The Week in Trump

The craziest presidential campaign in US history
Politics • Views: 50,168

It’s been an amazing week for Donald Trump.

His former campaign manager is being investigated for taking money from Russian sources to attack Ukrainian independence.

Disgraced sexual harasser Roger Ailes is now advising him.

The head of his “veteran’s outreach” program says Hillary Clinton should be executed for treason.

He fires his top campaign staff and hires the head of racist hate site Breitbart News as his new top dog.

His lawyer goes on CNN and says “Says who?”

A top foreign policy adviser is exposed as an antisemitic Holocaust denier.

To top it off, his new campaign manager says she’s white and was “very moved” by his pathetic talking down to African Americans.

A freaking amazing week for Donald Trump.

And then the media tells us he’s getting “more presidential.”

UPDATE at 8/21/16 7:42:50 pm by Charles Johnson

Oh yes, I almost forgot — he went to the flooded areas of Louisiana and handed out Play-Doh. Very seriously.

There are plenty of tinhorn dictators who style themselves “president”, so I suppose “acting more presidential” is simply a matter of your reference point

(Also, apparently this is my 3000th comment after years of lurking)

Final Fantasy XV was delayed again for 2 months, to November 29th.

Apparently, they saw quite a number of bugs, and instead of doing the First Day Patch thing, which has gotten people cranky with a lot of games, they decided to iron them out, then realease, so there will not be a need for an immediate first day patch.

Though, honestly, they should do some sort of Beta release. If you have a bunch of people playing the game, you will find the bugs quicker, especially as you encourage them to report them.

I got home around lunch time today thus officially ending my two week vacation in Canada. It was a fantastic trip. I had the honor of officiating my brothers wedding, spending my birthday with my family for the first time in years and enjoying one hell of a night seeing my beloved Tragically Hip for the last time.

Here are some of the many photos I took. First, from Wakefield, Quebec, about 40 minutes north of where I was born…

And then some from the beautiful Algonquin Park in central Ontario.

Just a small sample of the amazing art in the gallery
More pretty art
Inukshuk in the gift shop

And then there’s this from St. Jacobs, a largely Mennonite community in southwestern Ontario. I give you the church which is now, of all things, a toy store (there’s gotta be a joke in there somewhere).

I got some great photos from the show too but it will take me awhile to edit those.

It’s 9:40 PM and I’m trying to rewrite my resume for the three legal assistant jobs in Savannah that I have open in tabs… Don’t know if it’s writer’s block or what but I’m having a hard time. I’m pulling down random Wumpscut songs from online to reset my brain. I’ve snacked, I’ve watched the Moto3 race from Brno today, I’ve done laundry, but even after distractions I can’t seem to get into a groove. I need to get this done because I’m likely unemployed in three weeks (contract ending, my whole team will probably be shit-canned) and I need something to crack loose out east so I can move.

I think I may pour myself a drink and try again. Johnny Walker Black is sometimes a thinkin’ fluid. ;)

Apparently “useless alt-right shit troll” is enough of a profession that it gets you European travel while decent people with actual skills have to scrape. WTF?

The Human Elevator Fart that is CCJ is living proof that there is no just god, as far as I’m concerned.

Someday there will be a reckoning where all these internet-based shitapes crash and burn. Power grid failure, meteor, disease apotheosis, SOMETHING… These fucking kids have literally no skills. That can’t feed a person for life. It just can’t.

Maybe I’m clinging to a dead way of life, but in the old days, back in the 20th Century, capitalism demanded that people have marketable value. I fail to understand how shitting on the floor of the world has value. Maybe I’m getting old.

Suggestion: Write everything possible that might apply, and don’t worry about getting it right the first time. Just put anything down. After you’ve written everything down, then go back and clean it up and remove irrelevant information. It’s a bit like Spongebob drawing a circle: First draw the face, and then remove all of the unnecessary lines to get to the circle.

