Donald Trump’s First General Election TV Ad Is, of Course, Horrible

With yet another connection to white nationalists
Politics • Views: 44,081

YouTube

Here’s the ad just released today by Donald Trump, predictably brimming with fear-mongering xenophobia and barely veiled racism. It’s an attack on Hillary Clinton that relentlessly demonizes immigrants, of course, and as Right Wing Watch points out, one of the citations it uses is sourced to the Center for Immigration Studies, an anti-immigrant “think tank” founded by notorious white nationalist John Tanton.

This is released the day after Trump gave a canned speech (read laboriously from a teleprompter) that many pundits hailed as the “pivot” they’ve been expecting. There will be no “pivot,” folks. This horrible ad is what Trump is all about.

Humble people don’t need a nickname, they live it. My grandfather was humble, his father was a banker but he was willing to listen to working class people and have empathy for African Americans.

Trump is in flooded Louisiana right now for a photo op…and Rod Dreher has been having a screaming meltdown since Obama has not shown up to complicate things and distract the Governor (making sure that emergency aid got there promptly and declaring much of the state a federal disaster area immediately is not good enough and proves to Rod that Obama is a golf playing dilettante who hates him and Baby Jesus)

Obviously, Obama also needs to show up in San Bernardino County (since 80,000 people have been evacuated for the Blue Cut Fire) and impede first responders there also.

I don’t believe that for a second. If the president wanted to come, he could come. Everybody knows that. Louisiana just isn’t a priority to him, at least not as much of a priority as the golf greens on Martha’s Vineyard.

Really sick of the Obama/Bush comparisons on LA floodwaters. The big deal about Bush was that his administration’s response was totally incompetent. “Heck of a job Brownie” just made it extremely clear how clueless Bush was.

It wasn’t so much the flyover as it was the people in a major city unable to get water and food…basic sanitation, and first aid. Contrast to Obama FEMA director Craig Fugate, who has been excellent in each and every natural disaster.

There is little an Obama visit can do except to comfort people, but now it has been announced he will go next Tuesday. Trump and the media will say his hand was forced.

With respect to the naked Trump statues, good points were brought up in the earlier thread.

After some thought, I’ve come to the conclusion that they are inappropriate. The issue is not whether or not Trump deserves such mockery (he does). The issue is the splash damage inherent in normalizing the too-common idea that one’s worth or the worth of one’s ideas depends on physical appearance.

I’ve read the artist’s explanation of the statues, and I’m unconvinced. No political point was attempted in those statues. A cartoon equivalent would simply be an ugly drawing of Trump with no attempt made in the cartoon to mock or oppose Trump’s ugly political views. That would be clearly unacceptable as a political cartoon.

It’s an easy mistake to make, and I’ve done it myself here a few times by linking to a nasty piece in The Onion vs. Trump. I won’t do that again.

Speaking of which, and Irish parliamentarian declares:

Noah’s Ark is a ‘fact’ and disproves climate change claim

[…]

Independent Danny Healy-Rae famously dismissed the notion of man-made climate change in a speech in the Dáil in May saying “God above is in charge of the weather” and in an interview with magazine Hot Press yesterday re-iterated his opinion that climate patterns shift through the centuries.

“Everyone is entitled to their view. I’m basing my views on facts,” he said.

“The facts are there and history proves it. We had the Ice Age. We had Noah’s Ark. We had all those stories. We’ve proof of the Famine in 1740, which was caused by two years of incessant rain.”

Exactly. That was the issue. I don’t even recall whether or not Bush visited LA during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. That didn’t matter. Bush failed miserably which resulted in unnecessary deaths and people waiting for weeks to be rescued after that hurricane.

President Obama’s administration has reacted in a competent manner to the various natural disasters that have impacted the U.S. during his tenure.

By the way, President Obama should visit LA to comfort those who are suffering and I’m sure he’ll do so very soon.

re: #99 Patricia Kayden

The big deal about Bush was that his administration’s response was totally incompetent.

It was part and parcel of the Bush Admin’s Conservative belief that Government is the problem, and can’t do anything right, so why bother putting competent people in important positions, because there actually AREN’T ANY. So they put a guy whose previous executive experience was minimal and totally irrelevant in charge of FEMA, rather than someone with experience in disaster relief management.
