Smith Asks, “You Think I Could Hoodwink Bob Iger, Jeff Bewkes and Rupert Murdoch?” t.co

— THR TV News (@THRtv) February 3, 2016

Since he links to tweets and not the original articles, I suspect Chuckles is taking a big shortcut and using the tweets as evidence, rather than, you know, taking the time to read the articles referred to in the tweets.

He hates Shane Smith, so even if he read the articles, I guess he’d reach the same conclusions.

I used to have a Firefox plugin that allowed me to control which sites loaded when I opened a webpage. For example, when I load LGF, it links to Facebook, Twitter, Google and YouTube as the page loads. On my old computer and using FF, the page would just hang indefinitely, because China blocks all those services. The plugin, whose name I’ve forgotten, allowed me to “turn off” linking to those sites, and the page would load a lot more quickly.

Now, I don’t have that problem. New computer, Opera, and a faster network connection means I seldom have slow page loads like before.

I’m still using an old HP laptop running Win7. Probably a few Java versions behind as well. Problem with the current run of bloatware is that things reached the point on this machine that I have trouble running more than one piece of software (browser, Itunes, etc) at a time since they all want more than one-third of the memory. And given the machine I would be better off getting a new box than adding more memory.

Maybe I will just do that post-taxes. And just keep this one for handling photos, game work, etc. where I don’t need much net access.

I agree, except open primaries are a spectacularly bad idea. All they lead to is Republican ratfucking.

The first time I registered to vote, my Geology teacher registered everybody in class who wanted to. I expected to have to register as a Democrat or Republican, but no, he said Washington was the only state with open primaries like that. (He may have been wrong, but he was a State Rep, so….)

People finally got tired of the Republican ratfucking (we didn’t call it that in those days) and put in a closed primary. This led to so much bitching and moaning about “not letting people vote for who they want—wah, wah, mommy, they’re mean to me!!!” that we made the mistake of going back to open primaries: In fact worse than open—first two go on to the General.

I cannot wrap my brain around the thinking of these people who think anybody should be able to vote in a party primary. You’re choosing who you want to represent your party. It’s none of the random public’s goddamn business. By the same reasoning, the public should get to vote on Boeing’s CEO.

One other thing I’ve learned is to avoid loading up browsers with plugins. I run Opera with only two, AdBlock Plus, and unfortunately *%$*()*#! Flash. My Firefox installation on my old computer had at least four plugins, and it would routinely gobble up RAM if I kept it running while I did other things.

BHOs are another pain in the ass. Often you’ll load some freeware, and it will load some kind of Browser Helper Object if you don’t specifically say “NO!” Then those BHOs bog down the browser with their glitchy code.

Morning LGF!

I’ve mentioned before our local NBC station has a local politics show on every Sunday right before Meet The Press. Today there was talk about Trump and his problems with how he handled the questions from Chris Matthews on abortion.

Good ol’ Johnny Kasich was asked about it and he basically said that it was a stupid statement and showed Trump wasn’t ready for the big job. And then he said that it put women in an awkward situation and they shouldn’t have to worry about that…or some such bullshit. I didn’t hear it too well as I was making a late breakfast and my blood was just coming to a boil.

I tried to see if I could find video of it, but I don’t think they post video until a few days after the show.

Think about that. Johnny was worried about women being inconvenienced by Trump’s words about being punished.

How about being totally inconvenienced by sneaky politicians like you that change Ohio’s abortion laws on a weekend on in the middle of a Friday night. How about the fact women may be looking at politicians like you making abortion totally illegal.

I guess Johnny needs a lesson as to what punishment means. No access to abortion is draconian punishment.

In Kasich world he knows he can’t come out and say it like Trump did. That is what really worries Kasich. Trumps big mouth takes the cover away from snakes like Kasich.

Grrrrrr…and then there was the bit on the show with stiff Rob Portman and why America needs to vote for a new president and then we can all talk about Supreme Court nominations. I hope that idiot gets dumped big time. Dude is a total nothing.