I don’t have cable, so I’m watching AMC on SlingTV. It had been very glitchy, but on my new TV using the Amazon Firestick it didn’t freeze up once during “Fear the Walking Dead.” Maybe its finally becoming a serious alternative to cable for getting a lot of live cable network TV.

Holy CENSORED! I feel like I have to decontaminate myself after the last call I received from a GOP polling group.

They brought up Huma Abedin alleging that she worked at “her mother’s radical sharia journal” where she (allegedly) advocated 9/11.

They didn’t stop there, they brought up Anthony and his Weener.

Then they went further saying that they are going to run ads where “witnesses saw Hillary and Abedin engaged in lesbian sex”.

And they brought up Bill Clinton and the blue dress, too.

They then asked if I would favor having Jerry Falwell Jr. make a Trump commercial making these charges.

Once again, I lied.

Trump is making this campaign the sleaziest since the Cleveland-Blaine 1884 “Ma, Ma, Where’s My Pa” shtick…

I have to take a shower and I’m going to shut the phone off for the rest of the night to TRY to recover from this!

CuriousLurker  Aug 21, 2016 • 8:15:51pm

So earlier today I started creating a new set of swatches for my recent purchases of watercolor paints that are in stick from like these and these.

Naturally, the feline overlord chose that exact moment to demand attention right now. I tried to push her away and she got very offended (if looks could kill, I’d be dead). Undeterred, she kept tap-tap-tapping me on the back & arm with her paw, then tried to climb into my lap, stepping all over my carefully laid out paper, masking tape & watercolor sticks. *sigh*

So I gave in and petted her a little bit, then moved her out of the way again, carefully placing the current swatch row’s sticks in the top of the plastic container I keep them in. I picked up my brush and…. something furry next to me again. She looks at me very innocently like, “What? I’ma just sit right here out of the way on top of your watercolor sticks and watch, mkay?”

I gave up. She won.

Oh, one other thing I wanted to point out about the Twitter client: I didn’t see any mention that images tweeted would be added to my image library, so I was a little surprised to see them there. You might want to point that out to people so they don’t end up with duplicates they don’t really need and which take up unnecessary space.

Working on art is a cat magnet. My remaining furbeast loves to beg up into my lap and then flatten out on my drawing space when I work. I haven’t worked in a while - busy with trying to steer my life in the proper direction - but if I went over to my desk and turned the light on and started working right now, in about three minutes she’d be pawing my thigh and asking for a lift up to occupy my workspace. It never fails.

Pawn of the Oppressor  Aug 21, 2016 • 8:45:03pm

Language fact: “Woodchuck” is derived from a Cree word which basically means “brown furry thing”.

Which, if you’ve seen a Woodchuck wandering around, is a perfect description. If even people who’ve lived in the woods for millennia can’t be bothered to name something descriptively, then it doesn’t need a great name in English either.

Scene: Five thousand years ago, in the woods of North America. Two natives have spotted the first ever woodchuck seen by humans.

“Hey, there is an animal over there!”

“What is it? A bear that roars? An eagle that soars with the spirits? Is it Raven who sees us with his knowing eye?”

“No, it’s just… Um… Well it’s the color of the earth and it kind of wobbles around.”

*pause*

“Can we eat it?”

“I don’t think so.”

*the men shrug*

And so, it became known as THAT THING YOU SEE SOMETIMES THAT’S BROWN AND FURRY.

I could swear I’ve seen the option to tweet an LGF comment pop up when I (accidentally) hit a certain combination of keys, but I’ve never noted what it is as it usually happens when in the middle of something else (i.e. I end up closing the little window to move it out of my way)…

Are you thinking of the Ctrl-Y combo? If you highlight text from a comment and then type that keyboard shortcut, you’ll get a pop-up tweet prompt containing the highlighted text.

Ok, I sympathize as I’ve spent more time in this life alone than with someone. At nearly 53 that’s a sad comment.

