Yay hooliganism!

The imaging infrared view looks like a game of Syndicate Wars. Creepy.

And it’s kind of funny how cool the horse’s tails are compared to their bodies.

Correct me if I am wrong but is this the same area that in the past has protested against police abuse and shootings against minorities? So the kids are angry at the police already, now they are angry also at Trump, and what better way to show your anger than burning things? That will change everything one burned out police car at a time… and totally not play into the right wing calling you animals.

I’m not surprised they are pissed off, and even violent, it just plays into what the other side wants. “See? minorities and libs are the REAL fascists!”

There’s a point at which you do what you need to do, regardless of what the other side is going to think, and then deal with the consequences.

I can’t really judge someone else for hitting that point.

Well no American text book is going to admit the Japanese were going to surrender any way and the bomb was dropped to flex muscle and scare Stalin. I’m sure he meant millions instead of billions, even though that study was just bs claiming the Japanese on the mainland were still willing to fight to the death. They just wanted to surrender with the Emperor as leader and that is what they got anyway even after the 2 bombs.

I’m speaking in terms of moderates and those on the fence about supporting the left in the Nov, elections this will not get anything but negative views of civil rights movements and immigration reform. I already know a lot of older 50+ year olds that have voted for Democrats for decades that hold bigoted views about Hispanics and blacks sadly. and BLM and other protests that turn to stupid violence for no reason are not helping in my opinion.

It’s not about what the right says, it’s about how well it can sell what it says to the center. They’re always going to call these protestors animals, but when there’s video of them jumping up and down on police cars it’s an easier sell.

Socially conservative in one sense. They have a strong sense of family and community. But that also entails good schools as well as strong community and local institutions, the kind the GOP are happy to see run into the ground over tax cuts.

Seriously, when you put it in simple terms like this, it really isn’t difficult to comprehend.

* The people who support the modern GOP are detached from reality.
* The people who support the modern GOP are in favour of a candidate that is detached from reality.

Although it’s difficult to make useful conclusions from this observation, it does at least show the lack of merit in trying to appeal to Republican voters using logical arguments.

And I think the DT camp wants to keep the discussion fixated on such irrelevant issues because, quite simply, he is entirely unqualified for the office he is campaigning for: neither his (nonexistent) record of public service nor his character or background indicates anything otherwise.

This is one of the most egregious pieces I have seen to date:

A liberal case for Donald Trump: The lesser of two evils is not at all clear in 2016

Look, I don’t like Hillary very much, and would gladly vote for any other candidate if there were one I found more experienced or better qualified…but this piece is just full of frothing political immaturity.

Makes no mention of the SCOTUS, which is the key argument right there.

Meaning nothing has changed. Criticism has already been equated with Gestapo tactics: Telling someone they are wrong is the same as shutting them up. Because the right wing/Bernie-bro (and Jane Sanders) convergence is defined and depends entirely on anti-Hillary BS. Both share the same traits, and both are willing to completely ignore facts and reality in pursuit of nonsensical ravings from lunatics who have been saying indictments are forthcoming any day now.

There were no criminal acts by Hillary re: Benghazi. The email kerfuffle is just that - a kerfuffle, but no laws were broken. You can’t go back and read criminality into emails containing sensitive information because they later became classified due to the information contained in them. And if it’s a crime that Hillary had a private server that might be hacked by foreign entities (but for which there’s no evidence that actually happened), where are the indictments against every frickin’ company that’s been hacked by outsiders with releases of private information including credit card, SSN and other valuable data that goes to creating new identities or any number of white collar crimes?

There will be no “taking America back” in time and “making it great again” because he’s selling people a bill of goods about time traveling back to when American minorities (and women) knew & accepted their place under the foot of white men. That ship has sailed—the clock cannot be turned back nor the future stopped.

To answer your question, yes, I think riots would go nationwide. Not only riots started by his opponents, but also by his fearful, gibbering supporters when they finally wake up and become enraged, realizing they’ve been had.

I don’t think he’ll win the presidency though. I believe most Americans are sane and more grounded in reality than his supporters, and they understand full well that a Trump presidency would rip the nation apart.

You can essentially design the forms completely in the VB end. But Access to a large degree is meant for quick design work, and not necessarily by skilled IT personnel. So the form tools and wizards allow for some quick and dirty work to represent and work with your data structures.

While, of course, allowing you to develop more complex stuff if you need to. Though the compromises made can be pretty annoying.

Jim DeMint opens his trap…. Whoops.