From where I’m sitting, a long primary season in particular and a long election season in general does more to turn people off to politics than it does to force them to make a choice. You can only spend so many weeks tuning into the nightly news only to hear about the latest shitstorm debate, campaign rally, or interview before you just want to leave your TV off until after November. I still remember that storm. I was watching a lot of it blow up through Columbus at around the same time. Later that week I was at a friend’s house in Bellville, Ohio, just south of Mansfield. They lived on a big hill. His father was out walking around their property and he found a big stack of papers. He looked at them, and they must have all been in a file cabinet or something from a house/business in Xenia. They were all clumped together having traveled some 90+ miles all in one clump during the storm.

Cool. Thanks. Sounds like it’s near the Waterworks. For whatever reason, I have not biked in that area, even though I usually end my rides at the front of the museum.

Damn. Did you happen to have a link to some of that info?

That’s a really snake-like move on his part. I guess what we are seeing now is not unique to his character.

A competent host would have immediately pivoted to this line of thought, which most likely would have ignited the temper that I keep hearing Kasich has, and caused him never to come back to the show

Of course, now that I’ve done even more research, I find that Counterpunch reported about the ‘06 election all the way back in July of last year. And he didn’t backstab them so much as make a seriously undemocratic agreement: He’d show up on state party’s primary ballot, but if he won he wouldn’t accept the party’s nomination. And any Democrat who chose to run against him in the election itself would get absolutely no financial help from the national party.

Cool. Thanks. Sounds like it’s near the Waterworks. For whatever reason, I have not biked in that area, even though I usually end my rides at the front of the museum.

The trail does a dip under a bridge right at the museum and then goes along with the Waterworks on the left and a rock outcrop on the right*. As you come clear of the outcrop and even with the dam on your left the place with the cherry trees and statues is immediately on your right. The trail then curves around a fountain and parking area** before going down Boathouse Row.

* - There are a few paths up the rock outcrop and the two pavilions with a nice view on the top of the outcrop.

** - Beyond that parking area is the Azalea Garden. Which is generally a good place to look at flowers since they have a selection of plants that usually has something blooming most of the year.

There’s also a little side trail along the river right before you up the hill to the Art Museum. That’s where I have been seeing turtles and taking my pictures of the local “weeds” blooming for a DailyKos diary. There’s steps at the end, so it’s not very bicycle friendly.

Most of my trail walks go up into that area. Alternates are going the other way down to the dog park and South Street, or crossing the Spring Garden St bridge and going up to the far side of the dam. (That’s the better side for afternoon photography.)

Compulsory voting here. But I am envious of the US’ primary system. I could register as a Labor member and vote in preselection ballots, but that is only on a federal seat level in a parliamentary system. It’s not the same. Head of state is still the Governor General, proxy of HRH Queen Elizabeth II, appointed by the Prime Minister, whose leadership is decided within the party caucus and whose own authority is determined by a majority of federal seats.
I’m a Republican, naturally.

yep

About an hour after the Brandenburg tornado, the same supercell spawned an F4 tornado that formed in the southwest part of Jefferson County near Kosmosdale. Another funnel cloud formed over Standiford Field Airport, touched down at The Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center, and destroyed the majority of the horse barns at the center and part of Freedom Hall (a multipurpose arena) before it crossed Interstate 65, scattering several vehicles on that busy expressway. The tornado continued its 22-mile (35 km) journey northeast where it demolished most of Audubon Elementary School and affected the neighborhoods of Audubon, Cherokee Triangle, Cherokee-Seneca, Crescent Hill, Indian Hills, Northfield, Rolling Fields, and Tyler Park. Numerous homes were destroyed in residential areas, including a few that were leveled. The tornado ended near the junction of Interstates 264 and 71 after killing three people, injuring 207 people, destroying over 900 homes, and damaging thousands of others. Cherokee Park, a historic 409-acre (1.66 km2) municipal park located at Eastern Parkway and Cherokee Road, had thousands of mature trees destroyed. A massive re-planting effort was undertaken by the community in the aftermath of the tornado.[5][33]

Dick Gilbert, a helicopter traffic reporter for radio station WHAS-AM, followed the tornado through portions of its track including when it heavily damaged the Louisville Water Company’s Crescent Hill pumping station, and gave vivid descriptions of the damage as seen from the air.[34] A WHAS-TV cameraman also filmed the tornado when it passed just east of the Central Business District of Louisville.[34]