That said, I’m really tired of you using Pharisee as a word for hypocrite. Yes we Christians started it. We were wrong then and we’re wrong now when we do and even THEN not all of Christianity fell into the mistake: Look to Jesus saying in Matthew 5:20: “For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” The Pharisees may well have had a tendency to rules over day to day reality - yet the simple truth is that THEY are where modern Rabbinical judaism comes from and are as much of God/Allah/Ha-Shem & the book as any of the rest of who claim decent from our ancestor Abraham. The Torah, the Mishnah & the Talmud are as much a part of us as our ancestors even though those of us who follow Abraham as Christians and Muslims do not always realize it.

Stop presuming that some evil perpetuated by my ancestors has any truth.

In the end we all try to follow the divine and we succeed or fail based on our own fallible humanity. Please try to remember that, PLL, my friend.

re: #64 Pawn of the Oppressor

I suppose all languages use loan words to some extent for names of unfamiliar items and geographical features, but English is absolutely unique in using opaque names for just about everything—to the point where we laugh at (translated) Indian names because if you can understand them, they’re not “names”, amirite?

This is why Gene Wolfe’s Soldier of the Mist series is so interesting. In Greek, most names were transparent, and his narrator (whose native language was some early Latin dialect) writes them that way. The Peloponnese = “Redface Island”, Euboea = “Goodcattle Island”, and “Thought” (Athens) and “Rope” (Sparta) defeat the Persians at “Dirt” (Plataea). Wolfe actually learned Ancient Greek to write these novels.

(Sparta = rope is actually a mistake, but it dates back to antiquity)

I do hope that we do not have Ryan Lochte compete with us for any more Summer Olympics. He has disgraced the US on the World Stage, and is a massive prick.

He is 32 years old, this was going to be his last Olympics anyway.

To do lists are strangely soothing.

Until I need to start getting the shit on them done, but the act of writing them out gets it out of my head and onto paper and that helps.

I’m sitting here getting the initial pass on the upcoming week complete. The meal plan is set, exercise schedule is written in, grocery list is ready, I almost feel vaguely ready to deal with Monday.

re: #75 The Very Reverend Battleaxe of Knowledge

So that book goes on my reading list. Nice! Thanks!

I was delighted when I found out the etymology of “Woodchuck” (from wuchak) because the only one I’ve ever seen was lumbering around next to a stream adjacent to the parking lot of a medical center where I drove my mother for an appointment years ago. This was in semi-urban Massachusetts and I’m sitting in the car waiting for mom, and twenty feet away in the woods I see this thing wombling around and I just couldn’t figure out what it was. I grew up in the woods of the north and I had NEVER seen this thing. It wasn’t a beaver, and it wasn’t a raccoon, and it wasn’t a big squirrel.

Long story short, I found out from internet research that the natives had the same reaction I did. “It’s a brown furry thing.” I have been amused by this ever since. :D

I love writing to-do lists. Helps clear up what I need to do.

Acting on to-do lists, not so much. Somewhere on one will be a line “work on last to do list.”

Interesting.

I utterly despise to-do lists. I use them on occasion because there are times when things must be do, but otherwise? They are the most hateful things in my life; twisting what little control I have over my own life to the control of someone else. I’d rather twist in the pain of a dozen devils in hell than spend every day tied to a to-do list.

As they say, your mileage may vary… ;)

As a reminder, Carly Fiorina is organising to become the GOP chair after Reince Preibus leaves:

msn.com

We can hope she is every bit as successful as she was at Lucent and Hewlett-Packard. Please proceed, Mrs. Fiorina.

With all the troubles the GOP seems to be having, it is almost as if all the grifters are coming in to strip whatever assets of the party remain (both voters and real assets).

I go through cycles on whether or not they’re useful. I’m in the middle of a “very useful” cycle right now.

I have been known to put stupid little things on my list to get the satisfaction (and momentum) of having accomplished something to use as a crutch to get more shit done.