Jim DeMint, the former South Carolina senator and Tea Party firebrand who is now the president of the Heritage Foundation, became the latest in a string of conservatives to admit that restrictive voting laws such as voter ID requirements are an attempt to help Republicans win elections, telling a St. Louis radio host yesterday that voter ID laws help elect “more conservative candidates.”

Talk radio host Jamie Allman asked DeMint about Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s move to restore the voting rights of people in the state who had served time for felonies, a draconian restriction that disproportionately affected African-Americans by design. DeMint responded that McAuliffe’s action was “awfully suspicious” and tied it to what he claimed was a Democratic plan to get votes from “illegals” and through “voter fraud.”

“Well, it’s awfully suspicious coming into a big election in a state where it’s actually pretty close,” he said. “I mean, states can decide who votes, but the governor themselves without legislative action, that seems over the top to me. I haven’t seen an complete analysis here, but the left is trying to draw votes from illegals, from voter fraud, a lot of different things, so this kind of fits right in to trying to find another group that they can basically count on to vote their way.”

“So it’s really a bigger issue,” he added, “and that’s why the left fights voter ID or any kind of picture ID to know that it is actually a registered voter who’s voting. And so it’s something we’re working on all over the country, because in the states where they do have voter ID laws you’ve seen, actually, elections begin to change towards more conservative candidates.”

Dear Mr. William Lovett:
I am the attorney at the Quaker Oats Company responsible for trademark matters. As you probably know, our company manufactures numerous food products, the most famous of which is oatmeal. In addition to having used the Quaker Oats name as our company name for close to 100 years, we have registered the Quaker name as a trademark.
It was therefore quite a surprise to discover that you are operating a business under the name “Quaker Oats Christmas Tree Farm.” Your use of our trademark is likely to mislead consumers into believing that your business is associated with the Quaker Oats Company. It is also likely to weaken our very strong trademark. In light of the foregoing, we hereby demand that you immediately stop all use of the “Quaker Oats” name…. While we would like to settle this matter amicably, we will take all steps which are necessary and appropriate to protect our name.
Sincerely
Janet L. Silverberg, counsel

Dear Janet Silverberg:
My breakfast this morning—rolled oats by the way—was interrupted by the arrival of your letter via FedEx, which was delivered to us despite the fact that you have misspelled our company name which is Quaker OAKS Christmas Tree Farm. Our farm was so named because religious services were held outdoors on this farm under a great oak tree until about ten years ago when we were able to move into our new Meetinghouse on another corner of our farm.
Our business is 100% owned and operated by Quakers. I suspect that your firm employs considerably fewer, if any, Quakers. We trace our Quaker ancestors back 320 years and they were mostly farmers, but I don’t know how many of them grew oats for your company. My guess is that you may be selling far more Lutheran oats, Methodist oats, or maybe atheist oats. Could your company be guilty of product source misrepresentation?
We don’t know why you choose to associate your commercial products with our faith, but we supposed you feel there is some marketing value from it. If you were selling machine guns, roulette wheels or some other product offensive to our Quaker faith, we would be upset by the association, but since we find your products wholesome and enjoyable, we consider your use of our name a compliment. We invite you to visit our farm to verify that we are indeed Quaker Oaks Christmas Tree Farm. If you come in December, we’d be happy to sell you a tree!
Sincerely,
William Lovett,
Visalia, California

Nope. Wrong alliance. It’s the Loki-Chitauri alliance. That worked so famously that it resulted in carnage, death, and destruction, and neither side got what they wanted.

Or anybody with no “skin in the game” voting—i.e. nobody who doesn’t pay Federal income tax.

I think 95% of Trump voters would be surprised to learn they don’t want them to vote.

On a side note, it’s amazing how many people think they pay Federal income tax when they clearly don’t. Is it some kind of Faux Noise-induced mass hallucination?

Kentucky was a border state, and not so rabidly pro-slavery as the CSA states. IIRC, Jefferson County, where Louisville is, was leaning toward abolition, since it was right across the river from Indiana, a free state.

Of course, nowadays that means nothing. There’s probably more neo-confederates in the state legislature now than there were confederates in 1860.

So I just spent the last 30 minutes or so crawling into the world of a dandelion seed head with my macro lens. it was amazing. There’s so much of our world we miss out on… the mathematical precision with which the plumed seeds are arranged is mind boggling—it looks like a geodesic dome created by nature, but it’s built differently.

I never paid any mind to why dandelions look like they do when they go to seed, but after my little photo session I got curious and found out that the flower is actually a multitude of tiny florets, each one having its own stigma at the top and growing a seed at the bottom. It’s fascinatingly complex.