WHAS-AM broke away from its regular programming shortly before the tornado struck Louisville and was on-air live with John Burke, the chief meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Louisville office at Standiford Field when the tornado first descended. The station remained on the air delivering weather bulletins and storm-related information until well into the early morning hours of April 4. As electrical power had been knocked out to a substantial portion of the city, the radio station became a clearinghouse for vital information and contact with emergency workers, not only in Louisville but across the state of Kentucky due to its 50,000-watt clear-channel signal and the fact that storms had knocked numerous broadcasting stations in smaller communities, such as Frankfort, off the air. Then-Governor Wendell Ford commended the station’s personnel for their service to the community in the time of crisis, and Dick Gilbert later received a special commendation from then-President Richard Nixon for his tracking of the tornado from his helicopter.[35]

And I have had people tell me— and we talk honestly to each other, we don’t lie to each other very often. You don’t survive if you do. As chairman of a committee, I’d be lobbying for votes. I have had members say to me, Mr. Chairman, I love you. Barney, you’re right. But I can’t do that politically because I’ll get killed in my district. No one has ever said to me, I’m sorry, but I got a big contributor I can’t offend.”

Oh boy.

When Black Voters Exited Left
What African Americans lost by aligning with the Democratic Party

While the passage of the Civil Rights Act helped Johnson earn support from 94 percent of black voters in 1964, there is a gulf between what black Americans hoped the legislation would achieve and what Democratic politicians actually delivered. Although the Civil Rights Act of 1964 helped end apartheid conditions in the South, a critical objective for which grassroots black Southern activists fought and died, the legislation did little to address the structures of racism that shaped black lives in cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia. This was an intentional consequence of how the bill’s sponsors, largely liberals from the North, Midwest, and West, crafted the legislation.

Liberals didn’t really want to help black folk. At least he didn’t come out and say Democrats are the real racists.

Dr Lizardo  Apr 3, 2016 • 12:30:10pm

It’ll be interesting to see if this blows up big.

Over a year ago, an anonymous source contacted the Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) and submitted encrypted internal documents from Mossack Fonseca, a Panamanian law firm that sells anonymous offshore companies around the world. These shell firms enable their owners to cover up their business dealings, no matter how shady.

In the months that followed, the number of documents continued to grow far beyond the original leak. Ultimately, SZ acquired about 2.6 terabytes of data, making the leak the biggest that journalists had ever worked with. The source wanted neither financial compensation nor anything else in return, apart from a few security measures.

The data provides rare insights into a world that can only exist in the shadows. It proves how a global industry led by major banks, legal firms, and asset management companies secretly manages the estates of the world’s rich and famous: from politicians, Fifa officials, fraudsters and drug smugglers, to celebrities and professional athletes.

panamapapers.sueddeutsche.de note: autoplay embedded at link.

Apparently, the PM of Iceland is being investigated as a result of this leak. Named politicians include:

Mauricio Macri, president or Argentina.

Bidzina Ivanishvill. ex PM of Georgia

Sigmundur Davío Gunnlaugsson, PM of Iceland.

Ayad H. Allawi, ex PM of Iraq.

Ali Abu-Ragheb, ex PM of Jordan.

Hamad Jasim J.M. Al-Thani, ex PM of Qatar.

Sheik Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar.

HRH Prince Salman, King of Saudi Arabia

Ahmad Al-Nirghani, ex-president of Sudan

Sultan Al-Nahyan, president of the UAE.

Pavlo Lazarenko, ex-PM of Ukraine.

Petro Poroshenko, president of Ukraine.

Gonna get interesting, methinks.

Good point, I was thinking “mostly” as in the system Charles put in by way of the up/down ding system leaves it mostly to us. But certainly on the foundation he put in. While, IMO, Bernie himself has been taking increasingly more flack here as of late (and deservedly so), the main reason that the BernieBros get a lot of shit from a lot of Lizards is the more strident BBs have shown themselves to be little different than the hard-core Trumpiots and other RWNJ “true believers”.

While most of us here may have differing opinions on Bernie and can (typically) have civil discussions, the “true believer” BBs don’t do nuance (or reality) well, if at all.