A Close-up View of the Wildflower Dandelion

The scientific name for the dandelion is Taraxacum officinale and it is a member of the Compositae family. Strangely, the bloom is not a single flower! It is actually a composite of many individual flowers, called florets. (Each petal then, is a single flower!) These florets are held above the ground by a tubular upright stem that can be up to 45 cm in length. The bloom, florets and stem can be seen in the images below. […]

It’s just amazing what you can see when you stop and really look at things. Sure sometimes you don’t see anything new, but other times you see the arrangement of those seeds (which has interesting mathematical connections) Other times you’ll see interesting insect behavior, or where a bird is nesting. Lucky you. I’ve been fascinated by macro photography and looking at things closer since I got my first digital point-n-shoot with macro capabilities.

The funny thing is that after I realized how much trouble the dandelion goes to to reproduce, I felt guilty for picking it and made sure to take it to the window and blow the seeds into the wind. I feel better now. ;)

I picked a snail off a bike a guy brought in. I set it on the counter, and when it came out and started to move, he said he’d take it back to where the bike had been parked. That was nice.

I still don’t feel bad about killing the black widow spider, though. The owner of the stroller it crawled out of said he likes rattlesnakes better, because at least they give you some warning.

A science teacher friend of mine would do the same thing indoors with a burning candle, and tell his classes to write down every little detail they saw. Then he would point out to the class that part of scientific research is careful and patient observation.

And now excuse me while I inspect the inside of my eyelids for the next several hours. I’ll report my findings later on.

If I still lived in Arizona, I would own a pistol loaded with snake shot (small shotgun shells, basically). Especially this time of year, rattlesnakes are dangerous, just awakening from hibernation, they are hungry and aggressive.

That was a big part of the lesson: be still, be quiet, observe, learn. Another was the demonstration that there is a vast world of life and activity that is not human-centric and is right in front of our faces. We don’t need nature documentaries on teevee to see it, just have to look.

Heh, it prolly would’ve taken that poor snail days if not weeks to get back to wherever he started out. I have no qualms about killing poisonous things or vermin, except house mice, which tend to be small & cute (except for their droppings, ugh). Luckily, cats seem impervious to rodent cuteness.

My gut feeling is that Sanders is going to be quietly informed that he will face a serious primary challenge in 2018 and will announce his retirement as a ‘D’ from the Senate.

But he does not seem to be good at sunsets.

Why?

I toss every Republican out, because they think everything involves force. And that the world owes us.

As for Sanders, I think he’s weak on foreign policies, and I think his view that everything has an economic solution would cloud how he responds to problems.

Clinton, to me, understands how complex the world is. I think her solutions will reflect that. I’ve seen people talk about her being hawkish, but I think they miss that 1) we just know more about her because she’s actually had to give her view as SoS, and 2) I don’t think she’s any more hawkish than her boss who invaded a country (Pakistan) on evidence that was considered no more than a 50/50 shot to get bin Laden.

Nope. The re-election paperwork for his Senate seat can’t be submitted in Vermont until some time in 2018 (between April and August IIRC). The FEC has a 2016 financial report submission for a re-election committee which has Senator Sanders listed as an Independent but there’s no details on who is behind that committee and whether Sanders is actually part of the effort. It might also be an automatic listing from previous election committee submissions assuming his 2012 re-election committee had leftover funds but it’s difficult to tell.

One of my first assignments in most of my classes was to take the class outside on a pretty day and have each of them pick a tree, any tree, on campus and sit down with pen and notebook to write down everything they saw. It was an almost transformative experience for many of them. The most common comment I got afterwards was “Wow! I had no idea!”

There is a real nice area in Ohio called Hocking Hills. What is cool about it is there are many gorges running through the park and actually hidden around the entire area. As art students we used to hike in one off the park called Sheikh’s Gorge. It was probably 2-3 miles long and it had many area similar to the image below.

You could spend hours just looking at a small area on one of the moss cover rocks. It was like a little tiny world onto itself. Mosses can be fascinating with their textures and little tiny flower-like plants poking out. Same with the trees at the bottom of the shady and damp areas.

I hate to say it…but he is going to require some very heavy protection all the way through the elections.

That is if he makes it to the election.

I have a friend that is fairly convinced that he will not. His thinking is the GOP so hates the idea of Trump being the candidate that they could setup someone they ‘hire’ to knock him off somehow under the cover of the fact he is so hated they could blame just about any group for it and get away with it.

Of course I do not like that kind of thinking, but if you stop and think of how all this sets up…nothing would surprise me.
